^ Do it! You won't have to deal with all of the mega fight prices, but you'll still get the Vegas fight weekend electricity! Definitely an experience worth paying for, seriously nothing like it.

I can totally afford $25 haha.

HBO bought the fight for just over $2 million. Gamboa is one crazy dude if he's going up two weight classes to fight a beast like Rios for a million bucks, when that's around what he makes normally for fighting regular guys in his division.

I think he's ready for his shining moment and ready to make a splash. How do you do that? Move up two divisions and take on (and beat) a monster like Rios.

I love Gamboa for taking this one.

If he wins he'll be in the top 10 pound 4 pound I promise that.

But I'm getting a head of myself. Still a huge chance Rios will just simply be too big. If so I can bet he'll fight Mike Alvarado next at 140, and assuming he wins, Pacquiao.

People don't realize it yet but this fight will change the landscape of boxing for the next 1-2 years. Kinda like how Cotto-Margarito changed everything.

This fight can change the landscape of Top Rank fighters and making a new cashcow for the company. Whoever wins the fight will get a big push from Arum and HBO hype.

I'm expecting about a 3-1 favorite.

It's not too often a guy jumps two weight classes and beats the best fighter in that weight class. Very rare. I can think of Hopkins moving up from middleweight to light heavy and beat tarver (tarver was a 4-1 favorite). Pac vs Oscar obviously, I believe Oscar was about a 3-1 favorite.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: BRANDON RIOS
By John McCormick

JM: It was just announced recently that boxing fans will be given the privilege of seeing you step into the ring with Yuriokis Gamboa on April 14th. How important is this fight to your career? I am looking forward to this fight. This is the fight that I have been waiting for. I am ready to step up to the next level and I have never been more excited in my life.

JM: What do you think of Gamboa as a fighter?
Brandon Rios: Gamboa is very skillful. He did well in the amateurs and he is very skillful. He is a talented kid but he hasn't fought anybody like me. I will repeat that and say he hasn't fought anybody like me. I will be ready for everything he brings.

JM: What do you think of his power? Do you plan on using the same game plan that you use in most of your fights, by taking what he has and then seeing if he can take what you have?
Brandon Rios: It will be the same game plan. I walk through everybody. I know he has power, but I am not worrying about that shit. He should be worried about how I execute and how my power and strength is. I am going to be ready for him and for whatever he brings to the table.

JM: I recently saw the short piece HBO did on your attempt to make weight for the John Murray fight. What are some things you are doing or plan on doing to make sure that type of thing doesn't happen again?
Brandon Rios: I will make lightweight with no problem. When I fought John Murray, I wasn't eating right and I tried to take the weight off too quick. Now, I am eating right and training steady. I wont have any problem making weight and I will feel strong in the ring.

JM: After the fight with Murray, you started working with Victor Conte. What are your thoughts on working with him so far?
Brandon Rios: Working with Victor Conte has helped a lot. Victor called my Cameron and told him what to do right away, and it worked. I have no worries that he is going to do anything dirty, and if they want me to take any type of drug test or whatever than I am ready. They have a needle and I have an arm, and we can do whatever they want. Victor Conte has been great so far and I know he will continue to help us out a lot.

JM: Give us a prediction for how April 14th is going to play out.
Brandon Rios: Well you know what, I am going to be ready to go twelve rounds. But to me honestly, I don't think it is going to go twelve rounds. I will be ready for twelve but I don't think it will.

JM: Any closing thoughts for the fans?
Brandon Rios: To all my fans and everyone that has supported me thank you guys for watching. As far as my haters, keep hating and if not hate more!

Rumor alert! (if this is true I will personally assassinate bob arum)

Rumor in Miami is that Gamboa-Rios might be in Jeopardy
Earlier this week Rey Sanchez (Boxing journalist who has his on website and has done work with boxingscene) hinted in a spanish message board that the Gamboa-Rios fight was anything but set in stone. Even though he did not give any details he mentioned it. Just last night Andres PAscual who is another boxing journalist out of miami and does not work with rey wrote a spanish article stating that Bob Arum is having second thoughts about giving Gamboa the Rios fight. According to Pascual Gamboa's Top Rank contract is expiring soon and Arum is not fond of giving gamboa this fight unless he knows for sure that Gamboa will sign an extension with Top Rank. This was not an issue at first when the contracts were signed but word has gotten to Arum lately that there is a strong possibility that Gamboa might join mayweather/Golden boy. With that being said I really hope that this is not true and just a false rumor.

Rios (29-0-1, 22 KOs), the former WBA lightweight champion, from Oxnard, Calif., enters this fight having won 10 of his previous 11 fights by knockout. Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs), the former world featherweight champion who won Olympic gold in 2004 for his native Cuba and now resides in Miami, Fla., will return to the ring having won eight of his previous 11 by stoppage. In short, these warriors have never met a chin they didn’t want to smash.

Alvarado (32-0, 23 KOs) of Denver, has won 10 of his last 12 bouts by stoppage en route to a career-high No. 3 world rating, in the World Boxing Organization (WBO). Notable knockout victims include Breidis Prescott, Ray Narh, Emmanuel Clottey and Cesar Bazan. Herrera (18-1, 7 KOs), from Lake Elsinore, Calif., enters this fight riding a two-year, five-bout winning streak, highlighted by victories over Ruslan Provodnikov (17-0) and Mike Dallas, Jr. (17-1-1). Herrera is currently world-rated No. 7 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

"Rios and Gamboa are two young and hungry fighters in their prime looking to make a leap to stardom," said Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank.

“Gamboa has been constantly referred to as a ‘rising Cuban star’ throughout his career. But on April 14, the word ‘rising’ will finally be eliminated. Gamboa will be a superstar,” said Ahmet Öner, president of Arena Box US. “Gamboa is so special and though he has been fighting at 126 pounds, 135 pounds is where he belongs. He will be so much stronger fighting at lightweight.”

"Brandon Rios versus Yuriorkis Gamboa is a spectacular fight and we're excited to present this showdown live on HBO World Championship Boxing," said Kery Davis, Senior Vice President, Programming, HBO Sports. "Both fighters deserve recognition for stepping up and saying 'let's do it.' "
