Yuriorkis Gamboa vs Darley Perez looks likely for June 8

Yuriorkis Gamboa was previously reported to be in negotiations to face Juan Carlos Burgos in an HBO fight on June 8 from Las Vegas, but now it appears that he'll face Darley Perez, and the fight won't be held in Vegas after all.

Perez (28-0, 19 KO) is a 29-year-old Colombian, and has a bit better of an on-paper record than the typical Colombian Record, though it's still short of a record you'd expect to really challenge a top fighter like Gamboa (22-0, 16 KO). But as we've all seen, and saw in his last fight with Michael Farenas, Gamboa doesn't have the greatest chin or balance, and his inactivity is doing him no favors. Also, he's moving up to lightweight, which might help, but also might just present the same problems but against increasingly bigger foes.

Gamboa-TBA will be broadcast by HBO on June 8. The fight was originally thought to be in Vegas, where promoter 50 Cent had put in the paperwork to run a show with Gamboa on that date, but there is some chance it could wind up in Montreal with the Chad Dawson-Adonis Stevenson bout, as Gary Shaw promotes both Dawson and Perez, but that is just speculation.

Trout Confirms Usada Testing

By Luis Sandoval

Austin “No Doubt” Trout is training hard for his upcoming mega fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as both undefeated champions will meet April 20th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX on Showtime. It’s a fight most didn’t think would happen but now we’re less than 2 weeks away from seeing this unification bout happen.

Trout was on the most recent episode of BoxingScene Radio as he revealed that random drug style testing was agreed upon and both fighters have already been tested by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) who is the agency administering the tests.
“
Definitely. We pushed and pushed for it and actually USADA is here right now getting all their stuff ready. But they got to wait until my interview [with you guys is] over! But yeah, I've been tested twice and this would be the third. I'm hoping they're testing him and not just destroying results like they've done before. Maybe next time we can get VADA but right now we have to take what we can get with USADA. No offense guys” a chuckling Trout would say to BoxingScene Radio as well as the USADA personnel in his presence.

Random drug testing is extremely prevalent now for big fights and this bout was no exception. Even before this fight was anywhere near to being signed, Trout had disclosed he would only fight Alvarez if both participated in random style drug testing.
While Trout made his request, Alvarez and his handlers had one of their own. Trout was asked if a rematch clause had been set in the contract.
“
You know it! You know it. Of course they did. They didn't want this fight. [It’s for] when things don't go their way. That's one of the things we were worried about [with] the contract going back and forth. They wanted options and a rematch and we're like ‘come on, get out of here'. You can have the rematch, that's fine. And of course if the other way happens, say he wins -which is not going to happen- there is no rematch clause. So you know, I'm again taking the short end of the stick to get the fight that I want. Hopefully I won't be doing that too much longer” said the New Mexico native.

Trout expects a tough fight from Canelo but regardless of what he has to go through, he promises his hand will be raised when it’s all said and done.

April 20th when we meet in the center of the ring we're having an explosive fight…for a while. Then I feel I'm going to do like I usually do and pull away. If he can take it, we can go 12 rounds. And if he can't, he's going to down. But either way my hand is going to be raised by the end of the night with that green strap around my waist along with my WBA belt. I will walk out of there a unified champion and he can go get another brother to try to avenge his loss. There's other fish to fry but you won't catch Trout” said the WBA champion

Floyd gets about a 95/5 split against his Mexican opponents on Mexican holidays so don't complain.

JMM deserves about 50/50 now though after that brutal ko.
That's because Floyd is the man and is putting that undefeated record on the line... lol

But damn 95/5 split? lmfao.... are you exagerating(sp) man?

Well Floyd got $40 million Victoria Ortiz $2 million. Guerrero is getting around the same, maybe a tad more . Cotto did get a bit more though.

Also what wasn't mentioned was that Marquez got some of the PPV. Floyd isn't so kind and demands all the PPV revenue for himself.

GOLOVKIN VS. MACKLIN SET FOR JUNE 29
By Press Release | April 11, 2013

Foxwoods® Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, will play host to the highly anticipated World Middleweight Championship bout between WBA (World Boxing Association) / IBO (International Boxing Organization) Champion GENNADY "GGG" GOLOVKIN and top-rated contender and former world title challenger MATTHEW "MACK THE KNIFE" MACKLIN on Saturday, June 29, 2013 in the beautiful, state of the art MGM Grand Theater. The world title bout will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark®, beginning at 9:45 PM ET/PT.

The Golovkin-Macklin World Championship Bout is promoted by K2 Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, in association with Foxwoods Resort Casino.

"I'm excited to return to the United States and once again fight on HBO. Matthew Macklin is a skilled, strong fighter and I look forward to the challenge of defending my titles on June 29th," said Golovkin. "I have seen a few of his fights and am very conscious of how tough of a battle this is."

"Golovkin hasn't put a foot wrong yet as a pro. He's destroyed pretty much everyone and, as a consequence, he's probably the most hyped fighter in the sport right now," said Macklin. "People have made him out to be this monster, but he bleeds red just like everyone else and, for the first time in his career, he's going to be stepping into the ring against a big, strong, proper world-class middleweight.

"When you compare my last three opponents to Golovkin's last three opponents, it's clear who the proven entity is, going into this fight. I got robbed against Felix Sturm in Germany, it was nip-and-tuck between me and Sergio Martinez until I got caught in the eleventh, and last time out, I blew away Joachim Alcine inside a round, a former world champ who was coming off a career-best win."

"Gennady is excited to return to the ring so quickly to defend his titles against a proven, top-rated middleweight in Matthew Macklin. Gennady was ringside for Macklin's fight against Sergio Martinez last March and saw firsthand how dangerous he is, as he dropped Sergio in the seventh round," said Tom Loeffler, Managing Director of K2 Promotions. "GGG has become one of the most talked-about fighters in boxing. This fight with Macklin will be a very hot ticket. We're thankful to HBO for featuring Gennady again and also to the Foxwoods Resort Casino for hosting this event."

"Golovkin-Macklin is one of the very best fights that can be made in the middleweight division and all of boxing," said Macklin's promoter, Lou DiBella. "It figures to be a barnburner and we are thrilled that Matthew is getting another deserved opportunity at a world title."

"This is a fight fan's fight," said Kery Davis, Senior Vice President, HBO Sports. "We are thrilled that both fighters accepted the challenge and we are looking forward to a terrific night of boxing on HBO."

"Foxwoods Resort Casino is proud to be teaming up with DiBella Entertainment and K2 Promotions to bring a stellar championship match to Connecticut; proving once again that Foxwoods is the premier venue for professional boxing on the East Coast," said Scott Butera, Foxwoods' president and CEO. "The Golovkin-Macklin fight will be one for the record books."

Known for his heavy hands and brutal knockouts and sporting a perfect record of 26-0-0 with 23 knockouts, Golovkin has quickly become the most talked-about fighter in the sport. His 88% knockout ratio ranks highest among active world champions.

Based in Stuttgart, Germany, and training under the watchful eye of Abel Sanchez in Big Bear, California, Golovkin dramatically burst onto the U.S. boxing scene this past SEPTEMBER 1 with a sensational performance, dropping WBA #3-ranked challenger Grzegorz Proksa three times en route to a fifth-round stoppage in Verona, New York. He followed that up with a dominating seventh-round stoppage of Gabriel Rosado on JANUARY 19 at Madison Square Garden, "The Mecca of Boxing". Both world title defenses were televised on HBO.

Most recently, Golovkin stayed undefeated with a devastating third-round knockout of former world title challenger Nobuhiro Ishida on MARCH 30, in Monte Carlo, Monaco, his 13th consecutive victory by knockout and eighth title defense.

Irish middleweight contender Matthew "Mack the Knife" Macklin, 29-4 (20 KOs), is an intelligent boxer-puncher, who has shown that he is not afraid to engage or press the action when necessary. He is currently ranked #3 by the WBC, #11 by the WBA, and #14 by the IBF.

In his first stateside appearance since a pair of 2005 victories, Macklin challenged middleweight champion Sergio "Maravillia" Martinez at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 2012. Although he came up short, Macklin gave the champion all he could handle for 11 rounds, even scoring a knockdown in the seventh frame, in front of thousands of fans at the Garden and those watching on HBO.

Andre Ward loses WBC title, but named 'champion emeritus'

Showing the true generosity in their hearts, the WBC has taken their super middleweight title off of Andre Ward, but have voted to name him "champion emeritus," which means that whenever the fighter returns, he can fight for the belt with a 60-40 purse split in his favor.

Of course, anyone Ward might fight for the belt, including possibly a rematch with Sakio Bika, would be a fight where he deserves more than 60-40, so this is all just, you know, a way to make money on this belt elsewhere in the meantime. What angels they are at the WBC.

Ward (26-0, 14 KO) last fought in September, dominating Chad Dawson in Oakland to retain his titles (Ward also holds the WBA "super" belt). Ward had shoulder surgery earlier this year, which canceled a planned January defense against Kelly Pavlik, and also sat out between December 2011 and September 2012 to heal up and rest after the Super Six World Boxing Classic.

I suppose it's fair in that these are the rules, but rules are broken all the time in boxing. "It is what it is!" There, now that we've shared that special insight, let's move on.

haha no doubt this belt will be given by the WBC to Chavez jr.

And Ward broke no rules, he last fought in September. After one year is the rule, not before it. Besides the wbc has ignored this plenty of times before. But again just watch, this is for Chavez.

Oscar lost all his biggest fights you could argue (except Trinidad really) but how many "big" fights did Tito have except Vargas? Joppy isn't a big fight. Oba Carr isn't a big fight by any means. Mayorga certainly isn't.

Marquez has a greater single victory with his Pac KO, but overall resume gotta go with Tito.

Casamayor looked like shit though before Marquez, he got whooped by Santa Cruz which was one of the worst robberies in recent times so Casa shouldn't have even been a champ.

Juan Diaz was an ok fighter, I never thought was anything too special, really no power but fan friendly. He was beat by Nate Campbell pretty badly prior to JMM.

I'd say William Joppy was a better/tough champ than Juan Diaz. And an old Pernell Whitaker or Camacho are better wins than an old Casa.

And keep in mind Tito destroyed these guys. I mean the way he destroyed a durable 160 pounder in Joppy (who Hopkins couldn't even knock out a couple years later) was a phenomenal display of power:

I know he looked like crap against Santa Cruz and I thought he lost badly, but he also beat an undefeated Katsidis when he was beastin at the moment in a great fight, even if that was pretty much his last good fight. No, Katsidis isn't a great fighter but again, he had never been stopped and still had something left in the tank. Marquez moved up in weight and knocked him out.

Joppy's best wins are an older than dirt Duran and Reid (a very solid win even if he was a late replacement) and I guess you could say Howard Eastman (who wasn't even as good as Katsidis). Joppy wasn't that good man.

Whitaker even right now is a good win lol Even if he was on crack.

Tito had some of the best power in recent memory though. One punch KO power. Marquez has good power but nothing like Tito. But I'd definitely say Marquez was a lot more skilled as a fighter.

Well. The P4P ratings don't show that. The PPV numbers don't show that. Floyd getting a mega deal with Showtime doesn't show that. Floyd having fought people who EARNED the right to fight him doesn't show that.
