Sometimes I can kick a nice beat out in an hour or so other times I'll work and quit and continuously go back to it till it works for me.
Exact same here, rarely (if ever) spend less than an hour on a beat. I never make a beat in one sitting, unless my feelings at the time are at an extreme (Real pissed, i'll make a pissed off beat, suicidal, i'll make a depressed beat) I get my main melody and drums down, and make the sounds for the rest of the beat, then come back to it the next day with a fresh mind, and finish it up. Maybe come back again to make sure I'm still feelin it, and tweak it, or delete it.

It takes me forever modifying and selecting drum samples, tweaking my synthesizers, laying out the beat, recording, rearranging, adding another part, setting eq, mixing, etc. Then I don't like it. I put it away for a month and then go back and change it up again and finish it later. I'm very particular about the sound. I probably put in 8 or more hours on most beats, however I've made some in a couple hours. You can peep some beats at www.myspace.com/eatsfromthesea

PS bumpus that cut was well done. >What do you have released?
