A Filipino website quoted Pacquiao saying he got a call from Floyd just prior to the Oscar fight and said he wants to fight him if he beats Oscar. Now this article. I think Mayweather/Pacquiao should happen sometime mid to late 2009. Pacquiao will probably fight Ricky Hatton first quarter of 2009...

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Plans Return For Manny Pacquiao

SOURCE

By Mark Vester

According to some of the Mayweather family members, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is already planning to return to the ring to challenge Manny Pacquiao. Family members told Mayweather's hometown paper, the Grand Rapids Press, that Floyd Jr. advised some of them of his comeback plan moments after Pacquiao stopped Oscar De La Hoya in eight rounds in Las Vegas last Saturday night.

Janelle Mayweather, Floyd's cousin, said the fighter called her and disclosed his plans to return and and hook back up with his father, Floyd Sr. The two have not worked together since a 2001 dispute. Floyd's uncle Roger has trained him since the dispute. According to Janelle, Floyd wants to use his both his father and uncle for the fight.

"My niece said my son told her he wanted to fight Pacquiao next, and that he wants me to train him for the fight," Mayweather Sr. said to the paper.

Fatimah Mayweather, the Floyd's sister, also told the paper that he brother contacted her and said that he plans to return and plans to use the services of his father.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser, did not return calls to confirm or deny the information, but Mayweather Sr. told the paper that his son called and left a message on Monday.

I read about this ! And it seemed only logical, after Manny did what Floyd couldn't or didn't even attempt to do, which was finish Oscar off.

Then again, this is coming from Floyd Sr. who also said that he knows more than Angelo Dundee and Nacho Beristan combined. LOL

If its true tho, which it very well might be..

I just wonder how much the one year layoff is going to affect Floyd...

He had some difficulties with Chop Chop Corley because of his stance, and the left hand definitely rocked Floyd a few times in the fight...also, Zab Judah gave Floyd some trouble in the first half of their fight, but Zab faded, and that was the difference in the fight.

Consider this was when Floyd was in his absolute prime (though he didn't show many signs of them diminishing after) and active.

Inactivity can be a fighter's worst enemy.

But Floyd is a phenomenal boxer, and this one would be hard to call.

This would be a great fight, and another mega event, that might just eclipse the De La Hoya-Mayweather hype, and for sure the fight.

Floyd is a great counterpuncher and defensive wizard, but its hard to say he's ever fought anyone like Manny who's throwing punches from all angles and constantly pressuring.

I wonder if Mayweather would want a "tune up" fight first. I doubt it, but it would probably be the smart thing to do.

And I agree Morebass, I was actually going to comment on the fact that Pacquiao comes from all types of angles...floyd wouldn't be able to block/shoulder roll all of his punches. Pacquiao's style would FORCE mayweather to a fight. Sometimes Floyd's defense is so great, that his fights become boring. I think Pacquiao would be all over him and force a fight of out floyd. Real tough to call. #1 P4P fighter vs former #1 P4P king. Could go either way but with the long layoff, I gotta give the edge to Pacman.

manny by decision

floyd gonna run the whole time and try to counter punch.

manny's got to much stamina and hand speed for that cat.

he's never fought anyone like manny.....semi-similar to floyds style, minus the backpeddling.

manny's got all the confidence in the world, and is definately going to be aggressive in that bout.

guaranteed if he beats mayweather, P.I. will stand for Pacquaio Islands

I'm sure it would fuck up a fight with mayweather. But that would take some kind of serious miracle, Ricky Hatton will get killed by Pacman.

I suppose stranger things have happened though so it's a bit risky for Pacman, but he is going to make tooooooooooons of money against Hatton so it's hard to pass that opportunity up. They are talking about having the fight at Wimbledon, or if that's too small possibly Manchester Arena, which can hold over 40,000 people.

pacman aint overrated!! JMM is just that good (p4p #2). And it goes both ways because JMM SHOULD have another loss on his record. The first fight should be a WIN for Pacman, not a Draw because one of the judges said he scored the first round incorrectly. He admitted he should have scored it a 10-6 round since there were 3 knockdowns instead of 10-7, which would have gave Pacman the nod.

Either way both great fights, I personally had Pacman winning both. He knocked down Marquez 4 times total, and both fights the knockdows were the difference in scoring, imo. Pacman keeps improving too I think pacman would win the 3rd fight as well so I hope it happens. But with that said, Pacman is now at a superstar level....I would much rather he fights Mayweather before JMM.
