I know and I know. The who buys the albums question is irrelevent as to who the actual artists are, and your second point proves my point even more. If there's only so much room (Eminem, ....not much more) in the rap game for white folks and most of the rappers out here are white then that exponentially decreases our people's odds. It's like everybody out here is going for 1 or 2 spots out of 100 (when even the odds of going for 98 spots out of 100 are slim). NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

As for the black dudes that are from here rapping, they're hurt immensely by where they're from.

People, don't worry about our guys blowing up, it is not going to happen, just appreciate the great music some of them make and be thankful you found them. This is the realization I've come to, it's less depressing than the COLD HARD FACTS.

Too small and too white. You don't go to Nigeria looking for Chinese food....
^^^ I mostly agree about the geographical part...and PLUS THA NIGGAZ THAT IS UP HERE IS NOT UNITED..BUT....on the other hand I do think there is artists who kan blow up....It doesnt matter where you are from if u make quality music...Blowing up also has different standards...some want to put tha Gangsta shit on the map...some want the real hip-hop shit on the map..so it all depends...but I know in my city we have alot brewing...not to say Seattle doesnt have anyone because Im sure there is a bunch of talent in seattle...but Seattle..Portland...B.C..Boise we need to come together fa real

^ I'm glad you understand the angle I'm coming from. I wish it wasn't true but it is.

As for your part about the quality music, I really really wish that was true but I don't think it is. Reason being is because there is so much incredible music that has come from the area in the last 5 years and ain't none of them blowing up.

Music is art, not like sports. Sports, the scouts will scour the backroads of wherever to find people. Guys from metropolises and towns of less than 500 people make it big, there are measurables such as a 90 mph fastball or a 4.40 40-yard dash that can transcend geography. Music is like art, it is so incredibly impossible to measure quality, it is so varied in taste and opinion. With music you need the product and a lot more such as an image and networks, in sports you just need the product. In short, with any art form, the artist is at the mercy of a lot of forces he can't control.

The quality music is there and has been there for awhile, I realize that everyday as I bump some of the hottest tracks ever made anywhere. But these guys ain't making bread off of this yet, and the geographical shit I think is one of the major things holding them down.

Houston blew cause people HUSTLE their asses off. Swishahouse was puttin out fucking mixtapes every TWO WEEKS. NOBODY around here does that. Let alone even once every few months. If people wanna blow up, their asses need to be in the fucking studio recording or on the streets grindin. Music has to be your life if you want to do shit. If it's a hobby get the fuck out of the way cause it's only holding back people who really have skill/talent/drive. 95% of artists in the NW don't push their product. They think it's gonna do it by itself...NEWS FLASH-you are fucking retarded if you think this. 99% of artists in the NW have SHITTY advertising/marketing skills if they do it themselves and most labels don't know how to fucking promote/advertise either. There is a right and wrong way to do things, and so far I'd say most people aren't doing shit the right way. People think they know what they are talking about and think they know what they are doing, but it's because they think it's easy when it's not. Advertising isn't just having some fliers and passing them out, it's fuckin plastering your town and surrouding areas with every piece of promotional shit you have. I'd be suprised if most artists new what a target audience is and that there is actual research that is done for that shit.

I think the people w/ the most potential to do somethin are Neema, 151, and Byrdie. Although, I'd like to see several others on that list as well, as of right now it ain't gonna happen, at least not on a national level.

bottom line is, you have to generate interest in the area. we have it backwards and are trying to generate interest to each other. You have to make the powers that be want to come and pluck talent from the talent pool. that aint happening. you can sell a record to 5000 cats around here. but that is as far as you are gonna get. you need to get outta town and campaign.

"Alot of NW artists are in Demo-tape mode"-Jumbo of the Lifesavas

I agree wit sixxness..we say we want the spotlight...but evryone in the NW is not on the same page...when it gets there then we have a chance to shine!

How Bout it, ha.....

thats an excellent point, once you get the backing from the city and the music is quality, catchy and ear grabbing.....you now have a base to catapult from......then you can maneuver from the ghetto streets to executive suites......I personally don't think it has to do with the Black population rate, Rap/hip hop, is not just for us anymore.......it is in it's own right a corporate entity.......whats gonna make it happen is Money.......Money behind quality projects, otherwise it's gonna remain local/underground......Seattle in it's own right can push Gangster rap acts, cuz we got that....ask C-bo, Master P, and anybody from the Bay....it goes down.....we can push back pack rap cuz mayn we got that....sheit Boom Bap project got a damn ad in the Source, How Bout it.........Thangs is gonna crack all my fellow independent rap hustlaz, keep grinding mayn.......cuz they can't stop the sun from shinning........

That's the single handed most racist thing I've ever heard in my life. These muthafuckaz out here are going to respect my talent regardless of the color of my skin. Period. I gives a fuck about the color of a persons skin. What I really care about is how much of a shit bag someone is or isn't. Problem out here is I come across more sacks of shit who don't stand for anything than any other place I've ever been to in my life. Seattle is full of haters, end of story.

So Sixxness, do you know how to promote/advertise the right way?
Yeah, actually I do. I'm minoring in advertising and sociology and majoring in broadcast journalism. I did an advertising campaign for Mo-X & Lil' G's next album, I just haven't gotten it back yet from my professor. However, since I don't think you were asking me out of genuine curiosity, the prof did tell me that it was one of the best campaigns for music he has seen, and he owns his own advertising agency.

I wish that was true but I don't think it is. I really like your album, "Worst of the Worst" excellent track with a very very creative idea to hate on yourself like that before the real haters can. I love several cuts on the Mo-X & Lil' G album. I really wish your statement was true but I don't think it is.

My opinions have really been formed since I moved out of the Northwest (for 9 months of the year). I've shown people out here your music and your album cover, same with a bunch of SLR products, same with the sickest whiteboy in the history of rap music (Anonimous aka THA LOCO). The folks just are not having it, seeing folks on the cover who don't look the part. I wish it wasn't true but it is. It's a goddamn shame because nobody can help what race they are, there's nothing you can do.

Again the 'quality music will make it' argument doesn't work for people on this board because if they are on this board in the first place, they believe there is quality hip-hop coming out of the Northwest. The quality music has been there for awhile, so unless some of these guys we talk about have 'made it', then I don't see how the quality music argument works BECAUSE IT IS THERE.
