Which I completely believe.
Hyphy was great for its purpose ( I hated it but loved the Bay's recognition )...I will gladly admit it. Mac Dre and Thizz, Keak, my dude's Hoodstarz, Killa Keise, 40 and Turf, Clyde, Federation, etc...they brought back "THE BAY" with the whole "HYPHY" movement. But honestly, as a dude that helped bring "The Bay Underground" back with my homeboys D-Sharpe, DjMark7 and Dj Amen...I won't speak for them but I could not stand the fact that everyone jumped on the bandwagon ( I.E. the veterans who were known for their certain genre of music that NO ONE could compete with )...
Back in the early 90's, the MOBB sound was prevalent. Sure, SF, Oakland, Vallejo, Richmond, Sac, Marin, etc all took on the sound...but at least people were original with the music. Nowadays, everyone wants the same beats...why would anyone want to buy your album if every Bay album sounds the same???
Don't get me wrong, when Clyde Carson came out with his strong original single, I was very proud of him and we at Hot 98.7 tried to play the hell out of his song ( of course, people tried to copy his style which was gay ). When Fed Gang came out with their shit, we ( Street Beat ) were very proud and happily played his shit. But now it seems like EVERYONE and their drunken Momma wants to copy shit and hope to be played.
In the early 90's, sure, everyone's shit had the same Mobb vibe...however, everyone came with their own version. Cougnut and C-Fresh ( aka IMP "Ill Mannered Posse ) had the most vicious gangster shit, the homeboy Black C and Mr. Cee (RIP) had that new RBL POSSE sound out of Frisco, JT and Quinn had that distinct Fillmore sound out of ( of course ) Fillmore...The Killahoe's had their own sound - UDI, Cold World, 11/5, Dush Tray...Vallejo had ( of course ) E-40, B-La, Lil Bruce, Celly Cell, Young D Boyz, Jay Tee and N2Deep, etc...
I ( again, MY PERSONAL BELIEF ) believe that Hyphy has served it's purpose in the fact that it has garnished veterans their proper rankings - however, I am ashamed at the few veterans who have sold out to be accepted by the new generation. Your fan base is still there...please focus on making your original fan base happy and you should have newfound success.
The one group that I really appreciate ( and honestly, I don't even like their music but I completely dig their hustle and they are cool as shit in person ) is THE PACK. Them Youngsters did what they felt was cool at the time and as a rock dude, I swear I get many white rock dudes asking about them all the time. God bless them and I wish the best of luck to their career.
Again, that is just Mr. Illmannered's opinion. If anyone feels the need to fight me, hit me on the PM hahahahahaha
God bless.
