died around 2000 when record sales peaked....

in 98 DMX, 8Ball, Yuk, C Murder, etc. all had good albums...

but then Def Jam, No Limit, Bad Boy got super big and that's when it started to go downhill.

When the South became the ones in the front seat of hip-hop all of the artistry, truth and truly street elements of rap music died off. Yes you have your Scare Face's and UGK's, but they put out more Do Da Stanky Leg, Soldier Boy type shit on an almost daily bases. Once the rest of the country saw that simple shit winning THE GAME WAS INFECTED. Think of all of the artist that are "staying relevant" with this bullshit. Think of the Bay artist that are on this bullshit...E-40 being one of the ring leaders. Once the Crunk South took its place as leaders in the shaping of what rap music was to become it was a funeral in the making.

Game Over was writtin by a snitch so who cares whe thinks.

Furthermore gangsta rap was far from dead after Pac and Biggie died....First off Pac and Biggie did hardcore hip hop but I wouldn't consider it gangsta....No Limit blew up during the time Biggie died and that was gangsta rap......Gangsta rap was not what it was on the mainstream level after Pac and Biggie died......The underground never slowed down as far as gangsta rap.....Pac died in '96 and B.I.G. on '97 but look how huge a year Awol Records had in 1998 and it don't get no more gangsta then Till My Casket Drop, Mr. Mafioso, Fear No Fate, Waiting To Inhale and all of their other releases....Get Rich Or Die Trying brought gangsta rap back to the mainstream temporarly and T-Nutty, Fat Tone(rip), Mitchy Slick, Domination, Eldorado Red and Nipsey Hussle all have popped up in tbe last several years showing that gangsta rap has life in the underground..

The nigga AZ that wrote Game Over is looking at it from a perpsective of a nigga that only hears mainstream and radio shit.

And why is this thread in the BART forum....This should bein the General Hip Hop forum.

more like when heads started giving passes to "studio gangsters" which is like 90% of rap music
Studio gangsters have always got passes.....Eazy was the only NWA member with true street ties.....Pac has the most overrated street cred in hip hop history.....Brotha Lynch was not deep in the streets like that and and don't let me start up on Mob Deep.

it started to decline with p. diddy's shiny suit movement and then did a nosedive around 2001 or so

It ain't dead just underground, I would say the internet has more to do with the proliferation of shitty artists than anything else tho... Cheap exposure, MySpace, cheap ways to record, etc. Look at Berner. Back in the day you had to put in major work and be in it to win it in order to be known... Couldn't just sit in front of your computer and smoke... More fakers now for sure

I read the book "Game Over" which was based on the life of the kingpin in the movie "Paid in Full" he mentions that gangsta rap died when Biggie and Tupac got killed. U agree?
In the mainstream world it did... Once the mainstream lost their two biggest money making icon's in the whole "gangsta rap" era, they took it down a notch & started fuckin' wit the hole "bling" era which is & has been successful for over a decade now.

I asked this question because the South dominated the radio right now...as far as whos gettin $$$...Also, I asked about Biggie and Pac because to me I saw truth in what the dude was saying. I thought it's important to reinvent a regions sound or an artist to reinvent themselves...look at artists that reinvent themselves so they dont stay stagnant...LL COOL J, Short Dog, 40, Snoop, they only collabo with artists that are relevant or always bring something new to the table...u cant be in the game and keep doin the same thang..jus my two cents...
