the market flooded, giving retailers the ability to negotiate cut-throat prices. Moberg, who said he is sitting on 1,500 pounds of marijuana, said some farmers are selling to other producers, as well as retailers, for as low as $2 per gram. To break even, a grow operation can sell for no less than $3-$4 per gram.

TL;DR theres sooooo much weed in washington now that wholesale growers are just sitting on thousands of pounds, but the prices are still extremely high. Retailers are undercutting them then gouging consumers. More outdoor weed is what we need to keep driving down prices

The market is indeed flooded, but you'd get more money back if you turned your flowers into wax than if you sold them for 2 a gram. thats 55 bucks an oz dude, that would barely pay your electricity and water bill. And scaling up doesnt really help in this situation because utilities scale in the wrong direction, and the discount youd be getting on ferts and soils is negligable, plus the increased work means you;re gonna have to hire people that actually know what there doing. I dont know who the newspapers are talking to, but thats not the way its working.

And Washington also capped the annual legal production for retail stores at something absurdly low, and since they track seed to shelf, theres simply no way so introduce weed into that process, wo there aren't warehouses full of weed waiting to be sold at 900 a piece sitting around.
