River Jude Phoenix (August 23, 1970 – October 31, 1993) was an American film actor and teen icon. He was the oldest brother of actors Rain, Joaquin, Liberty, and Summer Phoenix.

On October 31, 1993, Phoenix died of a drug overdose on the sidewalk outside the West Hollywood nightclub the Viper Room.

At some point in the evening, Phoenix went to the bathroom to take drugs with various friends and dealers. It is frequently reported that an acquaintance or dealer offered him Persian Brown (a powerful form of heroin mixed with methamphetamine,[23] which is commonly snorted); his autopsy report revealed lethal doses of cocaine, morphine (heroin metabolizes to morphine and shows up as such in the blood), as well as diazepam, ephedrine and marijuana.Soon after consuming a combination of heroin and cocaine he became ill, and somebody reportedly gave him diazepam, as it is commonly used to counter-act the effects of a stimulant overdose. However, because he had consumed heroin the treatment is thought to have been counter productive, as diazepam further enhances the effects of heroin.During the early morning hours of October 31, 1993, Phoenix collapsed outside the club from a drug overdose of heroin and cocaine (known as a speedball) further amplified by the administration of diazepam. He convulsed for five minutes. When his brother Joaquin called 9-1-1, he was unable to determine whether River was breathing. Sister Rain Phoenix proceeded to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, to no avail.

SANTA MONICA -- Actor Charlie Sheen has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. and "Two and a Half Men" show creator Chuck Lorre.

According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in Santa Monica, Sheen is demanding he get paid for the eight scrapped show episodes from this season. He is also asking for $100 million in punitive damages on behalf of the show's cast and crew.

Sheen lawyer Marty Singer drafted the suit. Singer wrote, in part: "Chuck Lorre, one of the richest men in television who is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, believes himself to be so wealthy and powerful that he can unilaterally decide to take money away from the dedicated cast and crew of the popular television series, 'Two and a Half Men,' in order to serve his own ego and self-interest, and make the star of the Series the scapegoat for Lorre's own conduct."

The suit alleges that the cancellation is based on "Warner Bros. capitulating to Lorre's egotistical desire to punish Mr. Sheen ..."

It further claims there was a conspiracy between Lorre and Warner Bros. to blame Sheen for the show's demise.

Singer writes that the decision to cancel the rest of the current season was made before Sheen's outburst criticizing Lorre.

Instead, Singer alleges Lorre wanted time to work on other shows, and also hated Sheen.

Finally, the suit claims the studio fired Charlie when he was sick, and that's a violation of state and federal law.

Warner Bros. made the decision to fire Sheen on Monday.

"After careful consideration, Warner Bros. Television has terminated Charlie Sheen's services on 'Two and a Half Men' effective immediately," the studio said in a statement.

In an 11-page letter, attorneys for Warner Bros. said Sheen was being fired because in recent months he had been forgetting lines, turning up late or missing rehearsals and made "comments poisoning key working relationships."

Sheen responded with his own statement.

"It is a big day of gladness at the Sober Valley Lodge because now I can take all of the bazillions, never have to look at whatshiscock again and I never have to put on those silly shirts for as long as this warlock exists in the terrestrial dimension," Sheen said in a statement. His lawyers said they planned to sue Warner Bros. Television.

A spokesman for Warner Bros. Television said on Monday that no decision had been made about the future of "Two and A Half Men."

Sheen had a contract with the TV show that runs through to the end of the 2012 TV season.

CBS and Warner Brothers released a statement last week saying that the studio would not be producing new shows for the remainder of the year.

There was still no word on whether the sitcom would return to production without Sheen, although there are rumors about the possibility of another actor being brought in to replace Sheen.
