Find a job and pay your own way through college. how are they being denied a way to get an education??? because the government isnt giving them a hand-out???

if you are already convicted for a drug related crime what makes the government think that you will use the money the way it should be used?????

i thought if you were convicted of ANY felony you couldnt get any financial aid or any other means of government assistence for your education

Lets not forget that this is a LOAN, they're paying interest on these loans. So it's not a handout like your trying to imply because they're paying it back.

it just as well might be if they are going to LOAN you 10,000 dollars and not charge you interest and allow you to pay after you graduate at a rate of about 100 dollars a month.

why should the government be required to HAVE to give you a LOAN.

Well convicted felons need the loan the most I think... Cause if they can't get the loan, then they will probably just say fuck school then and go back to the streets.
i dont know of too many convicted felons that go back to school let alone complete it.

Are you kidding? Yeah it's a lot of money and it's spread out, but if you stop paying those loans WATCH what happens. It definitly isn't pretty....

getting student aid is really complicated. you have to file all of your income taxes, and based on that, thats how much money you get. Its not like the government just gives you free money, because they need all the information about the school you'll be attending, whether or not you'll live on campus or not, etc. etc. But its usually barely enough to cover tuition, room and board, and books. and why should the government pay for people to go to college? (this is an assumption) if you go to college, you will probably be able to work at a better job than without, or do the same job you might have without a degree more efficiently. i don't see why there is a drug question at all, since it would make more sense just to ask whether or not the person in question has committed any felonies... but thats the way things are.

CAUSE IF I DID MY TIME, AND SUPPOSEDLY REHABILITATED, THEN WHY SHOULDN'T I TRY TO PURSUE MY CAREER AND CONTINUE WHERE I LEFT OFF?

THIS IS A FUCCED UP WORLD AND SOCIETY. FUK THE LAWS, AND FUK THE EDUCATION SYSTEM. TO ALL YOU YOUNgSTA'S, IF YOU WANNA PURSUE SOMETHIN', I SUggEST YOU gET ALL THE BOOKS THAT PERTAIN TO THAT SHIT, AND EDUCATE YOURSELF, LEARN FOR YOURSELF(HANDS ON), AND PASS WHATEVA TEST IT IS TO gET WHATEVA CERTIFICATE. THAT TAKES A LOT OF SELF MOTIVATION AND DISCIPLINE, BUT ATLEAST YOU DON'T THROW MONEY AWAY AND USE THE PUNK-ASS gOVERNMENT'S REJECTION AS AN EXCUSE TO NOT ADVANCE IN WHAT YOU WANNA BE IN. AND THIS INTERNET SHIT FACILITATES THAT. SOAK IT UP.

And also for the record its not felonies that disqualify you from fed aid its a drug conviction. That means you can be like me and have multiple non-drug related felonies and still get aid, but if you so much as catch a misdemenor possesion charge you get no help for either 5 or 7 years(I cant remember off hand which).

Also, I got a question. They seal up your file no matter how many felonies you've been convicted of once you turn 18 right?
WRONG!!!!!

that is only in regards to public info like jobs and media and shit. if you catch a case they will bring that up ESPECIALLY if the charges are similar. there is no sealing of the files. you have to get them expunged if you want them completely removed. thats an expensive process requiring a good attorney and a long record of improvement. i got my first felony at 15 and every case i caught after 18 that was brought up. this is ohio though so shit may be different.

i really hate this law but im biased because of my drug arrest history. lol

there are two points made here that i agree with. edj and mclean both make good points. mclean is right. its not the govts responsibility but then again, people who do time HAVE paid their debt back and those are the people who should be ENCOURAGED to go to school. mclean is right but the question still has to be asked, how is keeping convicted users away from student loans helping the system out??? who is this helping??? this doesnt seem like something that was implemented to make ANYTHING better for ANYBODY.

I BET A CONVICTED CHILD MOLESTER CAN GET A STUDENT LOAN.

I BET A CONVICTED RAPIST CAN GET A LOAN.

I BET MURDERER CAN GET A STUDENT LOAN.

i hope not though.

no1 says you cant you can still pick up in school where you left off.

just be prepared to pay for it yourself instead of getting a government hand-out.
