Boxing period ain't what it used to be. It's so corrupted and almost every main event is a Don King Production. I think with shit like Pride and UFC it won't get any better. The talent pool is getting more shallow every year. I remember getting pumped for heavy weight fights, now I couldn't name 2 of the top 10 ranked fighters in the class.

Salido fails steroid test!
IBF featherweight champion Orlando Salido, who dethroned Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero this past Saturday, has tested positive for steroids. Salido has 20 days to respond. If he contests the result, he'll be required to attend a hearing in Las Vegas where the outcome of the fight would likely be changed to a no-contest. As a result, Guerrero could be reinstated as champion or at the very least get an immediate title shot. “I hit this guy with some nice shots early in the fight and he didn’t budge," said Guererro. "Usually when I hit guys with shots like that, they slow down. It had me thinking. It’s sad that he had to go to desperate measures in order to compete with me. I just thank Jesus Christ for coming out of this fight unharmed. The Nevada Athletic Commission is doing a great job because everyone who steps in the ring puts their life on the line. I’m just happy that my next fight will be a world championship fight. I’m fighting at the elite level in boxing and it’s a shame that Salido would have to use steroids to compete."

Salido steroid test NEGATIVE!

Former champion wants IBF featherweight title reinstated

November 27, 2006

By Mack Danife

"I said I never took steroids or any performance enhancing drugs and the lab tests prove it," states Orlando Salido. The saga of Salido continues as the NSAC reviews its findings. After the November 4 IBF title bout in Las Vegas against Robert Guerrero, Salido tested positive for the substance nandrolone in his system. Salido immediately had a follow up test at LabCorp, a nationally recognized blood lab, and the findings were NEGATIVE of any steroids.

"It is commonly known that nandrolone is produced by the body, especially in periods when the body is placed in stressful activity like dehydration, diet and strenuous exercise," said a doctor who wishes to be unnamed until formal proceedings.

"If Salido had taken steroids, his second test done only one day after NSAC findings would have shown it still in its system. Steroids don't go away overnight! The fact that the system was clean only strengthens the argument that his body produced the chemical and then went back to a normal state once Salido was no longer training or in a state of dehydration," added the same doctor.

From his camp Salido stated, "I am very concerned that my image of a professional athlete has been severely tarnished from the accusation."

And to fuel the fire, Salido is bristling over a quote attributed to Guerrero. "The Ghost" was quoted as saying, "I'm fighting at the elite level in boxing and it's a shame that Salido would have to use steroids to compete."

Salido angerly responds, "I said it before and I say it again, I don't need to trade words with Guerrero. I traded punches and he lost decisively and now he is using words to attack me. What kind of fighter does that? It's a deplorable act of disrespect and goes without honor!

"Guerrero would like nothing more than for me to go away due to an allegation, an allegation that I proved wrong through a blood test!

"I won the title, I will keep the title and if Guerrero wants another beating he can call my manager. For the sake of his health and safety, I highly discourage it. Please stay at home. It's must safer than in a ring with a real champion!"

The commission also temporarily suspended Orlando Salido of Mexico after he tested positive for the banned steroid Nandrolone after his Nov. 4 unanimous decision over IBF featherweight champ Robert Guerrero, 23, of Gilroy, Calif.

Salido faces a one-year suspension and up to a $250,000 fine, although Kizer said the commission would consider fining Salido only the $17,500 he was paid for the fight.

Salido also will have a formal hearing, probably in January.
