A DVDRip has hit the net. Pretty good flick. One of the few movies I did some research on after watching it. Still not sure if I think it's real or not.

Supposed to be a movie about Banksy - it isn't. Can't tell if this is an elaborate joke, an expose on the sham the "street art is", or for real. No matter which it is the movie still sucked major. Showed very little of the art. I don't have anything positive to say about this movie other than I was able to finish it. .5 out of 5

I liked it, but it took a noticeable turn from documentary to Christopher Guestish mockumentary when Thierry becomes *spoiler*

an artist himself. I totally believed every detail about the story until that moment arrived where i was to assume that Banksy was pissed about being shammed into providing a sentence about MBW.

And the narrator was too feature filmish, like he should have been narrating a fairy tale come to life ala Disney Channel.

I felt kind of cheated at the end and the film lost its magic for me.

If it IS fake, then Banksy is a sellout, and looking back at his work, that's a shame because he was doing things in art that shook the worlds comfort level.

This quote sums things up pretty nice for me:

Earlier this year I’d been sent to a press screening of Banksy’s film ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ with the expected outcome that I write a sparkling review. However it was after that hour and a half that I went from being ambivalent to hating Banksy. Not for his lack of technical skill, depthless political jibes or righteous rants against consumerism- it was because of the cinema full of idiots that were completely romanced by him. People who answered their phones mid-way to exclaim they were watching the Banksy film, people who clapped and snort-laughed at his thicko, shock-jock stunts and stencils.
Social commentary or not, Banksy is the Tesco of the art-world, what he promotes is tacky, mass-produced shit that provokes a reaction to make himself money. Art should be one-off canvasses, stuff that can’t be copied by anyone. There is no skill in producing something that anyone could do, it’s a clever business module maybe, but it’s not art. But nowadays nobody seems to care about talent anymore they’re just happy to be spoonfed shit, it’s like being stuck in X Factor.”

Banksy’s not radical he’s just a toy with a PR team
