The second study had 6123 participants, men and women were combined in the results. They were divided into three categories “lean/overweight/obese”.
When measured by BMI, there were: 924 people (15%) that were “lean”, 1637 (27%) that were “overweight”, 3562 (58%) that were “obese”.
When all the participants were measured with the Bod Pod, 29% of the people in the lean category and 80% of the people in the overweight category were obese by body fat percentage. 26% of the lean group was considered overweight by body fat percentage.
When BF% was measured, there were: 503 people (8.2%) that were “lean”, 523 (8.5%) were “overweight”, and 5097 (83%) were “obese”.
Only 4.8% of the overweight by BMI group were actually “lean” by body fat percentage. 0.2% of the obese by BMI people were actually considered “lean” by body fat percentage and 1% of the obese by BMI people were actually considered “overweight” by body fat percentage.
