EA Sports announced today that they would be launching an MMA title to debut in 2010. The game will be developed by EA Tiburon. The game was eluded to last November by Frank Shamrock while speaking with Steve Curtis for an article for MMA Payout, so the ground work has been laid for some time in reference to the MMA title. EA also has featured Gina Carano and Randy Couture in past video games, so this may also be options for the game. More details as they become available

EA Sports to release MMA-themed videogame, "EA SPORTS MMA," in 2010

THQ isn't the only videogame maker entering the mixed-martial-arts game market.

Electronic Arts Inc.'s EA SPORTS brand will issue "EA Sports MMA" in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 platforms.

The California-based company, which has delivered massively popular videogame series such as "Madden NFL" and "Tiger Woods PGA TOUR," today announced some basic details of the game.

The announcement comes just weeks after THQ released "UFC 2009 Undisputed," the most sophisticated MMA videogame ever produced. The game, which features the likenesses of more than 80 UFC fighters, has won rave reviews from the videogame and MMA media. The title is part of a multi-year deal between the UFC and THQ.

Last week, at the 2008 Video Game Awards on Spike TV, UFC President Dana White announced "UFC 2010 Undisputed" will be released next year, signaling what possibly could be annual releases of the highly anticipated title.

EA Sports, meanwhile, will work with developers EA Tiburon on the "EA Sports MMA" title.

"Fans have been begging EA SPORTS to get into the cage, and 'EA SPORTS MMA' will put them in control of the sport’s unique combat experience while finally, in an ...interactive experience, capturing the raw intensity that has made mixed martial arts one of the fastest growing sports in the world," EA SPORTS President Peter Moore stated. "We're ready for the fight."

Few other details about the game were revealed.

However, sources tell MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) Frank Shamrock and Frank Trigg are two of the likenesses expected to be in the game. Current UFC heavyweight Randy Couture, who spent much of 2008 in a contract dispute with the UFC, is also a rumored fighter in the game. Dozens of additional (non-UFC) fighters are expected to be in the first release.

EA Sports, founded in 1982, has produced additional sports titles geared around NCAA football and basketball, the NBA, NHL, FIFA and NASCAR, among others.

I think they might have some trouble since most the fighters that will be featured in the game are fighters that most people never heard of. UFC is a household name not MMA. I do think EA really knows how to put together a good game but with the lack of big name fighters and the UFC branding it won't be too easy. Never the less I am still looking forward to what they can offer.

Gameplay verywell could suck, too, tho, and they could be just trying to make a buck..

Its not like EA Sports puts out only quality games.. Look at NBA Live for instance.. That franchise has been garbage for almost ten years now.

True that. Gameplay might be sick, but the UFC has all of the best fighters.
sorry ufc dont have all the best fighters and if they made this game and included people who are no longer in ufc and fight other places like arlovski and sylvia among others plus fedor they will sell this game and alot of people will buy I would buy if it had Fedor and other people Fedor is by far the best heavyweight in the world

Besides Fedor, I can't think of many others.

Arlovski and Sylvia are both in the UFC game, meaning they signed their likeness away for life, so neither one of them are going to be in the game.

^^yep, that's the reason I didn't buy it. At first I thought it was cool, the graphics look nice and the flash KO's were impressive at first, but then you realize it's hella robotic and scripted. It's really the first attempt at MMA on the new consoles so that's somewhat expected, but still its just too limited, too robotic too scripted for me really to enjoy it very long.

Yeah, it is pretty intricate.

2-0 the standup does feel very robotic and not very fluid. Especially when your inside fighting, whenever you are taking hits, its like you are frozen and can't move or transition into a block, or even walk away.

And almost no upper body movement, as far as weaving and bobbing, head movement...etc.

Overall, its still a pretty fun game though.

Yeah I seriously hate that shit. Its like your fucking frozen taking an ass beating. You can back up, but not before taking 52 knees to the thigh and a few elbows to the grill.
