He's trying to fight at 168 my god trips @trips you're sounding worse than CZAR right now.

Chavez was offered a guarantee by Top Rank, not HBO. Because that was going to be on US PPV. It was $7m guarantee, not $10m and HBO wouldn't have spent a dime on the purse. Obviously Chavez was a much bigger attraction than Froch at the time.

If Golovkin and Froch fight on PPV, how many PPVs you think it would sell in the US? 250k tops? That doesn't equal a $10m payday for Froch.

The only way it would work is to sell it in the UK. That would be on Hearn to set up a UK PPV, get Wembley stadium, etc. HBO doesn't sell PPVs in the UK man.

Bottom line is Golovkin is reaching out to Froch. They've also reached out to Froch before and after his Groves fights and Froch flat out said he wanted no part of Golovkin. From Froch and Hearn's own mouth:

Hearn July 2014:
“When I tell you Froch-Golovkin is not HBO pay-per-view, it’s not my opinion, it’s what we’ve been told,” Hearn said to IFL TV. “It fact. I think I know better and it’s not. So Froch-Chavez is [pay-per-view]. Froch has made comments about staying away from Golovkin. It’s a very dangerous fight."

Hearn August 2014:
"There is not 10 million in the pot to tempt the likes of Cotto or Chavez to fight him, which is the sum they’d want for that kind of fight. It’s definitely a career-threatening fight. Yes, Froch is financially comfortable, but that doesn’t mean he’ll get in the ring for less than he deserves, and that is a horrible, dangerous fight."

Froch when asked if he would want to fight Golovkin in July 2014:

“Just swerve Golovkin like the plague. He punches like a mule. I don’t need to be in with him. Dangerous fight,” Froch, who is in a higher weight division than Golovkin said

Froch January 2015:
"People talk about [Gennady] Golovkin. He’s not PPV. They talk about Andre Ward, I don’t want to fight Andre Ward. He will probably beat me on points.”

So who is protecting who again?

Now, if Froch wants to retire if he doesn't get $10m that's fine, but don't accuse HBO and Golovkin for not making the fight when CLEARLY it's an unrealistic demand.

porter100By Allan Fox: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) says he’s ready to chase down Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) and force him to fight in their catch-weight fight at 144 pounds this month on June 20th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner isn’t much of a runner so it’s hard to understand where Porter is coming from in saying he’s going to chase him down if he has to. Broner will likely be stationary and fighting behind his normal shoulder roll defense.

It’s going to be a tough job for Porter because Broner seems to have improved with his defensive skills, and he’s not going to make it easy for him to land his shots.

“There is no animosity coming from me. I keep a level head and stay poised at all times,” Porter said to Thaboxingvoice.com. “He’s walking into a lion’s den. You get in the ring with a lion, and you can only run for so long.”

Porter needs Broner to stand still for him so that he can get his shots off. In Porter’s loss last year to Kell Brook from Britain, Brook was able to tie Porter up frequently to smother his offense. The referee failed to do anything about Brook’s holding, and this left Porter to try and beat Brook from the outside. Porter didn’t have the arm length and a good enough outside game to do the job. It was still a very close fight. Some fans feel that it was one-sided with Brook easily winning, but the fight was definitely very close. If Brook could have done just a little more, he would have won the fight. His mistake was not fighting through the clinches to get his shots off. Porter would just give up each time Brook would grab him. Smart fighters know to fight through the clinches by hitting with their free hand or wrestling out of the clinches to continue to fight on the inside.

If Broner decides to use the blueprint that Brook created in how to beat Porter, then it’s going to put Porter in a situation where he’s going to need to adapt or else he’ll lose another fight.

Broner has looked good recently in beating John Molina, Emmanuel Taylor and Carlos Molina in his last three fights. He’s really turned his career around since suffering a 12 round unanimous decision loss to Marcos Maidana in December 2013.
Porter won his last fight against Eric Bone. Porter looked kind of sloppy in that fight, but that’s his fighting style. He’s going to need to be very aggressive against Broner for him to get the victory.

Porter will be coming down three pounds from 147 to fight Broner at 144 for their catch-weight. It shouldn’t be a real strain for Porter because it’s only three pounds. If he gets drained from losing an extra three pounds then he probably doesn’t belong in fighting at welterweight.

Broner has an outside chance of getting the Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight if he wins this fight, and if Mayweather doesn’t select Amir Khan to fight next in September.

khan45677By Scott Gilfoid: After his very close and unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision win over Chris Algieri last Friday night in New York, Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) figures there is a ton of interest in a fight between him and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) now.

Khan says the hype for the Khan-Mayweather fight is now huge, and that everywhere he goes, he’s bombarded with questions from fans who want to know “when are you going to fight Mayweather.” I personally don’t see much of any interest at all with fans wanting to see Mayweather vs. Khan, but I’m only dealing with the dedicated fans of the sport.

When I speak to casual fans about Amir Khan, they generally ask me “who is he?” That kind of tells you that Khan doesn’t really have much of a name among the casual fans of the sport. He’s just someone that the hardcore fans know about, which is why I don’t think there’s enough interest even with the hardcore fans in a Mayweather-Khan fight. I mean, Mayweather can fight pretty much any Joe off the street and bring in the same amount of PPV buys as a fight against Khan.

“The interest around the world [in Mayweather-Khan] is massive,” Khan said via Fighthype. “People are talking Mayweather, Mayweather, Mayweather. I think everybody wants it [Mayweather-Khan] now. I believe I’m the closest I’ve ever been towards getting it. Al Haymon is doing his job. He’s going to try and get me that fight. The hypes big for that fight. I’m going to have to be on my A-game. I can’t make any mistakes. Maybe Floyd is saying I’ll take this fight because obviously I think he’s beatable.”

Khan is seeing things backwards, I believe. Mayweather isn’t the type that wants to face guys that are fighting badly like Khan just finished doing against Algieri. Mayweather wants to fight guys that are well-respected and coming off a series of big wins.

Unfortunately, you can’t say that about Khan. He’s won his last five fights against weak opposition, and I imagine that if he doesn’t get the Mayweather fight in September, and it’s looking that way, then Khan will continue to face weak punchers in the foreseeable future. As such, I think Khan has got it backwards in believing that Mayweather will want to fight him more now after his horrible performance against Algieri. If anything, Mayweather will be turned off towards a fight against Khan, because his win over Algieri was the equivalent of a strong repellant

Well to be fair there isn't really anyone left. He beat Pacquiao which was obviously the one guy left so who is there? Khan, Brook, Thurman. That's really about it. Throw a dart to pick one I guess, none are beating him. I'd like to see Thurman personally but he hasn't really done anything himself.

Paulie was sent to the hospital with possible brain bleed man, this never had been is done and has been done. Its a joke of a fight. They say Danny is taking a soft fight for his welterweight "debut" but the guy has only been fighting at welterweight for a while now! All his recent fights were above 140 all catchweights of 141, 142 lol fuck this fight.

I rather see Khan fight Floyd more than anyone else.
He is still getting the W, impressively or not. You can't say someone doesn't deserve it because you aren't happy with the way they won. No other sport does that. A win by 1 run, goal, or point is still a win. Plus it will sell more, other than a Pac rematch, but Manny is out with a shoulder injury.

Danny vs Paulie is OK I guess.
I'd like to see Paulie win but more than likely it will be Danny on points.

De La Hoya: If I Return, I Want Gennady Golovkin

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is calling out the deadliest boxer in the world -- telling TMZ Sports if he does decide to get back in the ring, he wants to fight undefeated human annihilator Gennady Golovkin, who holds the WBA/IBO middleweight titles.

The 42-year-old Golden Boy was leaving the Belasco Theater in L.A. when we asked how he felt about being called out by Shane Mosley and Roy Jones Jr.

That's when Oscar dropped the bombshell ... saying, "If I ever come back, and I think about it every day, I'll fight Triple G."

So, does Oscar have a death wish? Does he truly believe he could beat one of the most dangerous fighters alive?

De La Hoya recently stated during a radio interview that he was tempted to get back in the ring. He's been retired since a 2008 knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao. Both Roy Jones Jr. and Shane Mosley said they were ready to fight the Golden Boy if he decided to enter the ring again.

delahoya789By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Abner Mares doesn’t think it’s a good idea at all for 41-year-old Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) to get in the ring against unbeaten IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) for a fight.

Mares laughed at the suggestion that De La Hoya should fight the hard hitting Golovkin. Mares thinks that De La Hoya would wind up getting murdered by Golovkin if he were to face him in his comeback. For that reason, Mares suggests that De La Hoya should fight the 52-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Mares thinks that would be a good fight. Chavez Sr. hasn’t fought in 10 years since losing a fight to Grover Wiley in September of 2005.

“No, it can’t be Triple G,” Mares said to esnewsreporting in discussing who De La Hoya should fight next. “Triple G would murder him. No disrespect to De La Hoya, but De La Hoya is past his prime. A good fight for De La Hoya is Chavez [Sr.]. I’d like to see him against Chavez again. Have you seen Chavez lately? He looks great.”

The problem with Mares’ advice for De La Hoya to fight an old timer like Chavez Sr. is that De La Hoya says that he only wants to fight the best when/if he comes back. He doesn’t want to come back and fight a bunch of old timers in fights that people won’t have any interest in seeing. De La Hoya specifically says he wants to fight Golovkin and only him if he comes back. Golovkin hasn’t said whether he would be willing to take on De La Hoya or not. He might have too much respect for De La Hoya for him to get in the ring and start head-hunting for a knockout.

It might be difficult for boxing fans to take a Golovkin vs. De La Hoya fight seriously unless De La Hoya fights a series of tune-up bouts and looks good against decent opposition. De La Hoya didn’t mention being open to fighting tune-up bouts, which means that he only wants the Golovkin bout and nothing else.

De La Hoya has been out of the ring for seven years now, and he looks like an old 41 rather than a young 41. He’s put on weight, and looks kind of fleshy around the jowls. To take off all the weight that he’s put on would take several months, but even then he’s not a legitimate middleweight. De La Hoya’s best weight late in his career was at 154. If he can drag Golovkin down to 154, then he might stand a better chance if Golovkin winds up weight drained and not as strong as he usually is.
