I like the album a lot but MAz has always had this really weird trajectory with the consistency of their music. You can usually tell when they sat down and fleshed out the songs/albums and when they just were like "fuck it lets get in the booth and see what happens." It's been like that more or less since day one with them.
I love both forms of the way they go about doing their music for different reasons.

For sure. About 1 in 5 are really fleshed out and you can tell there was some thought put into it. About 1 in 5 are the complete opposite where they just get high/drunk and record stream-of-conciousness type tracks over any beat. And about 3 in 5 are kind of in the middle.

As much as I love The Smiths honestly for his solo work I've always found each album to be really hit and miss. And I by that I mean each album has a handful of really good songs and while there are usually not very many just straight up bad ones there are a good portion of meh songs as well.
Your Arsenal being the exception, that album is great from front to back. Start there and then just wade through everything else.
