for real the biggest reason I would ever go back to a mechanic is because I lack the tools they are givin to do the work, which doesnt make sense to pay them $75+/HR so they can take 5 horus doing something that take 2.

I hate mechanics too, DONT TRUST THEM!!!! they will take you..

5000
actually the way it works is, they get paid a flat rate. lets say $21.00 an hour. the shop charges a flat labor rate, lets say $95.00 an hr. each job pays a certain amount thats already set in stone. let say you have your alteranator replaced. you are being charged 2.0 hrs labor at $95.00 pr hr. thats $190.00. the technican is only going to get paid 2.0hrs labor no matter how long it takes him to do the job, if it takes him 4 hrs to finish because he's a dumbfuck or he's hungover that day, you only get charged 2.0hrs.
where these guys make their money is by finishing this job in half an hour to an hour...they still get paid 2.0 hrs and move on the the next job.

Tony,
i believe this to have happend.....the wheel bearing took care of your original problem. NO the wheel bearing "kit" does not include a pinion seal nor does it have anything to do with it. what i believe happend next is that after replacing the pinion seal the technician OVER torqued and ruined the bearing.
you have a z28, this is a camaro im assuming?
i spoke with one of the master techs here at work and he was very familiar with this issue occuring on g.m models..if the technician that replaced the seal was not careful he couldve easily overtorqued and now you need to replace the bearing. this should be taken care of at no charge to you
Good lookin' out Escobar man I appreciate the feedback. Yeah it's a Camaro. When I took it back for the 3rd time that's when they replaced the pinion ring gear at no charge (probably because they screwed my original one up). But now I am getting this grinding noise in the back. I only notice it when I am parking my car while in reverse and if I turn it right or left while in reverse.

What I am going to do is go to the dealer and pay to have it diagnosed. I am going to explain to them what happened so they can note that on my paperwork. Once I get that, I'll file a complaint and get the first shop to reimburse me so I can get my Z fixed right.

oh okay, i guess i wasnt reading the post right...could be a fluid issue now, lack of lubrication. but yeah get it diagnosed and find out what is going on then call the shop manager where you got the repairs done. tell him you want to be reimbursed for everything including the diag charge you paid for at the dealer. if he says no contact the Better Business Bureau..
FYI if you need to get to small claims court the customer will never lose! half the time it is not cost effective for the shop to pursue the claim and they will just settle

What are you talking about? You've got 302's out there that are considered muscle. A 305 is a 5.0 engine.... so are you saying Mustang 5.0's aren't muscle cars?

its not the size of the motor, its the design, the 5.0 GM was aTERRIBLE design, the 302 ford, is the best motor ford will ever make.
