Listen, NEVER worry about what something is "meant" for. I use the de-esser in pro tools for something it is NOT intended for. Don't even trip off what it is cause I'm not gonna tell you, but the bottom line is if something captures the feel or sound that you want you should use it. Also, YOUNG MOE uses a 58 runs it into an aphex mic pre amp. Go listen to his music and after you do so get back at me and tell me if dynamics are only meant for live.
No, getting in a good room, using good monitors and having them placed well will allow you to hear the sound better. Like I previously said, the soundcard does not matter because the device is not going through the sound card. Where the sound card WILL matter is when you mix and use plugins (hardware/software latency) or if you choose to clock to another source.

My guess is this is some type of low frequency roll off in the 70 to 100hz area. I have no experience with software pre amps and what you're using, so I'm simply guessing.

got a question for my homie now, he got a real home studio with all the hardware and shit, unlike me, and hes havin some problems with his m audio fast track, he says he plugs it in, and all the headphones and all the volume nobs and everything works, but it wont pick up the mic, any suggestions would be helpfull, thanks again

Put the de-esser on the track. Click on the KEY LISTEN button. Adjust to taste (just move the slider) and thank me later. Thats ONE of the different uses that I've been able to pull off with that plugin alone.
