I always say "my research is time sensitive, and an interruption will cause the failure of a longitudinal study resulting in the waste of countless of thousands of dollars in government grant money. I would be happy to appear as a juror once the study is complete and will notify the court at that time" they always just tell me nevermind. Or if you're teaching, thats an automatic out, do you teach?
