Deonte Wilder vs Big Nipple set for July 16th.

It's a meh fight but Povetkin pissed dirty so it is what it is. Arreola is a recognizable name at the very least.

Danny Jacobs vs Sergio Mora II appears to be done for July 30th. Not a good fight for Jacobs imo and only furthers my belief he has no real intention of testing himself and proving he's the best of the division. Pointless rematch, pointless fight for a guy who's been very inactive lately. He could have enforced his WBA mandatory status on Golovkin if he wanted to, which he did not. maybe next year I suppose.

That sucks. WOuld've liked to see to undefeateds go head to head.

How Errol deals with a Thurman opponent could be an indicator of his skill level. At least Bundu is in the top 10 welters for some rankings.

Bob Arum acknowledges he and past rival Al Haymon have been talking

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum acknowledged that he and former rival Al Haymon have had a number of conversations since the two sides settled a $100 million federal anti-trust lawsuit last month. Arum was coy about what the two have discussed. But if anything, the ongoing dialogue is an encouraging sign for those eager to see some of the matches that can be made between them.

“We talked as recently as yesterday, and we’re going to talk again on Monday,” Arum told a small group of reporters on Thursday. “And eventually we’ll come up with some matches that we’ll make. There’s nothing that will prevent that from happening.”

While the two are on speaking terms, no specific fight has come up thus far, he said. “We settled the case,” Arum said before a press conference at Madison Square Garden for Vasyl Lomachenko’s title bout with Rocky Martinez Saturday on HBO. “There’s no impediment. We talk from time to time. So that means when there’s a match that could be made that’s an attractive match, we’ll make it. But right now we’re not talking about a specific match.”

Arum did reveal that Haymon is fond of at least one of his fighters. “Haymon knows enough about boxing – and he’s told me, he appreciates Lomachenko’s ability,” he said. Haymon has a number of fighters, such as featherweight titleholders Leo Santa Cruz and Garry Russell Jr. that would make sense for Lomachenko in the future.

However, the 84-year-old promoter said it was too soon to determine what if anything, may result from their new relationship. “It remains to be seen the kinds of fights that come out of it,” Arum said. But vague and elusive as he was on Thursday, Arum said he wouldn’t rule out the two working together for fights “this year, next year, whenever it makes sense,” he said.

The recent death of Muhammad Ali and the obligations that Arum has had to fulfill, such as attending Friday’s funeral in Louisville has pushed back any serious discussions so far, he said. Arum, who once promoted Ali, said it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he and Haymon are now speaking, despite their bumpy past. The two did come together to make Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s bout with Manny Pacquiao last May, but the negotiations for that fight were said to have been contentious.

“That’s why I’ve been in boxing as long as I can,” said Arum, who celebrated the 50th anniversary of his first promoted bout in March. “I compartmentalize everything. You have a dispute with a guy — it’s over, you settle and you move on. You got to be stupid to bear grudges. You have people in this business that spend their whole life tearing themselves up from grudges from something that happened 20 years ago.”

Arum was asked if he was still open to moving across the street and putting fights on Showtime, as he once suggested. Arum has supplied fights only to HBO in recent years while Showtime has been the home of Haymon. Arum declined to answer, but the question did prompt him to launch into a speech about the influence of the premium networks and why he thinks the power they wield should be diminished. “I don’t think that the networks should dictate where the fights should be,” Arum said. “I think the networks should just concentrate on putting on good fights.” He didn’t elaborate his point beyond that.

Ponomarev is an idiot turning it down. He has 2 real good wins already and is only 23. Win or lose this would've been great for him.

Spence is going to annihilate Bundu. Bundu doesn't hit hard enough, he's over 40, and he's small for the division. This is all kinds of bad for him.
Just read that Ponomarev hurt his hand in the fight against Solomon. Not sure how legit the hand injury is or if they just don't want to fight Spence, but I'll take that back if his hand is jacked up. Don't want to go into a fight against Spence not being at 100%.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 6/10:

- Who will GGG face in the fall? Not Canelo.
- GGG's next fight likely in the US.
- Has Provodnikov or Lomachenko ever backed down from a fight? No.
- Picks: Provodnikov in a war, Andrade by decision, Zlaticann by KO, Loma by toyage, and Verdejo by KO.
- Wilder should be facing Arreola next and there isn't anything wrong with that fight on short notice.
- Buy or Sell the Klitscho vs. Fury winner will face Wilder in the winter? Sell.
- When you win a vacant WBC belt you must face two mandatories in a row. So Jermell Charlo will likely face Hatley, then the winner of Andrade-Nelson.
- Cotto will fight in September at the earliest. Still hears JMM name, but no idea if it will happen or if JMM is coming back.
- Showtime Extreme fights are on at 7 pm tomorrow, despite the fact some cable companies are not listing it on their lineup.
- LSC vs. Frampton should be announced next week. The fight is made, but they are waiting to announce in respect for Ali.
- Jacobs will be fighting Mora on the undercard of LSC-Frampton.
- Still interested in Lomachenko vs. Salido 2? Sure.
- Scored Salido vs. Vargas a draw.
- Will believe the Haymon-Arum talks mean anything when we actually see them do fights together. Haymon doesn't comment to the media, so we are only getting Arum's side.
- One spot in the HOF to give: Cotto or JMM? JMM.
- Will Jermain Taylor fight again? Does not believe so.
- What is next for Broner? Must deal with his legal issues. If he is available in the fall, he could face Provodnikov (assuming he wins).
- Still nothing on Ward fighting July 30th and they are running out of time to get it done.
- Ward vs. Kovalev location? Likely Vegas.
- Will Robert Easter win the lightweight title? Yes.
- Wilder vs. Joshua? Not likely in the near future. Probably will marinate too long.
- Best boxing rivalry? Ali-Frazier.
- The boxing cards on ESPN so far have been very weak.
- Matthysse wants to fight again, but no news.
- Yes JCC is back with Roach. Roach can get him in shape and a plan, but can't do anything about his lack of heart.
- No interest in JCC vs. Love.
- Worst case scenario for the Canelo-GB lawsuit? A large 8 figure judgment. The lawsuit is about money, they aren't interested in promoting Canelo. Having this go to trial is shocking. Very surprising GB didn't settle years ago.
- ODH vs. Mosley 2? Scored it for ODH.
- Prime Paul Williams vs. Prime Kirkland? Williams, easily.
- Sickest KO's? Martinez vs. Williams, Pacquiao-Hatton, Hearns-Duran, Hopkins-Lipsey, RJJ-Hill, GGG-Macklin, Wilson-Nwodo, JMM-Pacquiao, Jackson-Graham, and Canelo-Khan.
- How does Tyson rate all time among HW's? Top 20 all time, not top 10. Definitely rates: Ali, Louis, Foreman, Holmes, Lewis, Klitschko x 2, Holyfield, Frazier, Marciano, Dempsey, and Johnson ahead of him.
- The only 2 options for greatest HW of all time he considers legit are Ali or Louis.
- PFP #1 all time? Most say SRR.
- What would have happened if Frazier went out for the 15th in the Thrilla in Manila? Both guys were on fumes and damaged, it may have gone to the cards.
- Barthelemy wants to move up in weight.
- Did Angelo save Ali with the glove trick after the KD vs. Cooper? Yes.
- Never got an explanation as to why ODH stopped jabbing vs. Mayweather. He was winning the fight until he stopped jabbing.
- Lubin is a tremendous prospect, but his card isn't worthy of primetime TV.
- Weights: Rocky Martinez 129.8, Vasyl Lomachenko 129.6, Felix Verdejo 134.8, Juan Jose Martinez 133.8.
- Leonard Ellerbe came to work with Floyd because he was a family friend who started setting up camps for Floyd and worked with his as a strength coach and then became a very trusted friend.
- Barrera was such a huge underdog vs. Hamed because he was seen as a slugger and hadn't evolved into the more skillful boxer later in his career.
- Verdejo needs to look good. It is a nobody opponent and he needs to pick it up.
- Doesn't have a problem with Fonfara's fight...just has a problem with it headlining network TV.
- Tapia a HOF'er? Inclined to say yes.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 6/17:

- Canelo's options are very open right now for the fall. GGG unlikely. Liam Smith and Lemieux could be very likely. Cotto a possibility, but Cotto vs. JMM may finally happen.
- Not sure if GB would foot the bill for Canelo's $8.5 million judgment. There will be an appeal and he has a decent chance in that.
- Leading candidate for Ward's tuneup is Erik Skoglund.
- Ward has wanted to fight in Vegas for quite some time (Kovalev vs. Ward will take place in Vegas).
- Fonfara vs. Kovalev would be a fun fight, but definitely not in the picture as Kovalev has his next two fights scheduled.
- Charlo brothers say they will not fight each other.
- Lamont Peterson still could potentially fight in August.
- Jose Ramirez is still very raw and needs to do more to be a top 10 LW.
- Crawford vs. Lomachenko in the next 2 years? Arum has mentioned it...but will only believe it when he sees it.
- How high in weight will Lomachenko go? He really isn't that big of a guy, he definitely could go to LW, but probably not that much higher...maybe 140.
- Gamboa vs. Lomachenko? Would be very interesting.
- Lomachenko is one of the best fighters in the world.
- Loma's KO was great, but he still has Wilder and Canelo's ranked ahead of it for KO of the year.
- Rematch negotiations between Lomachenko and Salido has not been started yet.
- The PBC cards on ESPN in July are horrible.
- Expects Charlo vs. J-Rock to be made before a purse bid, since both are with Haymon.
- Verdejo's performance was good and better than his past couple.
- The Fight Game special regarding Ali was the most insightful and compelling celebration of Ali and deserves a lot of credit.
- Lara vs. Andrade is very possible because both fighters will fight anyone and they are both with Haymon.
- No reason why Andrade couldn't beat anyone at 154 and give GGG a good run at 160.
- Andrade told him he is happy to be out of the WWSOB (Winky Wright School Of Boxing).
- Donaire's next fight will likely be in the Philippines vs. his mandatory Magdaleno.
- Ortiz vs. Ustinov will be in August or September.
- Warren vs. Payano is a good fight (he is looking forward to it more than the main event), but Fonfara has to be the main event because he is the draw in Chicago.
- Wouldn't be shocked if GGG fought at Dodger's stadium sometime.
- Quickest main event he was ringside for? Probably Tua vs. Moorer.
- Tyson vs. Tua in 1999? No idea who wins, but would love to see it.
- Jacobs is grumbling about how long it is taking to get a fight...heard a few PBC fighters feel the same way.
- Chances of Broner vs. Garcia? Certainly possible.
- Heard that tickets for Porter vs. Thurman are moving quite well. However, hype may be more subdued due to the delays.
- Is Thurman underestimating Porter? After talking to him, definitely not.
- Estrada vs. Nietes likely in September.
- Usyk is very good. An Olympic gold medalist, exciting style, and moved along quickly as a pro. Will be fighting Glowacki soon (no US TV yet, but hope it happens, great fight).
- Diego Corrales has not appeared on the HOF ballet yet, although he has been eligible for several years. Hoping he appears on the ballet next year.
- Loved the Freitas vs. Barrios fight.
- Rex Tso? He is okay, but nothing great.
- Lubin is a tremendous prospect.
- Hopes that Crawford vs. Postol does well on PPV because Arum didn't want to put it on PPV, HBO forced the issue by not paying for it on regular TV. This was the only way the fight would get made, so it being successful is good for the sport.
- Which Olympics boxing class was better: 1976 or 1984? He prefers 1984, but both great.
- What series was better: Morales-Barrera or Vazquez-Marquez? No right answer, but personally preferred Morales-Barrera.
- Did Lennox duck Vitali by retiring? No.
- What happens to PBC fighters if PBC goes bankrupt? Believes Haymond is still their advisor or manager and the vast majority are currently promotional free agents.
- The Turning Stone has become one of his favorite places to go see fights.
- Too hard to say if Arum and Haymon can make fights together or if Arum is just hoping they can. Haymon doesn't comment, so they can't confirm the other side to Arum's claims.
- The WBC has not given Wilder a new mandatory. Currently Povetkin is still the mandatory.
- Rosado's recent performance? Very shaky. The result could have gone either way.
- Does GGG KO Jacobs? Probably.
- Favoring LSC vs. Frampton.
- Benavidez is saying Crawford is avoiding him, any truth? Nonsense.
- Vitali for the HOF? Yes.
- Amir Monsour? Hearing he may face Oscar Rivas on the Wilder-Arreola undercard. Alabama is too easy to get a boxing license in (in regard's to Rivas). They didn't actually have a commission until a few years ago and it was formed to capitalize on Wilder.
- 2016 GGG vs. 2007 Abraham? GGG.

I wish you were this active when Ward wanted to fight GGG.
Was Golovkin ever champion at 168 pounds and was Ward ever mandatory to Golovkin? No? STFU then.

Plus we've been over this. 2013 Golovkin offered to fight Ward at 168 pounds since he couldn't get any big names. Ward rejected the fight stating GGG needs to build his name up. Then Ward goes into self inflicted exile from the sport. Fast forward to Golovkin signing a fight against Lemieux WITH the expectations of fighting his WBC mandatory immediately following. Roc Nation briefly inquired about a fight with K2, K2 said no, we already have Lemieux next and are expecting to fight Canelo after and Ward then immediately declares he's going to campaign at 175 pounds. Ward had a chance to fight Golovkin before Golovkin was in a position to unify and he turned it down. That's on Ward. Coulda, shoulda , woulda.
