The Slim Shady LP was a good rap cd in my opinion; his second album was all right. The Slim Shady LP was an honest album and very entertaining.
Eminem has been turned into a target for hate. I honestly think a lot of people who diss him do so not because of true personal opinion but as the result of enforced popular thought amongst their inner cultural group. In other words, it's the popular thing to do... much easier to flow with the crowd then to go against the grain and do so openly. People complain about his voice... he's saying stupid shit, etc. If you really listen he is pretty fucking clever and talented... but whatever right? That doesn't matter... what matters is the crowds that are attracted to the music and once that crowd is much different then your own it's time to drop it and throw your interests elsewhere. Sure some of you really don't like him for valid reasons... but just sit down and think about it. Are you acting on truly personal opinion? Or does the unconscious popular thought that's hiding under your skin have influence? For a long time I was a slave to these underlying "popular flows" and not at all aware of it... I honestly thought I acted on truly personal opinion, but I didn't... not totally. Sometimes I still catch myself influenced by bogus popular thought... thankfully I'm conscious enough to locate it and then discard it.
Back to Eminem... I just downloaded his new album, I actually don't really listen to rap at all anymore but Eminem usually has something worth while to say so I figured what the fuck. This album so far seems different... I'm not sure if Eminem is maturing or if he's become more reserved as a result of legal pressures.
