Cuz i know this rap shit aint ever gonna amount to anything. and while i'm still young and strong i might as well try to make big bucks on the sea, this show hella inspired me to become and Alaskian Crab Catcher.

My favorite thing about the show is how all episodes are virtually the same exact shit - looking for crabs, cant find any, weather is bad, crew is bitchy, wait, we found crabs!, a member of the crew gets upset about something, captain yells...

I respect those people though, it's a tough life. My pops knows pretty much all of those guys on the show and one of the captains (blond hair guy cant recall his name) used to send my pops huge boxes full of king crab legs every year for work my pops did for all of their navigational systems on the boats. That lasted for like 5 years, the best crab int he world without question, legs nearly as thick as your wrist

Yeah, my roommate watches that show and it's interesting for a few episodes and then I'd be like "didn't you watch this one a few weeks ago" and he'd be like "nah, it's the new episode."

lol

But yeah I've had some friends who do that shit and it's a really tough job.

^^do you have to be trained prior to going on board? I always thought it just showin up at the dock and tryin to get on a boat as a greenhorn, i remember that one dude that showed up and got out there in the bering sea and totally flipped out and had to be brought back to land...

I read online on alaskanjobfinder, that you need at least 6 months of training on a boat before you can even be a greenhorn on a crab boat.

RIP Phil Harris captain of the "Deadliest Catch" fishing vessel Cornelia Marie

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100210/ap_on_en_tv/us_obit_capt_phil_harris

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Discovery Channel says the captain of the "Deadliest Catch" fishing vessel Cornelia Marie has died.

Capt. Phil Harris suffered what his family described as a massive stroke on Jan. 29 while the boat was in port at St. Paul Island, Alaska. The 53-year-old fisherman was flown to Anchorage for surgery.

A Discovery spokesman says the Harris family contacted the network Tuesday evening with word of his death.

Discovery Channel spokeswoman Elizabeth Hillman issued a statement on behalf of sons Jake and Josh Harris. It says in part, "It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad — Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end."

In the network's own statement, Hillman says, "We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart."

In an e-mail she said no additional information was immediately available.

The Discovery Channel reality show depicts the crab fishing industry in the dangerous waters off Alaska. Harris' fishing vessel was based in Seattle.
