no community college withing 100 miles that i know of has anything music related. there is one school (international college of broadcasting) i checked out but 9000 dollars for an 8 month program was out of my budget. i checked out what their graduates were doing and i wasnt real impressed. i guess ill just keep hitting the web up.

OK, SO IF I RECORDED IT AND WAS COMPENSATED BY COPYRIGHT OWNERSHIP, THE PUBLISHING WOULD STILL BELONG TO THE ARTIST NO MATTER WHAT?

QUOTE::: And in that scenario.....you would own the copyrights.....the publishing would be per agreement

PLEASE ELABORATE IF TIME ALLOWS
Publishing belongs to the writer(s) of the music and lyrics. Copyrights are one thing.....publishing is another. You might own the song or sound recording.....but when it comes to publishing.....whoever wrote the song gets that income. UNLESS......there is some sort of written agreement between you and the writers where they have signed it saying that they're giving them up to you......or you're splitting the money.

More than likely though.....you're not even in a position to really worry about about publishing yet. You're not gettin' any radio play.....you're not having shit printed up or sold to get mechanicals. So if I was you......I wouldn't worry about it till you get to that level of the game. In the meantime.....educate yourself about it. Their are lots of websites that discuss it......and I also have an article that I just posted on my board a few days ago that discusses publishing as well......you should go read it. It's on the Street Level Records board......I can't remember if you've been on it before?
