Manny Pacquiao Settles Defamation Suit With Golden Boy

LOS ANGELES - Manny Pacquiao has settled his defamation lawsuit against Richard Schaefer and Oscar de la Hoya on confidential terms. In connection with the dismissal, Mr. Schaefer and Mr. De la Hoya made the following statement:

“Richard Schaefer and Oscar de la Hoya, on behalf of themselves and Golden Boy Promotions, wish to make it crystal clear that we never intended to claim that Manny Pacquiao has used or is using any performance enhancing drugs, and further state that we do not have any evidence whatsoever of such use.

“Manny Pacquiao is one of the greatest fighters of all time, and we apologize if anyone construed our prior remarks as in any way claiming or even suggesting that Manny uses or has used performance enhancing drugs.”

confidential meaning they settled on the lawsuit...all pacquiao ever wanted was an apology and he got it. this would have nothing to do with peds other than golden boy admitting they had no grounds for the accusations

damn
great news about that lawsuit going away

Ortiz aint ready for Pacman tho........

also, AMIR KHAN vs ZAB SUPER JUDAH july 23rd @ mandalay bay...

who you got?
I think Khan should win a decision or knock him out late. But Judah has quick hands and good power still so he has a good punchers chance, khan's chin is still his weakness.

Marquez thinks Pacquiao waited til he had aged before fighting him again

Marquez thinks Pacquiao and his team waited until he had aged before fighting him again
May 31st, 2011

By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez has fought Manny Pacquiao to a virtual standstill in their two previous fights in 2004 and 2008. Many boxing fans believe that Marquez was the better fighter in both fights and won more rounds. Sadly, Marquez has little to show for his two fights with Pacquiao other than a 12 round draw in their first fight and a 12 round decision loss in the second fight.

Now they’ll be fighting again in November. The problem is that Marquez will be 38 by the time he enters the ring against Pacquiao, and he’s clearly not the same fighter he was three years ago when he last fought Pacquiao. There’s no getting around it, Marquez has aged and is nearing 40 now. Marquez thinks that they waited him out until he got older to fight.

Speaking with examiner.com, Marquez said “I think it is a strategy Pacquiao’s team has used. They waited four years to make this fight and the first was in 2004. It looks like they think/believe I have diminished.”

It’s too bad that Pacquiao didn’t fight Marquez immediately or soon after the 2nd fight because Marquez is now almost Shane Mosley’s age and not the fighter he was in his youth. This has to taint a win that Pacquiao might get over Marquez because when you fight a guy that’s 38 and beat him, it’s not the same thing as fighting a guy that is in his early 30s or late 20s. And then when you add in the fact that Marquez will be moving up in weight to fight Pacquiao at 144 pound catchweight instead of a catchweight nearer to Marquez’s 135 pound fighting weight, it doesn’t look good for Marquez. It’s almost like he’s in a no win situation here. Everything is going against him – age and weight.

Berto on twitter, "did they drug test Ortiz?"

@AndreBerto did they drug test ortiz? I've never seen him that strong before... Looked like vargas vs de la hoya. about 1 hour ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® in reply to AndreBerto

AndreBerto
Yo this is the main question I get from fans and boxing people. Did they drug test Ortiz? 1 minute ago via Echofon

AndreBerto
Let me clear the air now!! Your right there is a reason why Ortiz had so much energy, a reason he could take my heavy shots and keep ticking half a minute ago via Echofon

AnreBerto
N there is a reason why he came into the ring 165 pounds. I know people close to him and his camp and I know exactly we he was taking less than a minute ago via Echofon

AndreBerto
it wasn't Flintstone vitamins!! But it is what it is I should of beat him anyways but it wasn't me that night. Ortiz wasn't him either lol

Berto needs to shut the fuck up. You got beat because you gave away all the early rounds by laying on the ropes and doing nothing. Plus getting hurt in the 1st round didn't help either.

About drug testing:
I still don't understand why a so-called clean fighter would have a problem with random drug testing. I really don't understand why a fan would have a problem with random drug testing at all either. I mean come on let's be real these guys lose more blood in training camp then they would getting random blood testing. These guys are not hitting a baseball or running a race. These guys are beating the shit out of eachother for money. What's the problem with taking a test to prove that you're not on PED??

I don't think people do have a problem with testing, I think everyone pretty much agrees the more testing the better. The problem is when individuals try to dictate the terms of the testing by themselves, that's when things can and have got out of hand.

If the Nevada State Athletics commission implements more advanced testing, which they say they are going to, other states will follow.

Boxing doesn't have a central commission like the NFL or baseball, so it has to be implemented by the state.

That's all fine and good but if you're a clean fighter why should it be a problem with you taking random blood testing. I just don't understand why a clean fighter would be so worried about random testing.

it's simple really, one can feel the person making the demands is disrespecting them, and forcing them to do something that isn't normal, something that isn't required, etc. Take bernard hopkins and jean pascal for example. Pascal had no right to do that shit, the slander, and hopkins knew he didn't have to do anything other than what has already been required. two sides to everything.

it's one thing to ask someone to take tests, it's another to accuse. And so far all these guys asking have accused (floyd, pascal & and now berto).

If these guys are really that concerned, they need to go to the state athletic's commission and have a case heard. So far none of these guys have done that. Floyd said he wanted to clean up the sport, but he hasn't contacted one single person in making that possible, not one. So until those steps are made, they can't complain if guys aren't willing to bend over backwards to take some outside tests. Same goes for UFC, they follow under the same rules as boxing.
