Froch wants Chavez Jr. or Ward next

julio cesar chavez jr carl froch andre ward By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch says he wants to face former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. or WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward next rather than facing George Groves again, as he sees those fights as much more interesting than for him to face Groves again. Froch feels that he conclusively beat Groves, even if boxing fans disagree with the stoppage. Froch cares that the referee Howard John Foster felt Groves was hurt enough to halt the bout, and that’s enough for Froch to move on with his victory.

Froch said to the BBC “Andre Ward is on my hit list. There’s also a guy in America [Mexico] called Julio Cesar Chavez [Jr.] who’s a great fighter. As much as the fans want to see it [Groves] real a natural conclusion against George Groves, with me knocking him out again, I feel personally I gave him his chance and he blew it. He can’t cut it at world level.”

So there it is. Froch is moving on whether fans want to see him fight Groves or not. Sounds good, eh? I’m not surprised because I never thought Froch would give Groves a rematch from the very start. Why would Froch break his tradition of not giving rematches? He didn’t give Andre Dirrell a rematch after beating him by in an even more controversial fight, so why should Froch change his stripes and all of a sudden give Groves a rematch after beating him by a controversial stoppage. It really doesn’t matter. The boxing fans saw what happened in that fight, and they’ve basically ignored Froch’s victory and see it as a tainted question mark. If that’s good enough for Froch, then that’s on him.

I think Froch might have problems getting a fight against Chavez Jr. in 2014. It’s not easy to set up fights against Chavez Jr. unless his promoter Bob Arum wants it. Arum has probably got a series of opponents he wants Chavez Jr. to fight in 2014, and I doubt he’ll change his plans just so Froch can fight Chavez Jr. Besides that, Chavez Jr. will probably lose his next fight against Brian Vera in early 2014, and that’ll kill any interest in a Froch-Chavez Jr. fight.

One positive that Froch said was “Las Vegas is the fight capital,” so that could be a potential venue for a Ward-Froch rematch, if Froch is serious about wanting to fight Ward again. I don’t think he is, but it’ll be interesting to see if that happens.

If Froch doesn’t fight Ward, Groves or Chavez Jr. in 2014, then his options are pretty slim. I guess Froch could fight James DeGale, but that be a dull fight to watch with DeGale hitting and running for 12 rounds. I don’t see that as a step up from the Froch-Groves fight. In fact, I see it as a big step down because DeGale would be fighting defensively to avoid getting hit and it would turn out to be a real snoozer for 12 rounds.

Groves needs to move on now because Froch has said his thing and he doesn’t want to fight him again. Groves can maybe go after the winner of the fight between WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika and Anthony Dirrell.

Who will Cotto pick? Canelo or Martinez. Massive offers for both. I hope he picks Canelo as Martinez NEEDS to fight Golovkin!

Cotto has a $15M guarantee to fight Martinez in MSG

Sources revealed that Cotto and Top Rank already have June 7th reserved in Madison square garden. The event is scheduled to take place the day before the traditional Puerto Rican Day Parade.

An alleged attractive offer from the leaders of the MSG, whose president Hank Ratner, made Top Rank and Cotto's team look towards a celebration in the historic site.

For this projected fight with Martinez, MSG would be used to its maximum capacity to provides room for 23,000 fans, as happened in 2007 when Cotto made a second defense of his then-welterweight title against Zab Judah.

It was further stated that the offer of Top Rank surpassed the offer by the CEO of GBP, Richard Schaefer.

Cotto could receive a guaranteed purse of $15 million without counting his participation in the sales of 'pay-per-view' which could make those numbers double, something he can't get with Alvarez, coming off a loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in what was his first fight on PPV.

The final announcement of Cotto and his team could occur next week.

The Canelo fight wasn't going to go through as Cotto came out saying he never talked to GB plus Schaefer came out saying Zab Judah was Floyds hardest competition when we all know it was Cotto

Actually it was Castillo although Floyd clearly beat him the 2nd time. The first fight was still closest fight Floyd has ever had. Cotto won 2-3 rounds at the most and Floyd let him off the hook with that fighting style and he still only won 2-3 rounds. I think Judah gave Floyd a better fight also. Got Em!!

Cotto won four rounds but it was a tough fight for floyd, his toughest in years. Judah wasn't shit after the first few rounds. Castillo definitely his toughest after that Floyd always said Emmanuel Augustus was his toughest fight who was the only other person to make Floyd bleed besides Cotto and Castillo (not counting Ortiz' illegal headbutt).

I think all 3 judges gave Cotto 3 rounds and I either gave him 2 or 3 but I definitely didnt see a 4th round that he couldve won. Either way it wasnt all that tough in my eyes. Cotto got lucky in the way Floyd fought that night to prove a point thats all. I do agree Castillo was his toughest. Got Em!!

Yea I remember not giving him more than 3 but regardless I still dont think it was that tough of a fight as some make it out to be. Floyd didnt use his legs as again he wanted to prove a point. If he fights Cotto like he normally does, he wouldve frustrated him just like he does everyone else. Got Em!!

Dana White Returns To Boxing With New Reality TV Show “The Fighters”

December 1st, 2013

By Jaime C. Feal

A big problem with today’s fight fans is that a love for boxing tends to decrease respect and interest in MMA, and vice versa. The search for which combat sport is better overshadows the fact both are great, exciting sports. It is easy to forget that UFC president Dana White, who oversees the leading mixed martial arts promotion in the world, used to be an amateur boxing manager and promoter in South Boston. With his new reality television show centered around the South Boston boxing scene, White attempts to re-invigorate interest in his hometown’s boxing scene, and he certainly has the blueprint, financial capital, and experience to make this a successful foray.

Dana White is the executive producer on the show, teaming up with the executive producer of “The Ultimate Fighter” Craig Piligian as well. Early indications are that “The Fighters” will air on the Discovery channel in 2014. The move by White is an extremely positive one for the sport of boxing, particularly in the Boston area. While White could choose to be an elitist, focusing his financial resources on the growing sport of MMA, he instead has chosen to give back to his home community and first love of Boxing.

The show appears to be centered around amateur fighters, which is similar to the format employed by “The Ultimate Fighter” in that contestants lack professional experience but possess tons of heart, determination, and often times raw talent. It is not entirely clear if this new reality TV show “The Fighters” will be a tournament-style format, a documentary, or a hybrid of the two. Nevertheless, it is an admirable venture Dana White is embarking on to grow the sport of boxing.

Those quick to write off the show as a celebrity-endorsed gimmick need to look no further than Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard’s “The Contender.” That enormously popular reality TV show garnered many views, spawned a few sequels, and elevated the profile of boxers Peter Manfredo Jr. and Sakio Bika. Here’s hoping that “The Fighters” brings boxing back into the limelight, proving that exciting fights happen at all levels in boxing, even in a local South Boston gym.

Cotto win 2-3 rounds at the most. Mayweather beat Cotto the fuck up that fight. Give him the pumpkin head. Cotto fought like a warrior and didn't make it easy for Floyd but it was a 10-2 or 9-3 fight.

FYI Cotto advisor said that the $15 million was not true.

Im not sure if Cotto will beat either one to be honest. If I had to choose I would say he has a better chance against an aging Martinez. All of a sudden people talking bad about Canelo because Mayweather made him look average at best. Thats just what Mayweather does. Canelo is a beast and there arent many fighters out there that would beat him. I think Canelo would actually stop Cotto. Got Em!!

Also believe it or not Canelo is the bigger fighter of the two although he fights in a smaller weight class. He comes into the ring bigger than Martinez does. Got Em!!
