me too, there are a lot of them
sometimes i get the feeling that all you have to do is proclaim yourself something and people agree

ex:
jayz - best rapper alive
lil wayne - best rapper alive since the best rapper retired
ti - king of the south

lil scrappy on one of the beef movies said ti is the king because he said so and no one that has contested has been able to de-throne him...
And if u were to dispute that and try to disprove it with a battle or something, people would say that you're hating.

Jay-Z isnt even a great lyricist to me. I never saw the hype with this dude...
i didn't really appreciate Jay-Z music too much till I seen him live. I think his lyrics are very well written. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though. Im a post 2 verses to see if you think they're weak lyrically.

Jay-Z]
Holla at me...
I do this for my culture
To let 'em know what a nigga look like, when a nigga in a roaster
Show 'em how to move in a room full of vultures
Industry shady it need to be taken over
Label owners hate me I'm raisin the status quo up
I'm overchargin niggaz for what they did to the Cold Crush
Pay us like you owe us for all the years that you hoed us
We can talk, but money talks so talk mo' bucks

[Chorus]

[Jay-Z]
Yeah...
Hov' is back, life stories told through rap
Niggaz actin like I sold you crack
Like I told you sell drugs; no, Hov' did that
so hopefully you won't have to go through that
I was raised in the pro-jects, roaches and rats
Smokers out back, sellin they mama's sofa
Lookouts on the corner, focused on the ave
Ladies in the window, focused on the kinfolk
Me under a lamp post, why I got my hand closed?
Cracks in my palm, watchin the long arm of the law
So you know I seen it all before
I seen hoop dreams deflate like a true fiend's weight
To try and to fail, the two things I hate
Succeed in this rap game, the two things that's great
H to the izz-O, V to the izz-A
What else can I say about dude, I gets bu-sy

[Chorus]

I think these are sick lyrics for such a catchy single.

I think his lyrics are very well written.

You know he never wrote a rhyme since he been out don't you?

What makes him great is he listens to the beat with the producer right there in the studio then less then a hour later he jumps in the booth and knocks a whole track chrous and all out in one take. Now that takes a skilled mofo. Thats more of the reason why they call him the best its more from a work ethnic and modern day standard

Well yeah i know that but he is writing them in his head. He's not freestyling his lyrics he just ain't writing them on paper. How would you know how long it takes him to do a track though? You been in the studio with Jigga?

I think I checked out a Crooked I song before but i sort of can't remember honestly. I think it was one of those hip hop weekly joints. But I don't think he can be compared to JayZ until he drops an album. JayZ is a certified hit maker and Crooked doesn't even have 1 album. Why doesn't he atleast drop an inderpendent lp? Strange.

exactly, Young Cutthroat=best designer alive

when i compare rappers, i dont take shit like album sales, production, wardrobe, swag, or any shit like that into account

i think crooked will get jay bar for bar

I think Crook is a good rapper, while Jay is a very good artist.Jay does a lot with a beat. i have never been a huge fan of his but you cant deny his skills. i think American Gangster is what really made me a Hov fan all over again

I think a lot of rappers sound like they're trying too hard to be clever and that's what Crooked I comes off as sometimes to me.. not all the time.

Xzibit comes off the same way to me in his last few albums...

trying to spit hard and spitting hard are two different things.

Jay-Z doesn't sound like that, neither does 50 Cent for that matter... I think that's why they sell so much because it doesn't sound like they're trying to kill every bar, but make good bars into a good song.... just my opinion
