LOL, you're a fool J-Locc...I was spittin shit like that years before I was born...LOL

Naww, for real though, that's as real as it gets. Another reason for putting my pic on my album cover...people always say I "sound black"....that picture was for those people, I'm not tryin to front here. If I never made an appearance anywhere or never had pics taken of me, people would never know I was white, and that's a fact. So, I had to let it be known, HERE I AM, like it or not. For those who don't take a second to hear me and decide whether they like me or not based on my MUSIC, they can eat one. That's the same ignorance that will hold them down for the remainder of their lives. Not my issue...

the game isn't based on race anymore Foul Mouth...I started rappin about 9 or 10 years ago pimp...the only people that hated the fact that I rapped were white folks...real talk.

...cause I have nothing to hide from anybody...that is probably what DoBad thought too. If people don't like it, tough shit...he probably made the music for people who like his music, not his picture...plain and simple.

Precisely..... Good points made Sydal.

About what dude was saying above, about it being a race issue... i have mixed opinions on this...

I agree that some cats might just not like the cover. However, I think the cover art gets a bad rap mostly because DOBAD is "white."

Man OG MS did that cover. Killa graphix. It's not bad at all. People make it out to be the worst shit ever. They focus on it. Would they do that if DOBAD were a black dude? Would it happen as much? Probably not.

Try not to be naive, Sydal. And I don't mean that in a disrespectful way. It is still very hard to get in the door as white rapper. You have to be incredibly skilled if you want to be taken seriously. Em made it that way and also all the black legends made it that way; Pac, Biggie, Big L, Black C, etc. etc. They made it hard for anyone period wants to me a real MC, let alone a white cat. I respect your ability to disregard all the hate that goes on. But it does happen..

Did anyone hear us on the air?

either way why do all of my posts turn into this?
lol.. it's all love people. support REAL HIP-HOP.

I don't doubt any of that playa. I am a little naive, I know that...but thats because it's like I said above...where I'm from, the black folks don't hate on me, the white ones do. I've never experienced anything to make me say otherwise, ya know? And yes, you have to be extremely talented to get a record deal. You can't just be able to rap. You have to have this aura about you, this charisma, stage presence, look...it all goes together. A lot of people don't have it all, white black pink or purple folks. I know the hate goes on, I feel it's presence, I've seen it happen...only reason I disregard it is because everytime something negative comes towards you, it pushes you that much further. Negative words promote you and makes you wanna show people what you are really capable of. That's why I disregard it, cause it doesn't hurt, but it sure helps a lot.

i dont think you understand what i am sayin pimp....

race has alot to do with it.the biggest consumer of rap is the white race but the white race is buying the shit they see on MTV and BET and all that mainstream shit.they arnt buyin this underground shit.there are buyin the upper underground shit like Mac dre and Nickatina and shit like that but Doabd aint on that level yet....

how much did Emnimem sell with the Slim Shady EP?....
Eminem sold mills after being signed to dre so Dobad and Em are on 2 different levels....

on the reality tip,you can believe it or run from it but race plays a big part in sellin units on the underground level.it aint about being scared of your identity, its about makin money.point mothafuckin blank.if your white, you know its guaurenteed thats cats are gonna pass on your album based on the fact that your white.theres alot of oppinions on this shit and theres a few facts....

"For those who don't take a second to hear me and decide whether they like me or not based on my MUSIC, they can eat one. That's the same ignorance that will hold them down for the remainder of their lives. Not my issue..."

WRONG
that is your issue cus thats potential money your losing....im not saying if your black your a sure shot cus you know this game is overcrowded with junk.but being a minority in this shit makes it that much harder....

one consumers ignorance means that much less money for you....
each potential consumers views on your album cover are gonna mean money for you,or one less potential fan....

"that is probably what DoBad thought too. If people don't like it, tough shit...he probably made the music for people who like his music, not his picture...plain and simple."

the thing is its not Dobads loss if the shit dont sell, its Solitarys.hes the investor (correct me if im wrong).now he might not feel me either but fuck,im sure hes tryna make money.if your were to use that sell that same album with the same art work but put a black dude on the cover, guess whos gonna sell more....white teens are the number one consumer but that doesnt go for underground/local shit.im not sayin be ashamed of your identiy cus i aint either.i go chill with every body from my town.im a coo cat.i chill,i'll bust and they like it.but at that point they know me.to the average cat goin to tower records to buy 1 cd amongst a 1000,they gonna base there desision on every aspect.including your race....

a mothafucka dont go the record store, see a cd,pick it up and say "awww this shit sound sick like a mothafucka,i like what im hearin".if they dont know who the fuck you are, there gonna judge the book by its cover.and if your tryna get paid then 90% of the mothafuckas your tryna sell to dont know who the fuck you are....

and theres no reason to front.im not sayin if your white then say "im black" on a song.let it be known cus by that time, either your gonna have'em or your not.point blank.dont front.not showin your pic on your first release aint frontin.but you gotta strategize if you wanna win a game pimp....

this post wasnt made for every body to feel, its just some real shit.when they say white america is buying most rap shit.this dont account for your shit.dont cross underground with mainstream shit cus its 2 totally different worlds....

race does matter.i can go on and on but its obviously useless....

I think this is an excellent topic. I did not hear the interview on KPOO. But i think the discussion about the usefulness of showing faces on CD vocers is a good one.

Both sides make good points.

I had to think long and hard about whether or not to put the faces of our artists on our debut album. I looked at it from two perspectives: marketability of this project, increasing awareness of the artists.

Marketability won out. If I put the faces onthere of people they didn't know, then the record would be competing with other faces fromother CD's..... we'd lose out.

As far as increasing the artists profile, I didn't thinkthat was an issue. The number one thing we had inour corner was good music. I wanted that to be the thing that stood out.

Foul Mouth is absolutely right thatit is important to eliminate all distractions. It is about money. If you think yourartists' image will sell records, put it out there. We have some hard looking people, real-life thugs who are trying to come up in this music game. But.... we also have songs onthe CD that are more radio-ish. Someone might hear of the album and then see these monsters and back off. So I decided to go withthe theme. What would make it the most marketable. Color does make a difference. Look, style, everything makes a difference.

The stuff about staying true to yourself. That sounds like an artist speaking. I am a manager. It is my job to not let the artist's pride defeat him. I make the decision (in collaboration with others) that this/that may be the best way to go. the artist will always have his pride come first. But you need people on our team to balance that out.

Some people will still not feel our cover, but I think that it is interesting enough to keep the momentum going from the "word of mouth" that we want to create.

Regardless of your opinion on this one, we can all agree that covers are important. ESPECIALLY for new groups. I am curious... I have seen some pretty fancy covers onthis forum. I wonder how much people spend on the covers and who they patronize.
