Home Turf was the best hosted by my homegirl Dominique Daprima she's now in L.A doing her thang...As far as turntable-ism it's a must on my side i still rip the 1200's to shreds and been to all most dmc battles and we use to compete back in them days as the Turntable Wizards me Grandmixer TDC and Mr Macala it was the best to be at these shows and participating in them as well.
to me, a turntable can be used as an instrument... and i got as much respect for someone who knows how to play it (or scratch with it rather) as much as someone who can play any other traditional instrument
wrd Ecose....But what I was sayin is that dude said "cds are ok" but he would fire and not pay someone who came in with a mac. With serato (and a mac or pc) u can use vinyl records its just that the SONGS are coming off the laptop....Yer still mixing and scratching vinyl.
I know plenty of DJs who still use the CDJs in the club even if they're usin serato I just choose to use the vinyl cause that's what I'm most comfortable with.
On the topic of the thread, I think more Bay rappers should have a DJ and take 15 of their hypemen/friends off the stage...all with mics and all lookin ridiculous. A good DJ will get yer set the way it needs to be
Everyone in 4onefunk is really dope! Can't forget The Bullet Proof Space Travelers, one of the greatest dj crews ever Eddie Def, Dj MARZ, Dj Quest, Dj Cue and Mc Eddie K
Much respect to all the dj's and turntablism, its the shit that got started with the whole rap game, and most of the people are right if a dj cant really scratch on vinyl then it aint much...now am not sayin its a bad thing for using cd's cuz if you really think about it..its about the skill to being able to mix and scratch and jus make everything flow..thats a tru dj...all the bay area dj's i got much respect for...for me the dj's i have always been a big fan of are the x-ecutioners..but it aint jus about one group its about everyone from jazzy jeff..grandmaster flash..even the bay dj's triple threat dj's...dj rocky rock from san jo..jus everyone...much respect
seeing how my uncle is a dj of course i got respect for dj's. i use to try to learn to scratch and that shit aint easy. mos def a craft u gotta perfect. and we get stuck luggin crates around
Of course, that's the reason y rap/hip-hop blew up. I could listen 2 Muh-fuckaz like Jazzy Jeff & the X-Ecutioners cuttin' it up all day. I always wanted 2 be a D.J. since I wuz little but I could nevr afford turntables and a mixer and everything.
^^^in today's mainstream hip hop, it aint gonna happen! They want catchy dances and hooks. Instead of real lyrical skills. Man i miss the 90's where hip hop actually took skills and the R&B was the shit.
