there's a lot of small format consoles/mixxers being released in the next few months
AES NYC just rapped up so we'll be seeing lots of new products
i know i'm copping an 8-16 channel automated Tonelux console...waiting to find out the prices

MTA, John Oram and Trident are also dropping smaller sized consoles

but if i were you...i'd maybe look at an 8 channel summing box or line mixxer

Has anyone copped the Yamaha 01X digital mixer?

Its a digital mixer, mic pre, audio and midi interface all in one. its got motorized faders, the whole 9 yards. It came 2 years ago but for some reason, it doesn't seem like its being promoted very hard by yamaha.

I've been wanting to get this piece and trade in my mackie 1402 and delta 1010. Anyone had any experience with this?

im not on a budget i want whats right for the job so what would you WANT to use? btw way thanks for answering my questions
How much money are you working with? If you plan to upgrade in the FUTURE and money is not a problem NOW it makes sense to grab a 24, 32 or 48 console with 8 buss routing. Thats IF you want to go the mixer route. You can go the summing box route also.

Personally I would ditch the presonus, forget about the mackie, snatch a digi 002r, a great sounding solid state pre amp and a great converter. Thats IF money was not a problem and also based on the fact that I couldn't care less about using all 8 outs at once.

The 01x should have similar sound to the 01v, 02r, 03d, etc... I generally like the way that yamaha products sound in the digital mixer department. I had an 02r, it was pretty good and had a good set of features.

Anyone looking for a smaller analog console I recommend that you look for an older used analog console. These are often underpriced for what you get featurewise and often have better quality than today's Behringers/Mackies. You do have to make sure that the consoles are fully operational however. If you take care of them, they should last you a long time still since many of these older consoles have good build quality to them.

With that said, my favorite piece of gear is my centerpiece. Soundtracs MRX 32/8 modular console.:)
