LOL @ FM: Now that is what's not gonna happen. I don't have a problem at all with southpaws either, so Guerrero is gonna be in trouble if he thinks he's kicking my son's ass, and like I told the reporter that came into the gym the other day, I don't give a fuck how old his daddy is, if he get out of line, I'll kick his ass. So my son gonna kick "The Ghost" ass and if his daddy get out of line, I'm gonna kick his ass. We are not taking him lightly and we not playing, man. At the end of the day, my son will still be undefeated.

During a recent interview with FightHype.com, Floyd Mayweather Sr. let it be known that Robert Guerrero isn't the only person who may be in trouble on May 4 now that he's back in his son's corner. "Guerrero is gonna be in trouble if he thinks he's kicking my son's ass, and like I told the reporter that came into the gym the other day, I don't give a fuck how old his daddy is, if he get out of line, I'll kick his ass. So my son gonna kick The Ghost ass and if his daddy get out of line, I'm gonna kick his ass," Mayweather stated, making it clear that he had no problems with stepping to Guerrero's own father should he get out of line during the promotion of the fight. Naturally, Guerrero's father, Ruben, took offense to the comment and wasted no time to respond.
"We can go in the parking lot, me and him, and let's see who's walking back. I'll kick his fucking ass, him and his son. I can meet both of them in the parking lot. I don't need Robert. I'll kick both of their fucking asses. That fucking ass will go down. They want to heat it up, I'll heat it up," Ruben Guerrero replied in a recent interview with Rick Reeno of Boxingscene.com. "I'm 30-0 in the barrio, knocking fools out. I'm undefeated in street-fighting. I'm a street fighter bro. They brought him in because he's a band-wagon. I've been with my son since he was five years old. My son never treated me like a piece of shit on TV like his son did. That guy don't scare me. He ain't shit to me."
As you can guess, it didn't take long for Mayweather Sr. to respond once he got word of Ruben Guerrero's comments. "Wait until we get to the press conference. We gonna see, because I wish that motherfucker would call himself swinging on me. They can close the door because I'm gonna put his ass on the floor. He don't need to worry about what happened between me and my son. Worry about what's gonna happen to your son and your ass if you run up on me. I wish that motherfucker would call himself coming up on me. I don't know where he was shot at, but I bet it wasn't worse than when I got shot. I'm gonna break his ass down, so I hope he didn't get shot in the body," Mayweather Sr. fired back. "Then again, I'm gonna hit him on the fucking chin anyway, so it don't matter. Motherfucker was talking shit about Lil' Floyd and that ain't gonna go down. He say he fucking 30-0 in the streets? He can get ready to be 30-1 because I don't fuck around. I will be 60 years old on March 15th and I bet you I will break any motherfucking 50-something-year-old motherfucker down. It don't matter how old he is. PC: How are you doing, man?
GR: I'm doing wonderful, man; we out here grinding. Camp is going good. We been putting work in for about 6 and a half, almost 7 weeks. We ready, man.
PC: It's gotta be comforting to you to have such a family oriented corner. Does that play a factor in your fights?
GR: Most definitely! Most definitely, and the reason why is this, a coach is a fighter's last line of defense. You have to have the utmost faith in what your corner is telling you to go out and do, and then go out there and try to make it work. With a coach, they have to learn a person. With my coach being both my father and my trainer, I know that everything that he's telling me to do is in my best interest; that's outside of boxing and it definitely trends over into the boxing world. It's so much to the point where if he was to tell me to do something in the ring and it's not working, in my mind, it's not working based on the fact that I'm not doing it exactly the way he wants me to do it. So it definitely plays a big factor. I know that my father would never steer me wrong and never steer me in a direction where it would hurt me. I have that blind faith to what he tells me to do in the corner.
PC: We always talk about your amateur pedigree. I'm sure in the amateurs you have faced your fair share of Russians. On March 2nd, you are fighting Vyacheslav Gusev. When you watch footage of him, does he fit the mold of a typical Russian stylistically or does he bring something different to the table?
GR: He's actually not the typical Russian fighter. He tends to box a little more and he's a little more fluid. His fundamentals are somewhat sound; he's somewhat sound, but I doubt very seriously that it will affect the outcome of the fight. At the end of the day, we will emerge victorious. We see things in his arsenal that we can pick apart in the fight. He is a shorter guy. He is a shorter guy that likes to throw a lot of wide shots that will make it easy for me. He's a pretty decent fighter, but overall, man, we ready and we gonna pick him apart.
PC: You had one of the best knockouts of 2012 in your last fight. Do you put any pressure on yourself to one-up your last performance or do you just try to get better each and every time out?
GR: Not at all. I never try to one-up my last performance. My dad always tells me, "You're only as good as your last fight." We never try to one-up our last performance. I never look for a knockout. If it comes, it comes, but ultimately, we just go out there and try to execute the game plan. If we execute it perfectly in the fight, hopefully we will get a knockout, and if not, then we will get a unanimous decision.
PC: I usually speak to you before and after each fight, and before each fight, I ask what do you want to showcase or improve on. Last time, you said you wanted to show that you had power in both hands, and you did that. What are you looking to showcase in this fight?
GR: We gonna show all around boxing. I feel like I have been more of a boxer/puncher, walking these guys down and stalking them. We gonna make this guy come to us this fight. We not gonna walk him down. We gonna keep everything on the outside and keep our distance. We gonna show my versatility as a fighter.
PC: I spoke to Naazim Richardson not too long ago and one of the things he said was that once you decided to commit yourself to boxing 100% and leave the street stuff alone, it was a beautiful thing because you could see your talent level go up a notch. What caused you to fully commit and leave the other things alone? Was it because you saw that you could have a future in this sport?
GR: It's when I really stepped back and seen that I do have a talent. I was competing in these tournaments and I was winning. I overlooked the importance of the guys I was competing against. These were guys that were winning national tournaments before I even started competing in these tournaments. I was beating these guys easily, and it started getting close to the Olympic year and I was like, "I'm beating these guys that are supposed to be the best of the best here in the United States and I'm doing it so easy, why not try to make a run at the Olympics? Let me give it 100% of what I have." And of course I had a lot of family and friends that were supporting me and wanted to see me give it 100%, so we made that run.
PC: You have been making waves over at Showtime for years now. They recently signed Floyd Mayweather Jr. What is that like to be affiliated with a network that just brought over the biggest draw and one of the best fighters of this generation?
GR: It's definitely huge, man, and it's a privilege and a pleasure. The network has exactly what it takes as far as exposure. We are in the midst of so many people worldwide that will be watching the fights, man, and to get that exposure to show what it is that I bring to the table means a lot.
PC: When you look at how the Mikey Garcia and Orlando Salido a lot of people look at that as a torch passing fight. Juan Ma just got back into the win column. The 126-pound division is looking very promising. You said that 2013 is gonna be your year. Any of those names on the radar for you by the years end?
GR: I think the way the division is turning out, it's turning out perfectly for me. No one wants to be in a division where there isn't a lot of talent. Everyone wants to see the best go against the best. I honestly believe that I am head and shoulders better than these guys that hold the title and by the end of the year, we will take one from one of these guys who are champions right now. I don't take nothing away from them because they had to put the work in to get to that point, but they just holding on to it for me for now.
PC: Keeping it warm for you, huh?
GR: Yeah, that's it.
PC: How many times would you like to go this year?
GR: I want to get at least 3 in this year. We going with this one, and hopefully…like I say, we never overlook anybody. We want to get through this bout, God willing, with no injuries and we receive the W. And if it's up to me, the bout after this, I will definitely be trying to get my hands on Juan Manuel Lopez. We want to do that one and from there, we will be trying to line up one of these guys with these belts for my third bout.
PC: I can't wait to see you perform on March 2nd on Showtime. I wish you the best of luck. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
GR: Man, it's always a pleasure. Always a pleasure you guys having me, and you guys can look for a good show and good performance on the 2nd.

"We are having an outstanding camp," said Roach. "Ruslan has given me everything I have asked for in training. The fact that Ruslan has been Manny Pacquiao's lead sparring partner his past two camps has given Ruslan an outstanding foundation from which to work. When Manny was preparing to defend his title against Bradley last spring I said any of Manny's sparring partners could beat Bradley. Ruslan will to prove that on March 16.
"I've heard Bradley say he's going to take the fight to Ruslan. He said the same thing before his fight with Manny. Zab Judah Explains: Team Garcia Called The Cops On Me!

Weeks after their Feb. 9 match was announced, Zab Judah was driving with his friends to watch Amir Khan fight Carlos Molina in L.A. when he noticed something suspicious -- a car had been tagging him.
"We had four SUVs and we pull up to the W [hotel] and I noticed there was a white car with two guys sitting in it watching. I'm not worried though, because I don't live that life any more. So we check in and all that, then we go to the mall. When we start drivin to the mall i see the white car again. Then we go to eat, go back to the hotel. Everybody gets dressed and comes down to the lobby. Now it's time to go to the fight. We all get in the cars, make a right, a left, get into the intersection and then boom, right there, it was like something out of a Hollywood set. We had four trucks, there must have been like 15 cop cars with lights on and sirens. They scream "get out the cars" on the bullhorn, guns are all drawn out. You would have thought I was Pablo Escobar."
"The LAPD are no joke. The sheriff comes up to me and I say 'what's going on?' He says 'listen Zab, I'm a big fan, I've been watching you for years, but we were tipped off by Team Garcia that Zab Judah was coming to LA to start a riot.' (Danny Garcia and Angel Garcia were ringside at the Khan-Molina fight at the LA Sports Arena.) They said that we had guns and all kinds of crazy stuff and that we were coming to do bodily harm to Team Garcia."
"I'm just an athlete coming to watch a fight. He asks me why I have so many people with me, but it's my team. My trainers, my security guys. He asks everyone to pour out of the trucks entirely and we're there for like 40 minutes. They're searching the cars out. We're in the middle of the street while they do all the searching. I told the cop if something was going to happen, wouldn't it have happened in New York (at the press conference to announce the fight)? The cops advised me to not go to the fight and that the Garcias are scared I'm going to do something. How are they scared? We're talking about a fighter and a father with a big mouth. I never said not one harsh word to that man, they started with me. "
"So I go watch the fight at a friend's house in Hollywood Hills and then I notice that the same car is trailing me again. They stay outside of the house for at least 40 minutes and just made us feel uncomfortable. The cops also advised not to go to the Sam Watson Charity Basketball Game the next day. So we weren't able to go to the fight or the game. These punks popped off and then call the police. It was sad, man."

Weeks after their Feb. 9 match was announced, Zab Judah was driving with his friends to watch Amir Khan fight Carlos Molina in L.A. when he noticed something suspicious -- a car had been tagging him.
"We had four SUVs and we pull up to the W [hotel] and I noticed there was a white car with two guys sitting in it watching. I'm not worried though, because I don't live that life any more. So we check in and all that, then we go to the mall. When we start drivin to the mall i see the white car again. Then we go to eat, go back to the hotel. Everybody gets dressed and comes down to the lobby. Now it's time to go to the fight. We all get in the cars, make a right, a left, get into the intersection and then boom, right there, it was like something out of a Hollywood set. We had four trucks, there must have been like 15 cop cars with lights on and sirens. They scream "get out the cars" on the bullhorn, guns are all drawn out. You would have thought I was Pablo Escobar."
"The LAPD are no joke. The sheriff comes up to me and I say 'what's going on?' He says 'listen Zab, I'm a big fan, I've been watching you for years, but we were tipped off by Team Garcia that Zab Judah was coming to LA to start a riot.' They said that we had guns and all kinds of crazy stuff and that we were coming to do bodily harm to Team Garcia."

He asks everyone to pour out of the trucks entirely and we're there for like 40 minutes. They're searching the cars out. We're in the middle of the street while they do all the searching. I told the cop if something was going to happen, wouldn't it have happened in New York (at the press conference to announce the fight)? The cops advised me to not go to the fight and that the Garcias are scared I'm going to do something. How are they scared? We're talking about a fighter and a father with a big mouth. I never said not one harsh word to that man, they started with me. "
"So I go watch the fight at a friend's house in Hollywood Hills and then I notice that the same car is trailing me again. They stay outside of the house for at least 40 minutes and just made us feel uncomfortable. The cops also advised not to go to the Sam Watson Charity Basketball Game the next day. So we weren't able to go to the fight or the game. These punks popped off and then call the police. It was sad, man."

Seth Mitchell talks about postponed rematch with Johnathon Banks and the future

Banks Mitchell Banks vs. Mitchell seth mitchell johnathon banks By Ian Aldous: This past week, I had the opportunity to speak with Seth Mitchell (25-1-1) as he looks to get his career back on track after suffering defeat to Johnathon Banks last November. Despite that defeat, Mitchell and his team will look to press on and get the big fights he craves allowing Seth to prove himself as a genuine world heavyweight contender. Seth spoke with me prior to attending the Lamont Peterson vs. Kendall Holt fight last Friday.
Just ten days away from his rematch with Johnathon Banks and a shot at redemption, Seth Mitchell receives the call that all fighters dread during training. “Someone from my team called and told me that Johnathon Banks had hurt his hand and they were gonna get back with me to let me know the severity of it. They said they think he’d broke his hand but waited for the x-rays just to clarify it, so I found out on Tuesday and then on Wednesday it was official that the fight was pretty much (off). Even if I was going to fight, which was highly unlikely because of the late notice, it wasn’t going to be Johnathon Banks.”
The fight was all set to be the co-main event to the Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees show from Atlantic City, New Jersey. A fellow U.S heavyweight did put his name forward to take the place of Banks, but unfortunately that particular fight couldn’t be brought to fruition. “Bryant Jennings, I guess his team had called out Golden Boy (promotions) and said they would take the fight. I was willing to take the fight but it just didn’t materialize.”
So, imagine working on a project at your job for weeks and then ten days from completion, you have to down tools and forget about it. That’s the position a fighter finds himself in when a fight is cruelly taken away by either an injury to yourself or your foe. “It’s frustrating and very disappointing but as a fighter you have to know that these things happen in boxing and you can’t let it bring you down too much, we’re only human. So, it does frustrate you but it frustrates you even more when it happens so late, not five or six weeks out. At least you have an ample amount of time to find a replacement but when it’s that close to the fight and you put in your heart and your soul in your training and you’re salivating just to get in the ring and then you get the call that it’s not gonna happen, it’s a bummer.”
After the obvious disappointment of the first fight with Banks and a maiden defeat of his professional career, you have to admire Seth and his team for wanting an immediate rematch with Banks and not going another avenue, as many fighters will do following a tough loss. He wants to right what he sees as the wrongs of the last fight. “Absolutely, I’ll say this: when the stakes are high, I don’t bet with my heart, I bet with my head, my mind and I truly believe that I can beat Johnathon Banks. If he was outboxing me and outclassing me for five or six rounds and then he knocks me out, the competitor in me would have still wanted a rematch but I would’ve taken a few more fights before I went back for the rematch. I don’t feel that was the case. Not saying he caught me with a lucky shot because he didn’t, I was lunging and reaching and he did what he was supposed to do, but that wont happen this time.”
What makes Mitchell think we’ll see a very different outcome from the first bout? “Without getting into too many details, I’m a quick learner and this fight has definitely taught me a lot. I’m excited to get back out there and just show my improvements. I’ve learned a lot from the fight. Looking at that fight, I wasn’t getting dominated, my technique was wrong, my balance (was wrong) and I was reaching a lot, I was lunging a lot, so those are just some of the things that we’ve worked on. I’m not one for a lot of words and I’m not one to talk a lot. I can say that I’ve gotten better but until I show it in the ring, it really doesn’t matter. That’s why I’m so excited to get back in the ring and show my improvements.”
It’s a fair assessment to make that Mitchell had steam-rolled through the majority of his opponents. Big victories immediately preceded the Banks fight with exciting and quick wins over the previously never-been-stopped, Timur Ibragimov and Chazz Witherspoon. It’s feasible that over-confidence may have infiltrated his mind. “Not at all. I don’t underestimate any of my opponents. I train extremely hard so I’m always in shape when I get in there and I know that anybody can be beat on any given day. Now, with that being said, I did steam-roll twelve of my thirteen opponents before that fight, so you don’t really see how much you have to change when everything is going well and I could admit to that. As far as me underestimating him, no, I had respect for him. I trained extremely hard but my technique was wrong and when I went back and viewed some of my prior fights, I did some of the same things that I did in this fight, in those fights, they just didn’t capitalize on them.”
No date had been set for the rematch during our conversation. “It’s still unknown, I’m waiting just like you. I’m very confident within the next week or two weeks, I’ll have a date lined up.” Time is of the essence and he rightly wants to get his career back on track ASAP. “Absolutely, that’s why I can’t wait to get him back in the ring. Hopefully he’ll be able to get back in the ring and it wont be that long because I don’t wanna wait until May to fight, that’ll be another six months out of the ring for me and I want to stay active this year. I was hoping to fight four times this year but we’ll sit down and I would like to fight before May and if I don’t, I’m a firm believer in ‘everything happens for a reason’ but I’ll be ready when I step in the ring.”
The big win for Tony Thompson this past weekend over David Price appears to echo what happened to Seth last November, a bona-fide heavyweight prospect unexpectedly suffering the first defeat of his respective career by second round stoppage. One loss doesn’t spell the end like so many fans seem to want it to. Thompson believes he’s the No.1 U.S heavyweight, while Seth sees himself not too far away. “I think I’m right there in the mix with them. I think I can contest any of those fighters right now. I believe I’m up at the top of the heavyweights right now. I just have to go out there and show improvements and get the job done in my next fight and everything else will speak for itself.”

Andre Berto looking for a new trainer

andre berto By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KO’s) has reportedly split with his long-time trainer Tony Morgan, and is currently looking to replace him with someone still to be determined. Berto, 29, has lost two out of his last three fights, and he’s now little more than a fringe contender at 147 at #15 WBC.
Berto is going to need to really improve if he’s going to remain as a top tier welterweight because he’s now on the verge of slipping from the top tier. In his last fight against Robert Guerrero last November, Berto made the disastrous decision to try out the shoulder roll defense made famous by Floyd Mayweather Jr, and he fought poorly throughout using this style.
Guerrero ended up giving Berto a real pounding in winning by a 12 round unanimous decision. But beyond the problems on defense, Berto fought like an old man, staying on the ropes the entire 12 rounds, and looking too tired to fight in the middle of the ring like he used to when he was a younger fighter.
Berto is only 29-years-old, but since his fight against Victor Ortiz two years ago in 2011, Berto has needed to fight with his back against the ropes instead of being able to fight in the center of the ring. His fighting style is very similar to how older fighters use in their 40s, and it’s very strange that Berto can’t fight in the center of the ring like he used to years ago.
Berto can get a new trainer, but unless he makes major changes to how he fights by opting to stay in the center of the ring and NOT using the shoulder roll, then it’s pointless for him to find someone else. He’s not going to be able to turn his career round if he doesn’t get back to the way he used to fight in the past.

The dates that Canelo’s team is looking at are April 20th in Mexico or May 11th in the United States, but NOT against Trout. It wouldn’t be against Trout for some reason. The other names that Golden Boy has mentioned for Canelo to fight next in the recent past are Alfredo Angulo or James Kirkland. Those are winnable fights for Canelo, but neither fight would answer the question about whether Canelo is a fighter based on hype or if he’s actually the real deal.
Golden Boy hasn’t put Canelo in with the best fighters in the 154 pound division in Trout, Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan, and if they feed Angulo or Kirkland to him then it would be a continuation of what many boxing fans see as soft match-making to keep Canelo from being exposed by a good junior middleweight. For me, I’d just be happy to see Canelo fight someone from the junior middleweight division because I’ve seen him fight way too many welterweights in the past two years and it’s incredibly disappointing.

According to philstar.com, Marquez is asking for a minimum of $20 million before he’ll agree to face the Filipino for a fifth time this September.
The last time the two fighters faced each other in December, Pacquiao had a lopsided purse in his favor with Marquez receiving $6 million to Pacquiao’s $23 million for a 76/24 split. This time, Marquez is looking for more parity between the two fighters so that they’re both being well paid.
There was $29 million to go around last time between the two fighters in guaranteed cash, but their next fight could bring even more due to the high interest in the fight.
Boxing fans want to see if Marquez can knock Pacquiao out again, and Pacquiao’s fans want to see him avenge his 6th round knockout loss that he suffered at the hands of Marquez last December.
You’ve got to figure there will be more money for the fighters to get for a fifth fight, so it’s not unreasonable to imagine that both Pacquiao and Marquez could each end up with $20 million each. They may have to limit the cash to the other people with their hands out, but I think it’s possible for Marquez to get his $20 million.
Marquez is looking to get the best deal possible because he, for the first time, is in the position to really bargain for this fight given that he knocked Pacquiao out cold last time out. If Marquez can’t get a good 50-50 deal this time then it’s probably not realistic to think they’d ever get one. He might want to walk away if Pacquiao’s promoter talks about another lopsided deal in Pacquiao’s favor.
Arum still isn’t sure whether he’ll be staging the fight outside of the United States in order dodge the higher taxes there. But that could be one way for Marquez to get his $20 million if they stage the fight in China, and then beam it over to U.S boxing fans to scoop it up. At some point Arum is going to need to think about matching Pacquiao against other fighters because you can’t show reruns year after year without letting other fighters get a shot. Besides that, Marquez might end up knocking Pacquiao out cold again and then Arum will be stuck with a fighter that is pretty much lost his last four fights, if you count Pacquiao’s highly controversial win over Marquez in 2011 as another loss.
