1: got great quality with my new condensor mic, sounds amazingly clean, problem is it sounds like im too far away from the mic, but im right up on it, and the mic doesnt pick up very well, is there settings i could mess with to stop this atthe source, or is there a way i can edit this problem away with our good friend cool edit pro 2?

2: im thinking it could be the soundcard, but there is a catch, this is a usb microphone, im not very framiliarwith these, and im not quiet sure if the soundcard would effect it do to the fact its recorded through the usb, someone told me about a usb preamp, i might have to go with this, or will the soundcard help?

and heres somthing usefull, my homie has the same mic, and he doesnt have this problem, so im thinking it could be a soundcard, but im not sure, im currently using a crystal fusions gaming soundcard, lol, so get back to me, any help will be much appriciated, and anything i can do in return, lemme know

Since it's a USB mic...it had to come with a driver. So there may be a control panel for the mic to adjust the settings. Or...if there is no "control panel" for the mic, your computer may just see it as a regular mic input. To check that you can go to your windows mixer(if you have windows) Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control(or Windows Mixer) there will be a setting for each of your inputs e.g Mic...Line In....etc. Make sure the mic volume is adjusted properly.

haha, i got it, they got a soft pre on their site, they just dont have it in the right spot so if u dont look close, u miss it, but i got it, shit sounds clean, and whoever was looking down upon this mic, consider this, i used to use a kareoke mic, and someone else bought this for me, plus, im getting really good at makin everything clean in cool edit, so this shouldnt be a problem

^^^^^ first you said......then you said..damn I hope the best for ya.....I thought you was gonna say you had a u-87 or a sonyc800...a telefunken or something...maybe even a tlm103

It's all relative, isn't it?

Maybe he's moving up from a cheapo PC gaming headset w/mic (or something equally cheesy) in whihc case the Samson would probably sound great by comparison.

Most of us, even us with pro training and whatnot cant afford stuff like that. I wish I could afford a couple Neve channel strips etc. Fuck I'm one of the more educated ones on this forum but i still am just a beatmaker with reason, a couple midi controllers and my PC listining through plain old computer speakers LOL I don't even own a mic. All in good time i guess, I got my car payed off. When I have the credit card iced off and my student loan neautralised a little bit I'm gonna try to get my hands on some real gear. Probably write up a proposal for a small business loan. It takes time dedication and sacrifice if your not born with a silver spoon

If the mic is going through the usb port the sound card will not matter. Where the sound card WILL matter is if you're recording signals (like a guitar or keyboard) AND on the output (like if you run it to a dat machine, another daw, a tape machine etc.)

If it were myself I would upgrade the soundcard first. After that I would consider using an inexpensive condenser (like a c1000) or an inexpensive dynamic (shure 58).

dynamic mics are ment for live, thats actually what i upgraded from, but all im doing at my house is making mixtapes for my own pleasure, i got signed to a local label and will be doing the real albums and what not in a studio, i dont need studio quality for a mixtape, this is somewhat close though, but then again, my ears arent very trained, but then again, the consumers ears arent either, so i think i should be good @ 50 cal

@ heresey, thanks, that helps, but hearing the sound better will help me preperly mix it better, so im still gonna get one, i was just curious if it would help the actual mic quality, i kinda knew it wouldnt, but i needed confirmation, and btw, this usb mic is a condensor mic

hmm dynamics such as the ev re-20 and the shure sm-7 are quite widely used and recommended for recording by pros.
some people even prefer to use cheap sm58s cause thats what suits their voice, use what sounds best for your application.
the soundcard wont have any effect on the usb mics signal.
i personally would of just gotten a decent pre for the dynamic and upgraded from there for more versatility.

good luck.

thankyou, but the dynamic mic was like a 15$ kareoke mic, lmao, and this usb mic was 80$, no preamp or phantom power or anything required, i downloaded a software preamp from their site that worked like magic to fix alot of problems, and i love the nice warm sound to this mic, im overall very happy with it, and like i said, i just need it for mixtapes
