well my pops dropped the knowledge on me thanks to you guys.he told me king filep or is it philip? the second named the philippines the philippines.so yes the term filipino came from the spainards.

he also told me that the spanish used the native or indeginous as slaves to build their churches and buildings.sum you can still see today.he also said they infulenced the sports there too.

and as i stated lapo lapo revolted against the spanish and killed megelin.

i asked if they drove them away and he said america drove them out in the spanish american war.

that just reinforces my curiosity of our culture because we have so much outside influence in whut the filipinos and the philippines are today.

my opinion is that the U.S. is one of the contributing factors as to why the Phillipine Islands are such a fucked up country...

The U.S. is like a bully, their imperialistic conduct has gone way out of hand, they say they were going to help liberate the P.I. from the spanish but instead they just took control of the P.I. and raped it for its resources. just as what many foreign investors are doing today. they pay the ppl of the islands extremely low wages to produce whatever product it is that they want to produce and export it to other countries or import the goods back here in the U.S., somewhat a lesser form of legal sweat-shops.

the U.S. influence on the RPI (republic of the philippine islands) is nothing but tainted, almost as if the U.S. is saying "hey be like us" the more you follow our ways of life the more you'll be like us" but the ulterior motive is that the U.S. just wants it's greedy little hands on the land in the P.I. and thus they can rape the country and pay almost next to nothing compared to what it would cost for the U.S. to do business in its own country and other countries....

many ppl will say that the oppressors of the ppl of the P.I. are it's own government officials but it's not them, it's the American influence on excessive living, meaning the more you have they more happy you'll be, thus many rich bouguasie and politicians live excessive lifestyles pillaging and raping the poor of the P.I.

dont get me wrong, im happy to be a filipino/american PINOY, which is a problem coz it draws me in two directions between the mother country and the country i was born in, the U.S....

my knowledge, even though im only half filipino, i love to what i am. heres the facts.
first, when magellan tried to sail the world, he came across what is now the philippines. he was there and told a local tribal chieftan to give a tribute to magellans king. Lapu Lapu was that man. a war broke out between magellans men and the tribe. magellan died, and Lapu Lapu IS a national hero. after all that, spaniards still came to the P.I. (philppine islands) they wanted to convert the natives to be catholics. and of course they mixed their blood with them too. SO WE DO HAVE SPANISH BLOOD!! thats why we are darker from most asians. but some filipinos are mixed with chinese, so they are lighter, and have more slanted eyes. my grandmother was mixed with chinese, her maiden name being Masongsong. the spaniard were iggnorant at that time, im not sayin that they r now. they only wanted to spread catholicism, but they didnt do it in a peacful way. all this happened during the times of the spanish inquisition, and if u know about that, then u know that it was a messed up time.

and to soak, in the 60's a president declared martial law! he wanted to be a dictato. my dad and his family got out 2 yrs b4 it all went down. my dad's grandfather used to house rebel forces in his farm! that was a messed up time, it was like this til the 80's. then a female president took power, and things calmed down a bit.

Yea us non-white folks gotta lotta learnin to do on our own sincne they refuse to teach us anything in school.
i agree with u on that. i had a talk with my teacher today, i asked why this country is only balck and white. she is white, a country lady. but she kept referring and sayin that they do teach was about asia and all that, but i kept sayin that they dont go in depth liek they do with european and american culture. they dont even go in depth with african culture. about the continent. and natives there. its all about eurpean culture, and what they did to others.

but back to filipinos. there are different races there and stuff. like tagalogs, cebuans, etc

heres a fact that i found interesting from that site illapino put up.
Brain Weight of Filipinos

The weight of each of the brains of 113 full blooded Filipino natives who had died was taken to the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Total weight: 150,690 grams. Average weight per brain: 1,333 grams.

This was compared with the brain weight taken of the European brain (Scotch and English) and other races (Asian and African). The results shwoed that the average weight of the Filipino brain was high and compared favorably with the brain weight computed for European nations.

The result, if the figures are an indicator of the higher mental faculties of man, is not discouraging to the Filipinos nor to the Americans who claim that, as a people Filipinos may be educated to the same degree of civilization as the western nations. - from Maximillian Herzog (1908). American Anthropologist. American Anthropological Association: Washington DC.

i could go on all day, but heres some knowledge for u ppl to digest. i love learning about my culture, and i want to spread it to the world.....cuz who else will do it??
