hehe, it's true though. Every fighter who fights Oscar turns rich. He really is/was the golden boy.

Floyd mayweather = biggest payday against oscar
Bernard hopkins = biggest payday against oscar
Pacquiao = biggest payday against oscar
Vargas = biggest payday against oscar
Mosley = biggest payday against oscar
Trinidad = biggest payday against oscar
Mayorga = biggest payday against oscar

List goes on and on. Everyone turns into a star after fighting him too (if they won or did well).

Pavlik vs. Edouard on Pacquiao-Margarito undercard on 11/13?

By Chris Williams: In a nice little mismatch, former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KO’s) could be facing Daniel Edouard (23-3-2, 14 KO’s) on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout on November 13th at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. If you were looking for a reason to shell out $55 to see the Pacquiao-Margarito fight, this probably isn’t a good reason to want to purchase the fight because a fight between Pavlik and Edouard is a big mismatch. Since this card is hugely expensive, they’d have to pay me to watch this fight because I’m not interested in watching two mismatches on the card.

I think Pavlik is a good fighter, but he’s not a champion and I find it strange that he would be the co-main event of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight given that Pavlik was dominated in a 12 round decision loss in his last fight to Sergio Martinez in April. I’d at least like to see a fighter that’s actually winning and looking good coming into a PPV card that costs as much as the Pacquiao vs. Margarito card.

I’m not really interested in watching Pavlik, a non champion, take on Edouard, who was beaten in his last fight against Alfonzo Mosquera. So basically the co main event would have two fighters coming off of losses in their last fights. That’s not appealing. I don’t mind seeing Pavlik, but I certainly don’t want to pay to see him fight after the way he dominated by Martinez last time out, and I especially don’t want to see Pavlik fight Edouard.

That guy lost his fight, and was stopped by Eromosele Albert in 2007 and then stopped again by Jermain Taylor in 2004. Pretty much all of Edouard’s wins on his resume have come against 2nd tier opposition. I can’t find any wins over fighters I consider to be a 1st tier fighter on his record. Because of that, I have no interest in paying to see Pavlik-Edouard. They’re going to have to do better than this to get me to buy this card.

The main event between Pacquiao and Margarito is already a huge mismatch with one guy, Pacquiao, who has never fought at junior middleweight, and another guy, Margarito, who has fought only once at that weight in the past six years. They’re fighting for the vacant WBC light middleweight title, by the way. And if the Pavlik-Edouard fight ends up as the co main event, then we have two mismatches on the card. I’m cool with watching mismatches when it’s on free television like ESPN, but I don’t want to pay to see Pavlik add a fluff win to his resume. Goodness knows, Pavlik’s resume already has a lot of fluff wins on it already.

Watching him get spanked by 43-year-old Bernard Hopkins and now Sergio Martinez has turned me off towards watching Pavlik. If he wants to get me interested in paying to see his fights, then I want to see Pavlik fight Dmitriy Pirog, Gennady Golovkin or Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam. Other than those guys, I have no interest in watching Pavlik beat up on yet another B level fighter. Why should I pay to see Pavlik fight a guy that’s coming off of a loss and who has no wins over top tier opposition?

Maidana Requests Purse Bid, Expects Khan To Vacate Title

By Team Maidana

After the ridiculous demands of Amir Khan, everyone is frustrated. We have made efforts to reach and agreement, and are especially tired of all the lies that Khan himself and his team have told the media and boxing fans on Wednesday night [on Twitter, click here to read] Maidana Marcos asked the World Boxing Association (WBA) for the the immediate creation of a purse bid for the expected fight [on December 11].

“I'm tired of this Twitter star. He is a great coward and a liar. He said I asked for too much money, which is false. If that is really your problem, I challenge you to let us fight and the winner takes all the money. I do not think that the problem of Khan has to do with the money. The final absurdity is saying is that I am not his mandatory challenger. Lawyers are now looking for ways to prevent Khan from facing me, "said Maidana.

“I asked my staff to proceed with the request to the WBA for a purse bid. Once the purse bid is done, the fight will be done. Then we will see who is lying. And we will see, once and for all who wants to fight and who doesn't. Believe me, Khan will relinquish his title before he ever faces me," completed Maidana.

LMFAO..... Floyd hitting his baby momma couldn't have been worse than your favorite fighter serving prison time for beating his "PREGNANT WIFE"....

^^^Hmmmm what's worse? Punching or slapping your baby momma who has admitted under oath that she lied, gets high, drunk, and is jealous of other women or beating your "PREGNANT WIFE" to the point where you got sent to the pen and was in PC?
There's a huge difference between ME and YOU, you dumb sack of horseshit.

I didn't defend him. I didn't condone it. I didn't act like it was a ''cool'' thing for him to do.

You did.

Corrales was wrong and a fucking moron for doing it. So was Floyd.

You're just a worthless piece of shit with Floyd's dick so far up your ass his semen is getting shot into your brain and making you think like a moron.

END OF DISCUSSION.

LOL, what's wrong with this dude^^^^?

There's a huge difference between a "BABY MOMMA" and a "PREGNANT WIFE" too!

I don't see where I condoned Floyd hittin' his baby momma.... I remember being sarcastic in one post. But in his defense, this woman has provoked him before and lied to the cops. So get at me when Floyd gets sent to prison to serve time like your favorite fighter did.

Back to boxing....

Spadafora shot his girlfriend in the chest.
He's still cool in my book.

See if you're already a bitch (Floyd) and you do another bitch move (hit the mother of your kids), then you are just a bigger piece of shit and people will get on you about it.

If you're a cool person, and do something like Chico did. People tend to let it slide...

See, because Chico and Spadafora aren't cowards in real life. They are down to earth real people, who did the wrong thing. People make mistakes.

Floyd is a real coward who does cowardly things all day every day.

That's the difference.

Huh? Some dude shot his girlfriend in the chest and he's still cool in your book?

People didn't let Chico slide, he went to the pen. I don't call that letting it slide. Beating up a pregnant woman ain't cool. I bet you them dudes in the pen didn't let it slide either....

Let's see Floyd is a coward and Chico isn't but Chico got spanked by Floyd.

Why would I care if Spadafora shot his girlfriend in the chest? It doesn't deter me from being a fan. If he wants to shoot his lady in the chest, that's his gig.

People let Chico slide, meaning he still had a huge fan base when he got out and continued to fight.

Chico got whooped by Floyd. Pretty bad actually...

I see what your saying Rumpelstiltskin, I still love Edwin Valero (RIP) even though he was a psycho and murdered his wife before killing himself. Likewise with Carlos Monzón who also murdered his wife. Same goes for Ike Ibeabuchi after he beat and raped that stripper. lol some bad apples in boxing!

Schaefer makes offer to Khan and Maidana for December 11th bout

By Eric Thomas: According to the latest boxing news, Dan Rafael is reporting that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has made an offer to light welterweights Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana for their proposed December 11th fight. Khan, the WBA light welterweight champion, still hasn’t said whether he’ll be accepting the offer from Schaefer. And Maidana is asking for a purse bid for the fight from the WBA. Khan hasn’t decided yet whether he wants the fight to take place in the UK or the United States.

It would make more sense for the fight to take place in the U.S. if Khan wants to become a star there, but he’ll likely make more money in the UK. With the danger that Maidana brings in the ring with him due to his big power, Khan might want to try and get every last penny he can get for this fight just in case he gets’ knocked out again and his paydays start getting smaller after this fight.

Khan is facing his first real puncher since he was flattened in the 1st round by Breidis Prescott in 2008. Since that loss, Khan has been selectively matched and not had to face any fighters with power. Khan will be going from one of the weakest punchers in the division with Paulie Malignaggi, who Khan stopped in the 11th round in his last fight in May, to one of the hardest punchers in the division in 27-year-old Maidana.

This is going to be a huge jump for Khan to be taking, because he already failed once badly when he took on Prescott, and Maidana is even bigger and hits harder with every punch compared to Prescott. Maidana thinks that Khan is trying to get out from having to fight him. He thinks that Khan will vacate his WBA title if the World Boxing Association forces him to fight Maidana.

Hopkins says he’s going to make history against Pascal

By Dan Ambrose: Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KO’s) thinks he’s going to make history against WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KO’s) when they meet up in December. Hopkins, 45, thinks he can win yet another title before he one day retires. However, Hopkins is going to have to go back in the time machine and find some missing talent if he wants to get by Pascal, because he’s been looking pretty average recently in wins over Enrique Ornelas and Roy Jones Jr.

Even when Hopkins looked good in beating Kelly Pavlik in 2008, it would take a real stretch to see that version of Hopkins beating Pascal the way he’s fighting now. Pascal is just looking way too good for a fighter like Hopkins, especially now that he’s 45 and not looking good anymore.

In an interview by Greg Leon at Boxingtalk.com, Hopkins says “It’s another chance for me to prove to anybody that thinks this fight isn’t winnable by me to prove them wrong.”

I don’t think Hopkins is going to prove me wrong, not unless he fights better than he’s ever fought in his entire career because I don’t see Hopkins as ever having the kind of talent needed to beat Pascal the way he’s fighting now. Hopkins, with his punch and immediately grab technique, won’t beat Pascal. You got to bring more to the table instead of simple gimmicks to win fights against the top talents in boxing, and the old punch and grab technique isn’t enough to beat Pascal.

It might enough to beat Winky Wright and Antonio Tarver, but then again Hopkins probably could have beaten them without using that strategy. But employing a clinch and grab to try and slow down a speed and power demon like Pascal is like bringing a motor scooter to a car race. It’s not going to work and Hopkins is just going to look old and feeble in with Pascal.
Hopkins says he plans on jumping on Pascal from the very start of the fight and forcing him to work hard in every round. “I have to make him fade,” Hopkins says. I don’t know how Hopkins can do that when he’s unable to fight hard for the full duration of every round in his recent fights. Hopkins has been doing a lot of holding, falling down and other things seemingly to slow the action down.

How can Hopkins fight hard enough to make Pascal fade when he’s unable to fight hard for three minutes himself? I see the fight as being incredibly boring with Hopkins looking to hold any chance can get. I also see him dropping down on the canvas for phantom low blows in order to either buy some time to rest or to get the referee to take points off from Pascal. I see it as big spoil job from Hopkins and no way do I see him being able to beat Pascal.

Haye v Harrison can be a little Brit special

By Chris McHugh: Following the announcement that World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye was going to face Audley ‘A-Force’ Harrison at the MEN Arena, I must admit I was as disappointed as most boxing fans around the world.

But after the opening round of trash-talking, and seeing the genuine dislike these two former friends have for each other, I can’t help but get excited about this all-British affair.

I can understand people saying that Haye has gone for the easy option, avoiding the Klitschko brothers, and I can also understand when people say that Harrison is far from deserving of a world title shot, but the bottom line is this fight is great for British boxing.

There is still a genuine interest in Harrison around the UK, if not just to see somebody put an end to the “ joke that is the Audley Harrison show,” as Haye so elegantly put it, while we all know that ‘The Hayemaker’ is capable of pulling in the viewing figures and grabbing the media’s attention with his brash, out-spoken approach.

It is 17 years since the UK’s public and media had the chance to witness a British battle for the world heavyweight championship, when Lennox Lewis defeated Frank Bruno for the WBC title in Cardiff, and with the way Haye and Harrison have started trading verbal blows they are going to lap it up.

I do believe that the build up to the fight will be far more entertaining than the action inside the ring, as I can’t see ‘A-Force’ lasting for more than three rounds with the younger, faster and all-round better boxer Haye. However, the champion’s chin has been called into question before and if the 6ft 5in Harrison manages to connect with a left bomb we could be in for one hell of a shock.

The champion may take a little stick for even entertaining the idea of facing Harrison but why not treat us Brits and give the UK what it wants. If Haye is really realistic about challenging the Klitschkos he should comfortably dispose of the 2000 Olympic gold medalist and add another knockout to his record, which currently stands at 22 from 24 wins.

He can then set up the mega fight that the heavyweight division is crying out for against either of the Ukrainian siblings for next year and he will finally be able to show whether he really is as good as he claims.

But until then I’m going to enjoy the war of words as the Battle of Britain heats up and you can bet most of the pubs around the UK will be packed to the rafters on November 13, as we find out who can not only talk the talk but can also walk the walk.

Peter: “I hope he [Wladimir] comes to fight and not wrestle”

Dave Lahr: The last time Samuel Peter (34-3, 27 KO’s) fought Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s), the Ukrainian fighter was hugging him pretty much all night long at every chance he could get to prevent Peter from throwing his power house punches. It only partially worked, as Peter was still able to pry Wladimir off of him long enough to knock him down three times in the fight. This time, Peter is really hoping that Wladimir, now the IBF/WBO heavyweight champion, doesn’t choose to clinch and wrestle him all night long like last time.

Peter says “I hear and see what they’re trying to do. I just hope he [Klitschko] comes to fight and not wrestle.” I hope so too, but I’m not going to count on that happening. Wladimir is probably going to use his 12 round decision win over Peter last time as a blueprint in how to beat him this time. This means that you can expect Wladimir to be holding on to Peter at every opportunity to keep him from throwing any of his big punches.

The referee, if he’s doing his job correctly, will penalize and/or disqualify Wladimir for his choosing to hold excessively. This is boxing and not MMA. What Wladimir was doing in the first fight with Peter was one long stalling tactic to keep Peter from throwing punches. It wasn’t a fight; it was some kind of MMA hybrid bout in which Wladimir would land his own shots and then dive in and grab Peter to prevent him from answering back with his own.

Needless to say, the fight was more than ugly to watch. It was downright painful, because you knew that the referee should have done something to correct the situation with Wladimir clinching continuously, and yet the referee just stood there like a mannequin all night long without doing a thing. Peter was out there on his own and had to take matters into his own hands with a few rabbit shots every now and then get Wladimir to let go of him.

This time, Peter is going to hit Wladimir with everything but the kitchen sink to get him to stop hugging him and start fighting. I hope Wladimir likes getting pelted in close, because he’s going to be getting hit with some vicious shots from Peter every time he elects to hold instead of fighting

One World Champion in each division would save boxing tremendously

By Marquise Bullock: This is a serious topic that needs to be talked about from everyone. Boxing right now is all over the place. The sport has no order right now. But one champion in each weight class could change that in a blank of an eye. Think about it. In the NBA, they play for one trophy, in the NFL they play for one trophy, in the NHL they play for one trophy, why cant each boxing division fight for one belt. If there was only one belt in each division, you wouldn’t see so many champions obviously, but it would be way better.

Think about it. When the Chicago Bulls had their pair of three peat’s in the 90s they where the team to beat at the time. You’d had to stop them to claim to be a champion, there wasn’t multiple trophy’s that you can play for to avoid the Bulls. If there was, the NBA would be a little sloppy now wouldn’t it? The only other trophy besides the Finales trophy would be the Eastern-Western conference trophy’s. But that would be equivalent to the number one and number two ranked in the division. For example take the middleweight division. Danny Jacobs was fighting for a vacant WBO middleweight against Dmitry Pirog, and lost. But the real champion was Sergio Martinez at the time. Why not build up a good enough record, ad least something like 29-0 or 1 to fight for a title, instead of fighting for a paper title that means nothing so early in your career. Not to mention the 3% that sanctioning body takes from the fighters purse.

If there was only one belt in each division, you would see less vacates of the title, and some order in the division. Having a title means nothing if everyone in your weight class has one. A world title would be more significant if you bust your tale to get it. You would see boxers cry in the middle of the ring, knowing how hard they had to work to get one. With one title there could be long reigns of a champions and we could see shutouts, just like Jordan did to Ewing, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Payton, etc….. Also the world title fights would be more big on PPV. Imagine watching your favorite fighter rising threw the ranks, busting his tale for a title fight and he finally gets one. Weather he wins or loses it’s a great thing to see. And just like I’ve mentioned if a title is vacant, the two top fighters in that division could fight for it.

This would save the sport in a big way. Like when “Iron” Mike Tyson was the Heavyweight Champ, there was no middle man. It was fight him to for fill your dreams of becoming the heavyweight champ, or change your weight class. Because when Tyson had those belts unified in the 80s it was an complete shutout. Also with one heavyweight title the Klitckhos Brothers would be force into battle. That’s something I would love to see.
