He's a legend in the UK. Really, I can't think of any other fighter in the world where 20,000+ people would travel over seas to watch that person fight.
When Ricky fought in Vegas the town would literally be filled with 20,000+ drunk ass British fans. That's crazy

20,000 poms with nothing better to do, flying across the world with their best currency, to get drunk and watch ricky fatton snort an eight ball, doesn't really make him a legend though..
He is a decent fighter though, just not legend status.
^^yeah but he got humiliated. basically proved that he has no place being compared to elites. same like what happened with prince hamed.
i just hated his style. he was a smothering boxer. his bouts always consisted of hella hugging and locking cause he would pretty much just keep throwing his entire body into the opponent.
just by watching some tape im sure freddy roach knew it was gonna be a walk in the park for pac. and as much of a pussy as mayweather is, he does know what he's doing in the ring so the bout was a breeze for him too..its not like may would agree to fight somebody that could actually beat him..
i think part of the uk obsession with him was that he was a very down to earth and humble guy. he didnt let fame get to his head and would show up at local pubs like normal and share beers (and probably lines) with the locals and the brits loved that about him.

Name one fighter past or present where 20,000+ people would travel across seas just to watch that person fight.
Whether or not you liked Hatton he was the man at 140 pounds. He was the lineal champion after he beat Kostya Tszyu. Hatton is 43-1 at 140 pounds (his other loss against FLoyd was at 147 which was too big for him imo).
He was a bit overrated, not arguing that, but as far as UK boxers go he's one of the greats and he's a walk in for the hall of fame.
