E3 isn't open to the public. You gotta be affiliated with the video game industry somehow. Or win tickets.

Like with SEMA, there's likely easier ways to get into E3 than simply being an architect or journalist.

My buddy got in SEMA by winning placement in a booth, but also would have been able to attend as a licensed Memphis Audio salesman even though he only buys products for himself and his friends.

You can probably work for gaming stores and get in through a filtering system.
