SACRAMENTO (AP) ― California has a New Year's resolution for motorists: Keep your hands on the wheel and off that text-messaging device.

A bill making it an infraction to write, send or read a text message while driving is among dozens of California laws that take effect Thursday.

Other new statutes will set up a state certification system for massage therapists, impose new safety requirements for wave pools, provide additional safeguards against misleading sweepstakes pitches and ensure gender equality when married couples pick a last name.

Also taking effect are laws regulating pet shops, banning a chemical commonly used in children's toys and making it tougher for teachers who commit sex crimes to stay in the classroom.

I honestly don't see why this is even a law but along of the lines of common sense... I know I've done this a few times but with the iPhone fuck I just gave up, before I could feel the buttons

There are already people out there on the road who can't drive for shit. The last thing we need are those people with an extra distraction.

lol for real, like the lil tennybopper bitch in her moms bmw that almost hit me while she was yappin on her phone. i think cali should have an IQ/ gender test. the worst drivers i have seen on the road are young girls/ old ladys, each will come to complete stop to make a simple turn.

I cant do it anyway ever since I got the Iphone, its hella hard to text with that thing.
I used to be able to drive and text hella easy with my old phone though the verizon env.

i think this should have been outlawed before tlaking on the phone. its much more distracting. i be texting on the freeway trying to type long ass messages then i look up and bam theres a car right in front of me. scary. never happened while i was talking on the phone though. talking on the phone is more dangerous on city streets.
