Manny Pacquiao may be the biggest draw in boxing right now, but for boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya of the Golden Boy Promotions, Floyd “Money" Mayweather holds all the cards now.
“He can decide who he wants to fight now," said De La Hoya on Mayweather. “He holds all the cards. He can decide when and where."
The head of the Golden Boy Promotions, who promoted the fight between Mayweather and Sugar Shane Mosley, gave his comments during the post game interview.
Mayweather, whose fight with Pacquiao last March was cancelled after both camps failed to come to terms for a random blood testing, announced earlier after his 12-round victory over Mosley that if the People’s Champion won’t undergo blood testing prior to their fight, then the fight won’t happen.
“If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight, he knows where to find me," said Maywetaher during an interview with veteran sports analyst Larry Merchant. “If every athlete is clean in the sport of boxing, take the test. If Manny Pacquaio takes the blood and urine tests, we can fight. If he doesn't, we won't make the fight."
But Pacquiao, in an interview with GMA-7 said that he won’t abide by Mayweather’s condition of an Olympic style of testing.
“He’s bigger than me, so he wants to take advantage of that, that’s why he wants me to take the test during the fight,’ said Pacquiao. “I won’t do the test."
But whom will De La Hoya picks once the fight happens?
“I have to be truthful, Mayweather is on a different level because he’s a student of the game he will dissect you outside the ring and finish you off inside the ring," said the many-time boxing champion De La Hoya. “He knows how to get in your head and beat you mentally and beat you physically. He can wait for you to make mistakes. Pacquiao makes many mistakes and that will fall into Mayweather’s hands easy."
Should the Pacquiao fight won’t happen, Mayweather would most likely move up to the next level – the 160-lbs. division where he has a chance to face World Boxing Council/World Boxing Organization middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.
“That’s a possibility," said Mayweather during an interview with fightnews.com.
