Gore Wins NFC Offensive Player of the Week
San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore was named NFC Offensive Player of the week by the National Football League for his performance in the 49ers 20-14 victory over the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.
Gore registered his sixth 100-yard game of the season with a CAREER-HIGH and franchise record 212 rushing yards on 24 carries and had four catches for 26 yards in the 49ers 20-14 win against division leader Seattle. Gore’s 212 yards pushed him over 1,000 yards for the season with 1,043 yards rushing. He is the 49ers first 1000-yard rusher since RB Kevan Barlow had 1,024 in 2003.
Gore is on pace to finish the season with 1,669 yards, which would be the highest total in franchise history. Gore had four rushes of over 20 yards against the Seahawks including runs of 51, 50, 23 and 20 yards. Gore is on pace to finish with 10 100-yard games. The 49ers record for 100 yard games in a season is six by Garrison Heart in 1998 and Roger Craig in 1988. The 49ers finished with 262 yards rushing on the day. It is the 8th highest total in team history and the most yards rushing in a game since the team rushed for a franchise record 328 yards vs. Detroit on December 14, 1998.
It is the second time this season that Gore has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week. He was honored following his 134-yard rushing performance in the 49ers 34-20 win over Oakland on October 8. Gore is the first 49ers player to be named Offensive Player of the Week two times in a season since WR Jerry Rice in 1994. It is the first time a 49ers player has been honored two times in the same season since DT Dana Stubblefield had two NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in 1997.
It is third time this season that a 49ers player was recognized as a player of the week. In addition to Gore being named NFC Offensive Player of the Week two times, LB Brandon Moore was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week today by the National Football League for his performance in the 49ers 9-3 victory over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday.
