i believe it was early '09. depending on where exactly you live and what gas you buy it got to $5 in some cities, but most just got close

Still cheap compared to other western countries. In Germany you pay now more than 2.10 per liter. That's more than 6 bucks a gallon!

I'd like to pay Iranian prices though. They pay like a few cents per gallon. Almost free...
