just my two cents.
To my knowledge, which goes from going to concerts to going to Ramon Ayala's ranch near Sanger,(oh and aint no bragging, if anyone knew about Ramon Ayala you would know he isn't on some celebraty better than everyone type, I got invited cause I went out with some distant relative of his) but the man is strictly a back up voice. he is the mutha fuckin king of the accordian plus he can take another persons song and make it sound hella good(I didn't say better cause to me that is not posible but his added accordian skills just sometimes make the song different) cause his accordian skills.
Oh and vicente is a legend in his own right, alot a people say that he shouldn't get the recognition he gets cause his most popular songs are remakes but his voice is legendary. And he is one of the only people that can do classics justice. Unlike Lupillo or other fools that try to make a career off of covers.

right now i dont know because i havent been listening to his music much lately. to me it has tailed off quite a bit.

and when he first started his group "Ramon Ayala Y Los Bravos Del Norte" he was the back up and Eliseo Robles was the lead.
he has since to the best of my knowledge gone through at least a couple other lead singers in his group

because it was his group. because he was the big name. he was the famous guy. he was the other half of the recently split "los Relampagos".
but he was never known for his singing. he was/is the master accordian player. and when he split for Cornelio Reyna and broke up los relampagos he created his own group "Ramon Ayala Y Los Bravos del Norte" but he needed a lead singer.
