What about Japan? I think they have the highest amounts of 100+ year olds. Fuck it, google:

Record 20,000-plus Japanese over 100 years old
2003-09-09

The number of Japanese aged at least 100 rose to 20,561 this year, a new record in the world's longest-living nation, the government said Tuesday.

[...]

Japan's life expectancy is the longest in the world for both sexes _ 85.23 years for women and 78.32 for men in 2002 _ and the growing number of people who have lived more than a century is a source of national pride.

[...]

About 84 percent of Japan's centenarians are women, including the country's oldest living person, Kamato Hongo, who turns 116 on Sept. 16. The second oldest is a man, 114-year-old Yukichi Chuganji.

[...]

Okinawa, a chain of islands on Japan's southern fringe, boasts the country's highest proportion of people over 100: 34.67 per 100,000. Local specialties include vegetables, fruits and bean curd.

Must be genetics, diet and I'm sure like you said, peaceful/simple lifestyles (seems that most of these old folks are away from the busy mainland).
Japan too, I didn't forget it but simply don't know whether they are concentrated in a single region or not (probably not)

And my point was lifestyle, which, of course, also plays a huge role in Japan

yup yup, plus the large proportion of meat that traditional japanese eat, is seafood.
Seafood that is fresh and not processed, and mix that with tofu, soybeans, vegetables, fruits, and other legumes, makes for great health.

being Pescatarian and Vegetarian has its upsides.

Actually this is close to a hypothesis very well supported by data

Because most people who lived 100 or more years come from mountain areas where they lived a very calm and peaceful life. That's Tibet in China, The Lerik Region in Azerbaijan, the Rodopa in Bulgaria, the Iran Mountains, etc.

If you've seen the lifestyle of these people you would know what I am talking about. It is not laziness thought, it's just the lack of stress
I read an article that said that the areas with the most octagenarians (?) were Japan and an island near Greece.

Commonalities of people who live over 100:
They work hard (physical labor)
They eat locally grown produce

I believe it's possible. I know this old white woman that's 102 years old. Said she was born in 1906. Still moves around and does things. She looks like she's 80 or something. Actually, she looks just like Sophia from Golden Girls. Says she's happy and has never felt better and isn't ready to go yet. I admire old people like that.

America is probably the only country where people in their 50's, 60's, 70's and even their 80's are considered old. The average lifespan of a human is supposed to be close to 120 years. If you go to a country outside of America, then it's NOTHING to see a person well over 100, and still moving around like they're in there 30's.
Also...Of all living things on earth, humans have the shortest lifespan.

Are you sure about all of that?
