GABRIEL A SURPRISE CUT IN OAKLAND

The roster moves in advance of Tuesday's deadline for trimming the teams to 75 players included a few surprises.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Raiders have cut veteran receiver Doug Gabriel.

Other cuts occurring throughout the day included Jets receiver Tim Dwight, Jags tight end Jermaine Wiggins, Steelers running back Kevan Barlow, and Redskins receiver Todd Pinkston.

Avoiding the Turk, for now, was Ravens quarterback Troy Smith, the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner who was selected by Baltimore in round five of the draft.

On Saturday, teams must get down to 53 players.

Kiffin must not think of him in high regards. Who cares how fast he is. If he doesnt have any other skill he is useless. If he can't catch or remember his routes. What good is he? The coaches see what they see. That's why he is gettting cut.

They have travis taylor, johnnie lee higgins and mike williams now, this was probably the main reason he was cut. Gabriel is an average wr at best, he had some good games but overall isn't anything special.

i don't think you guys watched the raiders that much then. he was WAY better than whitted.
Gabriel has only had a few good games his whole career..most of them came in pre-season. He's got good physical talent but his work ethic sucks, which is why he was realesed from NE(a team that was weak at WR's also). Whitted hopefully is next in line.

GABRIEL IS WEAK, NEVER MUCH OF A PLAYMAKER AND HE WAS THE 3RD RECIEVER. IF HE HAD ANY KIND OF TALENT I SURE NEVER NOTICED IT.

I always thought Gabriel was a cool receiver. He pretty much did what he was asked to do for whoever he played for. Maybe he didn't have the deep speed New England was looking for. Why he was cut from the Raiders... I don't know.
