co sign that shit is a total cop out, addiction is a personality trait. i smoked weed and cigarettes for like 10 years and quit cold turkey. every so often i can smoke a J or a cigarette and I'm not on the wagon again. same with drinking. i drink to get hammered maybe once or twice a month, when i was in the navy I was basically shitfaced and hungover for like 3 years straight. its all about your state of mind

Yes and no. Things like cigarettes become crutches and habits much more than addictions, although nicotine is VERY additive, and thats a proven fact.

People get into habits when they smoke....almost like and operant condition. THey get yelled at during work? GO have a smoke. HAve an argument with their bf/gf? Have a smoke. Almost get into a car accident? Have a smoke.

Marijuana has yet to be determined if it is addictive or not, as many more people can some a J a month, as opposed to smoking one cigarette a month. I personally say it is NOT addictive, as people can get addicted to the HIGH much more than the actual substance.

I, myself, have quit smoking...2X, both times cold turkey. I just dont want to get cancer or some other fucked up disease from it...thats ridiculous.

When talking about addictions, there are pysical addictions and mental addictions, both can yield different outcomes and play off one another...keep that in mind.

Good post.Ive been drinkin for about 15 years and i used to think it was genetic cuz my family are pretty heavy drinkers but i think i was using that as an excuse but more than anything i do it to self medicate.I smoke cigarettes too but i can go a couple weeks without either and not have a craving but i always seem to go back to it,maybe its outta boredom i dont know.

Anything in life can be environmental or genetic.

Genetic risk factors exist for many diseases. Alcoholism is a disease as well, correct? I dont think it's much of a stretch to think that if you have alchoholic relatives there's a better possibility you will turn out an alcoholic.

PS - I always wanna spell it 'alchoholic'
