Player Notes:

• F John Salmons got his first start as a member of the Bulls in Charlotte but probably played his worst game. He hit 4-of-13 shots for nine points after averaging 15.0 points in the first five games with his new team.

• F Tyrus Thomas was the one Bulls player who got off to a decent start in the loss to the Bobcats, but he couldn’t sustain the effort. He scored 10 points in the first quarter and finished with 14 for the game.

• G Derrick Rose has struggled badly during two games in Charlotte this season. He’s hit just 6-of-27 shots in the two contests but did manage to score 13 points in Tuesday’s loss.

THE BIG Homie Jo was shittin out there tonight, they had no inside presence and were just jackin up shots. Everytime we need the W we get it, but we never play to our potential against bad teams. Milwaukee lost so were still in the hunt.

Practice helps Noah find stroke at free-throw line

March 6, 2009
BY JOHN JACKSON [email protected]

The release still looks like a high-five gone wrong, and the ball continues to flutter toward the basket with an odd sideways spin.

But no one is making fun of Joakim Noah's funky free-throw attempts these days.
Joakim Noah has made 14 straight free throws.

Although he is shooting only 63.4 percent from the line for the season, Noah has made 14 straight free throws in the last three games, including an impressive 8-for-8 in the Bulls' 110-88 rout of Golden State on Wednesday.

If you go back six games, Noah is 23-for-25, a 92 percent clip.

Noah credits the work he has put in with assistant coach Dave Severns.

''We've worked on them every day after practice, and it's paying off,'' Noah said.

Noah's scoring has been up as of late, but he sees a need for more growth.

''I still have a long way to go offensively,'' he said. ''This summer it's definitely going to be a big focus of mine, polishing my moves and getting stronger.''
Big game

With 20 regular-season games remaining for the Bulls, the game tonight against Milwaukee at the United Center is far from a must-win for either team. The teams are tied for eighth place in the Eastern Conference, so there's plenty of time to make up for a loss.

But most of the Bulls' players consider it crucial. A victory would give them a tiebreaker against the Bucks after the Bulls won two of the previous three meetings.

''It's our biggest game because it's our next game,'' Noah said. ''At the same time, we're tied with Milwaukee for the eighth spot, [and] there's also the history with coach [Scott] Skiles being here. It's a big game, and we're excited about it.''
Injury updates

Barring a miracle recovery, forward Luol Deng will miss his third straight game tonight with a bruised right tibia or minor stress fracture (depending on whom you ask). Although Deng is listed as day-to-day, realistically the earliest he might return is the middle of next week.
