Haymon willing to lay 10 million for Stevenson/Kovalev for September 26th in Quebec

http://www.journaldemontreal.com/201...ichel-cest-non

The rumored everywhere. Jean Bedard, president of Interbox, was an alliance with Main Events and HBO to inflate the supply clan Sergey Kovalev at the auction held in Mexico City on 17 April. And therefore force Al Haymon to add two or three million to an already copious envelope.

As we know, the WBC, World Boxing Concil, will provide the organization of the fight between Sergei Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson to the promoter that will ensure the best scholarships for both boxers.

Already Yvon Michel and Al Haymon stated that they were ready to lay by $ 10 million for the presentation of the fight on September 26 at the new Coliseum in Quebec.

HBO and Kathy Duva are now breaking the bank to counter the offer of PBC Al Haymon group. And it goes without saying that an association with Jean Bédard and Interbox could bring water to the mill as well have benefited from market Montreal and Quebec.
But as Jean Bédard and Yvon Michel are both Quebecers and they are already partners in the presentation and organization of some parties and several battles, many were uncomfortable discussing this possibility.

And how much was HBO willing to give Stevenson and Kovalev for the TWO fights they wanted them to have not to mention the other fights they wanted from Stevenson?
What the fight was worth. If Haymon wants to overpay like crazy that's awesome for Stevenson and Kovalev, but Haymon will lose money in this fight if he really does pay $10 million. Losing money on this fight obviously doesn't bother him as he has long term plans and goals. This is more about politics - he's going to bid so high because he doesn't want Main Evens and HBO getting this fight, so he's dishing out way more than what the fight is worth.

If you take Haymon out of the equation, and look at it from HBOs perspective when they could have made the fight, the ratings for that fight would be around 1.5 million viewers, maybe less looking at their individual ratings. You don't see $10 million purses for fights of that magnitude. Hell, Stevenson got $2 million for fighting some guy that averaged only 250,000 viewers! But that was Showtimes money and Espinoza was/still is overpaying like crazy.

I'm looking at the number right now. How much was it worth?

HBO dropped the ball. Stevenson never agreed to the purse and license amount HBO put out there. The man agreed to the percentages with Kovalevs camp, he agreed with everything they wanted and thr problem was HBO and their lack of transparency. If HBO and Main Event wanted the fight then Main Event would have pressured HBO for the fight. If HBO wanted the fight all they had to do was MATCH the offer Showtime came with. They didn't. End of story.

If you take Haymon out of the equation, and look at it from HBOs perspective when they could have made the fight, the ratings for that fight would be around 1.5 million viewers, maybe less looking at their individual ratings. Actually it would be more. Look at Steveson and Bellew. That did around 1.5 and then look at Kovalev and Sillakhmat 1.3. You really think the fight would be less than that considering what they were doing at the time? And I don't see Stevenson as being over paid. He is a champ, had the KO of the year, etc. He got the money he deserved and didn't agree to the RAPE HBO was eager to perform.

So you're in agreement with Rodriguz getting a million against Ward, when Rodriguz had no numbers, yet Kovalev and Stevenson both do numbers greater than that fight yet Kovalev makes LESS than Rodriguz? You approve of this type of shit?

When did I say Rodriguez deserved a million? He's another Haymon got that negotiated a high payday he didn't deserve. Still that obviously paled in comparison to a $10 million purses.

Stevenson vs Kovalev is one of the best fights in boxing, but it isn't that big of a fight. Neither are stars. Stevenson isn't even that popular in Canada, Bute and Pascal are still the most popular there. Stevenson doesn't have the same kind of fan base or following. It will sell well there, the gate will be good no question.

All you have to do is look at the ratings trends on HBO and Showtime to see what I'm talking about. Over the past few years, there's only been a few fighters able to hit 1.5m viewers or above. Cotto and Chavez Jr. You'd have to go all the way back to Hopkins vs Pascal in 2011 that hit 1.8m. It's been a decline since. Stevenson vs Bellew was 1.3 million (Kovalev on the card as well): Stevenson-Bellew fight attracted an average of 1.3 million viewers on the HBO network.

$2m isn't being overpaid for ratings that only drew 250,000 viewers? Lol of course that is the definition of being overpaid.

Look HBO has a budget they have to balance, they can really only afford to put up a few million or so for a purse, give or take of course, because on top of that there are licensing fees, the undercard purses, promotion, etc etc etc. Hell, I remember how much backlash they received for putting a lot of money into undefeated Bradley vs undefeated Alexander, and that really wasn't even that much of a purse in itself. That's why anything else is typically on PPV. And the problem here is Stevenson vs Kovalev isn't a PPV fight, because they aren't big enough. It would do poorly. But like I said, if Haymon has a way to pay them $10m like this rumor claims, fucking great, they deserve it.

Top Rank Expects Big Things With New TruTV Series
By Top Rank on 3/30/2015 .

truTV and Top Rank will partner to exclusively televise a live Friday night primetime boxing series beginning Friday, May 1, at 10 p.m. ET. The new boxing series, in association with Turner Sports and HBO Sports, will launch on the eve of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao pay-per-view fight with a card featuring two title bouts inside The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Maximizing visibility, the inaugural series on truTV will feature three consecutive weeks of boxing coverage in May – all airing on the evening prior to a Saturday night HBO fight event – along with a slate of five additional fights to be scheduled over the remainder of the year. The schedule will regularly feature some of the most exciting, established young talent in boxing. Turner Sports and HBO Sports, with its long and rich history with the sport of boxing, will contribute resources as well as marketing and digital platforms in support of the new series.

The main event on Friday, May 1, will showcase Takahiro Ao (27-3-1, 16 KOs) from Chiba, Japan, vs. Ray Beltran (29-7-1, 17 KOs) from Los Mochis, Mexico, in a 12-round bout for the vacant WBO Lightweight World Championship. The undercard will include two undefeated fighters in action – Mikael Zewski (26-0, 23 KOs) from Quebec, Canada, vs. Konstantin Ponomarev (27-0, 13 KOs) from Miass, Russia – in a 10-round bout for the NABF Welterweight Championship.

“We’re excited to partner with Top Rank and our colleagues at HBO Sports to bring this high-caliber boxing series to truTV,” said Lenny Daniels, president of Turner Sports. “We share a common vision to present these events in a new and inventive way and look forward to offering this compelling content to our viewers.”

“We see this as a great opportunity to bring more coveted live sports programming to the network and believe Friday night primetime fights will resonate with truTV’s young audience,” said Chris Linn, truTV president and head of programming.

“Partnering with Turner Sports and truTV for a new and unique boxing series will further invigorate and grow the sport,” said Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank. “Turner Sports’ innovative approach to production and programming has attracted and engaged tens of millions of fans of the NBA, MLB, NCAA and PGA and we believe the same will be true for boxing. Additionally, the collaboration between the HBO and truTV programming will help develop and expose current and future champions and world-rated contenders to a broad audience with consistency. All credit goes to Turner’s David Levy, Turner Sports’ Lenny Daniels and truTV’s Chris Linn who understand the impact of live sports and were instrumental in developing this concept into a program for their platforms.”

“Everybody at HBO is thrilled to see a new platform for live coverage of professional boxing being launched by a bold and creative network such as truTV,” said Ken Hershman, president of HBO Sports. “We congratulate Top Rank and Turner Sports on this new initiative. This channel battle between Haymon and everyone else is fantastic. That's a dope card on 05/01. Ao doesn't have the size to deal with a guy like Beltran, but he's been in some good fights - that 2 fight series with Larios that followed a good fight with Enoki.

Khan promises to fight Brook ‘within 12 months’

Amir Khan has pledged to agree a British super-fight with Kell Brook over the next twelve months as the demand from fans for the fight to be agreed reaches fever pitch.

On the back of Brook demolishing Jo Jo Dan in the first defence of his IBF welterweight title in Sheffield on Saturday night, all talk then switched to a clash with Khan who immediately ruled out a meeting on June 13 at Wembley Stadium.

Just a day later though, and probably due to massive interest worldwide, Khan took aim at Brook on his Snapchat account and stated that he 'would face Brook in the next 12 months in a winner takes all' battle.

Khan is aiming to return to action in May, and has been linked to facing Chris Algieri, Timothy Bradley or Keith Thurman, although time is fast running out for the devout Muslim to have his next outing confirmed in time to prepare for Ramadan in mid-June.

If the former Olympic silver medallist does secure a spring bout, and both he and Brook are overlooked for the winner of Mayweather v Pacquiao, it is possible that the two could be brought together for a huge encounter around November or December on home soil.

Brook may want to squeeze in a second defence of his belt in the meantime against an IBF-ranked opponent, potentially the winner of Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden on May 9, before a possible collision with Khan at the UK's national stadium.

That a boy Ward, now we're talking....

Andre Ward: I'd Go To The UK, Froch Pick Up The Phone!

Andre Ward says he wants to face Carl Froch again – and he is prepared to travel to the UK to make it happen.

The World Boxing Association has ordered a showdown between the two super-middleweight champions – Froch holds the regular title while Ward holds the Super World crown – but Ward had previously said he would not bend to Froch’s calls for a fight in Nottingham.

However Ward, who beat Froch on points in 2011, told Sky Sports News HQ that it was only the request to fight in Nottingham, specifically at the City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest FC, that he rejected.

The American said he was ready to travel to another part of the UK for a rematch, and Wembley Stadium is top of his location list.

“The UK is one thing, Nottingham is something different,” Ward said. “Now he’s saying ‘well, I came to America, now you need to come to Nottingham’.

“The thing is this: Atlantic City, where we fought the finals of the Super Six, it’s thousands of miles away from my home – that’s a road fight. I live on the west coast, the fight was on the east coast, which was a six-hour plane ride for me.

“I’m not willing to come to Nottingham, I don’t think I should have to, but Wembley stadium, the UK as a whole – I would love to come.”

Ward (27-0, 14 KOs) has only fought twice since inflicting a first career defeat on the Nottingham fighter in Atlantic City, when he secured a unanimous points decision for the 25th of his 27 career victories. His last outing came against Edwin Rodriguez in November 2013.

Froch (33-2, 24 KOs), meanwhile, had been linked with a fight with former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in September after last fighting and defeating countryman George Groves in May last year.

But while Ward is adamant Froch will not dictate terms of their fight, he acknowledges his English opponent is determined to set a date for the rematch.

“Carl – we’re waiting on you to pick up the phone and call,” Ward said.

“If you want to fight, and you want to avenge the loss or attempt to avenge the loss that you say you say you so desperately want to avenge, then you need to pick up the phone and we need to try to figure it out,.

“I’ve accepted his invitation to come to the UK but it’s going to be on the right terms.

“I don’t care what’s said through the press, I’m not just going to take anything, and it’s going to be mutual agreement if I’m in the UK.

“But I would love to give my UK fans, and even Carl’s friends, the opportunity to see me fight in the UK before my career is over.”

Froch doesn't believe him....

Froch: Andre Ward Not Coming To UK, It's All Hot Air!

By Edward Chaykovsky

Carl Froch is paying little to no attention to Andre Ward's claim of being willing to stage their rematch in the UK. Froch wanted the rematch to take place at City Ground in Nottingham - which Ward rejected. Ward says he is willing to face Froch in London but not in his hometown of Nottingham.

“The UK is one thing, Nottingham is something different,” Ward said to Sky Sports. “Now he’s saying ‘well, I came to America, now you need to come to Nottingham’. The thing is this: Atlantic City, where we fought the finals of the Super Six, it’s thousands of miles away from my home – that’s a road fight. I live on the west coast, the fight was on the east coast, which was a six-hour plane ride for me. I’m not willing to come to Nottingham, I don’t think I should have to, but Wembley stadium, the UK as a whole – I would love to come.”

The World Boxing Association recently ordered the two of them to fight each other. Froch holds the WBA's regular title at 168-pounds and Ward is the WBA's super champion at the weight. Ward won a twelve round unanimous decision over Froch in the 2011 Super Six tournament finals.

Froch also feels Ward is not capable of getting down to the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.

“Don’t get too excited, I don’t think he’s going to come,” Froch told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “I think he’s found out that I dictate everything where Andre Ward is concerned because he’s got no TV coverage and he’s got no interest at all. He’s not boxed for three years and I’m still world champion

“I don’t think he will come to England now. I don’t even think he can do super-middleweight. He won an Olympic gold medal at light-heavyweight, he always struggles to fight at super-middleweight and I don’t know if you have seen the size of him lately but he’s walking around at 200-pounds. It’s all hot air. It’s all smoke and mirrors. I’m trying to get the fight with Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. I have to see how I feel when I go back to the gym and start training – if my body can’t do what my mind wants it to do then I’ll hang up the gloves anyway.”

Broner a big boy he can fight at welterweight he could not even make 140 vs molina jr...just cause maidana beat his ass dont mean he aint no welterweight lol...broner vs khan make it happen! I think broner stops khan
I got Khan by decision. Khan is too fast and uses movement. Broner has shitty footwork and freezes anytime someone throws punches at him, he'll be stuck all night shaking his head no like he's not getting hurt while Khan is winning rounds. I don't think broner has the power to knock him out, Maidana couldn't knock out Khan. He could probably wobble him though.

I saw a short video in IG where Khan and Broner are face timing each other, video is super short broner just says let's make it happen and make that money.

Cotto-Heiland Deal Close, But Requires Canelo Too

By Miguel Rivera

A deal is apparently very close for a fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) and Argentina's Jorge Sebastian Heiland (25-4-2, 13KOs), who is rated number one under the WBC and coming off a November knockout victory over Matthew Macklin. The deal is easy to make because both fighters are advised by Gaby Penagaricano. Cotto's return is targeted for June 6th in New York City.

El Vocero reports that in order for HBO to pay a license fee for Cotto-Heiland, there has to be a preliminary agreement in place for Cotto to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the fall. Canelo is back on May 9th against James Kirkland. There were negotiations to face Cotto earlier this year but they couldn't reach an agreement on the financial terms.

A source told El Vocero - "It's a very doable fight because Gaby Peñagarícano is the advisor to Heiland. It's a fight that is almost certain. HBO is not interested in the fight because they view more like the fight Cotto had with Delvin Rodriguez. But they are willing to accept it if their conditions are met - that a fight with Canelo is signed. So they are going to try [to make that fight]."

I didn't say you said anything. I asked a question about one guy and his pay because his pay was higher but ratings were lower.

Stevenson vs Bellew was 1.3 million (Kovalev on the card as well): Stevenson-Bellew fight attracted an average of 1.3 million viewers on the HBO network.
The numbers I am looking at say 1.5 for Stevenson Bellew. However, that is neither here nor there. You have two champs, A side fighters, knock out of the year candidates, fighter of the year candidates, fight of the year candidates and I am talking 2013 and 14. Yes, they deserve the amount they are asking for and the money HBO was offering was rape.

$2m isn't being overpaid for ratings that only drew 250,000 viewers? Lol of course that is the definition of being overpaid.
Absolutely not. Blame SHO for not doing what it takes to see a ROI or the fact they have a smaller viewership overall. And considering everything I just listed, two million is a steal. And where is the 250k from? Stevenson and Fonfara was 672 and Sukhotsky 323.

Then they need to get out of boxing and let Haymon do his thing if they are going to rape.
