314 total return yards on Sunday. Damn thats insane!!

::

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Electrifying on the field and humble off it, Devin Hester thanked God and his Bears teammates Wednesday after being named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September.

Brendon Ayanbadejo watches Devin Hester celebrate after
returning a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown last Sunday in Detroit.

The dynamic second-year pro leads the NFL with 602 combined kick return yards, 239 punt return yards and an average of 19.9 yards per punt return. Hester is also the only player in the league to have brought back both a punt and kickoff for touchdowns this season.

“It’s not only me,” Hester said. “First of all, I thank God for everything He’s doing in my life. Second of all I want to thank my teammates. Those are the guys that deserve this award. It’s a great honor and I’m just hoping we continue out the rest of the season like this.”

Hester claimed his fourth special teams player of the week honor in Week 2 after he returned punts 73 yards for a touchdown and 31 yards to set up a field goal and had a 95-yard kickoff return TD nullified by a penalty in a 20-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last Sunday in Detroit, the 2006 second-round pick shattered his own team record with 314 return yards while averaging 31.3 yards on seven kickoff returns and 19.0 yards on five punt returns. His 97-yard kickoff return TD gave the Bears a brief 20-17 lead.

“Devin Hester is a special player,” said coach Lovie Smith. “Whenever you get named the Special Teams Player of the Month, that’s big news. We’ve come to expect it around here, with the type of play we’ve gotten from him. Hopefully it’ll continue.”

Hester has now won two straight NFC Special Teams Player of the Month awards, having also been honored last December.

Hester has scored nine return TDs on four punts, four kickoffs and one missed field goal in 23 career games, including the post-season. However, he’s officially credited with seven combined kick return TDs—one shy of Gale Sayers’ team record—because his kickoff return in Super Bowl XLI and his missed field goal return last year don’t count toward that total.

“I get amazed by Devin all the time,” said Rod Wilson, one of Hester’s blockers. “His ability and his talent are crazy.”

Hester repeatedly praises his teammates when discussing his success in the return game.

“The confidence is the most important thing,” he said. “Once you get around a group of guys that we have on the special teams—guys you put all your faith in and you spend every day with—it’s so easy to go out there and return punts. With the teammates that I have, they’re great athletes.

“I couldn’t be in a better spot than this. We kind of feed off each other. Every return when we’re going out there, a lot of players come up to me and say, ‘Just follow me, I’ve got it.’ It gives you a lot of joy that you’ve got players like that that are looking forward to the return game.”

They keep saying every week they are going to but so far I've only seen him in on a few plays each game, only as a decoy. They need to give him the ball though because with the right offensive plays he could be a sav.

I never really thought about it. Honestly, I'm starting to think it's not as much of the QB's fault as it is the offensive line starting to show their age, bad running game, and more importantly the horrible play calling by Ron Turner (brother of Norv). Last week for example da bears were up 13-3 going into the 4th quarter and Turner called 60 passing plays and only 22 running plays for the game. Why the hell would you have someone who hasn't started a game in over 2 years pass that many times on their debut and while you're winning the game? Stupidity. They just need to stick to the essentials which is run the ball, defense and special teams will take care of the rest.

And Cleveland's Josh "Mtv" Cribbs won the AFC version of this award. He's like Hester Light.
Yeah…I was gonna say…he was the NFC Special Teams player of the month.

Cribbs won the AFC award and is definitely one of the best.

Ron Turner is such a fucking genius. Who would have thought if you send Devin Hester deep and throw him the ball he will catch it and score a TD?

Hesters Second career catch goes for an 81 yard TD.

Hmm, I think maybe this Hester guy has a little bit of talent, maybe they could use him more on offense? Or it will probably be better to continue to use him as a decoy and just pretend like their going to give him the ball like they've been doing all season. Ron Turner knows best!!!

Most athletes do, but more importantly I think is what cam immediately after that, "Second of all I want to thank my teammates. Those are the guys that deserve this award."

Hester is really humble and an all around good person. Whenever he has interviews, he always gives credit to his teammates and doesn't take much credit himself. He isn't flashy or flamboyant, which is refreshing to see these days.

Another day, another player of week award for Hester
By Larry Mayer

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Bears superstar Devin Hester on Wednesday was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in last Sunday’s 34-31 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Hester returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. The score enabled him to tie Gale Sayers’ club record with eight career punt and kickoff return TDs. Hester later caught an 81-yard TD pass to tie the score 31-31 with 1:38 to play.

In 22 career games, Hester has averaged a TD on every 13.3 kick or punt return, the best ratio in NFL history. Brian Mitchell holds the NFL record with 13 combined kick returns, a mark that he set while playing in 223 games.

Hester has now been named Special Teams Player of the Week five times in two seasons, including twice this year. He was also named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September.

Health update: Defensive tackle Tommie Harris (hamstring) and cornerback Nate Vasher (groin) did not practice Wednesday. Guard Ruben Brown (shoulder) and defensive tackle Darwin Walker (knee) were limited in the workout.

For the Eagles, safety Brian Dawkins (neck) and tight end L.J. Smith (hernia) did not practice, while tackle William Thomas (knee) was limited.

damn, that was a good game. Down by 4, at their own 3 yard line with 1:52 left, no timeouts, bears drive 97 yards Muhammad scores game winning TD with 9 seconds left in the game.

They kicked away from Hester every single time, so no returns, but Hester had a few big catches, two big ones on the final drive. Greise got the job done. Good game!!

I checked my Siccness Pick 'Em and was 11/11 before the end of this game so I had to follow the stats on NFL.com like it was a live game lol. Then I was getting worried after the pass to Brown was incomplete because it took forever to say if it was final. I thought they were revewing it or sorting out some penalties.
