Oh no doubt Rick Rock got heat , he's one of the originators for the Bay/Sac. His sound is also mainstream enough to be liked by everybody. Droop E got some nice beats too but he sounds like Rick Rock.

It is what it is man. But what can you do? Not you personally just a figure of speech...

Doc Truth, make your point without using the past as a crutch cause these cats around here will automatically try to discredit you by attacking the fact that you mentioned the 'glory days' of the bay.

How many times can people mention the word "club" in their songs?? I've been askin that same question for 3 years, lol. I'll tell you what a homie told me though and it made a lot of sense "a lot of this music today is more about relating to who is buying it. That's why you don't have to be as talented as b4".

Agree??

I feel you and agree. Again i'm not using the past as a crutch, just an example. Also the cat a couple posts up is right. People in the bay dont really want change. So its really me just stating my opinion. If you step outside the box you get accused of being too "East Coast", if you dont make songs about scrapas and whistle tips you are called a backpacker and wack.

I think alot of producers just need to turn off the radio and come up with their own ideas. Every Bay producer nowadays seems to try to sound like Rick Rock or try to emulate a mainstream producers style. Not that I'm a big shot or nothin but I make beats too and I do that shit too. I want my shit to sound bay cuz thats the kind of work I want but its getting to the point where people in the bay don't know what that bay sound is anymore. Time to go back to the drawing board and reformulate cuz the shit ain't working for most bay artists anymore, the shits getting stale.

I happened to like this new trend. Im quite positive its bringing newer audience to bay music scene. Why not the bay area is already a mixing pot. In all honesty I started buying albums this last year and a half to get this sound cause it does have a mainstream sound, but remember its our fellow artists from our own backyard making these hits. Yes it might get played out cause it seems as tho we as consumers bicker about whats in and whats not and why everyone is following the same style. But as long as im feelin it imma continue to support this new sound. Great thread btw....

i don't wanna speak for no one
but i've heard a lot of Sean T's beats, and he's got shit of so many styles but it's the artists that pick the same beats
i remember being at his studio and a number of cats called that day asking for HYPHY type beats, this was when hyphy first got big
so it's not neccesarily the producers, it's us artists picking the same beats from them, and ignoring their whole arsenal
I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT SEAN, MOE. DUDE IS SO VERSATYLE, IT'S RIDCULOUS. I DON'T EVEN THINK YOU COULD CATEGORIZE HIS SOUND. HE'S JUST GIFTED.

MOST ARTISTS COMIN OUT NOW FROM THE BAY ARE TRYN TO SOUND LIKE THE LAST CATS SINGLE...

I like Rick's music. But I have to disagree with you. Mike Mosley, Sam Bostic, Studio Ton and Ant Banks set the blueprint. After awhile his music is gonna sound the same. Listen to that new B-Legit track and listen to the Federations go dumb song. It's sounds like the same beat. Might wanna think about doing what Dre does. Buy beats from other niggaz and put his name on it.Not hatin just stating my opinion.

Me being a producer I work hard to try to establish my own idenity and signature sound. I hate it when rapper wanna buy beats and be like can you make me a Kanye West beat with the Vocals sampled in it. I wanna really tell them to go buy a beat from Kanye if thats what you're looking for. I ain't no fool I do it because I ain't gonna turn down money if they willing to pay me something cool for that kinda beat. But I would prefer to do my own thing and make them respect me and my sound as a producer. I think every producer that started out making beats was inspired by their favorite producer and wanted to sound like them. I started off making my beats similar to Mike Mosley and Sam Bostic then once I was signed to AWOL doing beats I had to come up with my own idenity because I was producing albums with Mike Mosley and I didn't want my shit to sound like his and also I didn't want the fans to notice that I was trying to sound like him so I came up with my own shit. It's cool to be original. Sooner or later people will respect your work.

I miss that old Sam Bostic/Mike Mosely/Studio Ton production. Back in the day like E.Z.S.D. that old Click Down & Dirty, Mafiosos type shit. I like the old shit way better than the new stuff. Some of the new stuff is coo but....

Its gettting to the point.. where representing the bay is almost a gimic in itself to make a hot song.. lets add all these words in a song.. hyphy, stupid, retarded, scrappers, purple, club, .. Add some bay area codes.. 408. 415. 510... add a simple 808 bassdrum with a 808 clap.. and then add some CRAZY weird bleep sound or crazy cymbol percussion hit on top of all that.. and thats supposed to be a hit.. Its cool to have love for your hood, but that can't be it..that can't be all an artist has to offer..if everyone is making a song about the bay,all sounding the same.. how are we seperating ourselves from what everyone else is doing?..

The teams sound is pretty tight.. but its not really melody driven music.. its beat driven beats... and that style has been done before in the mid 90's by timberland on a couple tracks.

There needs to be more MELODY driven beats.. All songs can't be the same BOOM bleep clank clank zip zip type shit thats so easy to make..

to answer the question..>Do bay producers just bite whats hot at the momment? No they don't ONLY bite whats hot at the moment.. Im sure some may have something completely different .. but is that what the artist is going to want to buy? .. people want to sound like the other cat thats hot at the moment.. even if a producer aint felling that particular style, a good one. could and WOULD go ahead and make a (lil jon , kayne west, Dr. dre ) beat to get paid.. its supply and demand. u want that? I can make you something like that.. NO PROBLEM.. :)

Our whole thing is to be different. so our shit is called straight tripping productions, and I actually like when people don't like something I make.. or can't get it.. cause I know it aint for everyone to get and like.. (we straight tripping ) :) not everyone has grown up with the same musical influence and tastes as me.. thats what makes something original, so we have no problem.. letting be what is. we just do what we like, and hope others can appreciate it. if they can't its their loss.

check out some of our music..
