I can swim like, a dozen different ways. I don't hit the water too often though, I prefer to get my exercise in the gym or on the ball court. I'll sometimes swim in pools on my days off the gym to help heal muscle fatigue. But as far as lakes, oceans, rivers go- I've swam in all of them at distances at some point in my life. I almost drown one day after I hit 500 sit ups, 300 push ups, 300 squats, 4 miles of running and then stupidly jumped in a 22 foot deep river trying to swim a quarter mile. Would have been cool if I didn't factor in all the cargo ships off in the distance making the water real choppy. Adrenaline saved my life that time. Most certainly a near-death experience.
