I keep telling you guys, Cotto vs Mayweather! What other options does Cotto have? And Showtime will not lose money now that Canelo vs Cotto is not happening. Mayweather can fight Khan now if he wants to, it doesn't matter no more. If Canelo fights Bradley, it can sell over 500k but not a mill. That can hurt Floyd and Showtime but I'm pretty sure Khan would fight for like $2 mill or so. All this A-side shit is fucking up boxing bigtime

"A sides" have been going on in boxing for years.

As many know, Sugar Ray Robinson made Oscar De La Hoya look like Mahatma Gandhi at the negotiating table. From the beginning of the negotiation process with Moore, Sugar Ray put himself in charge of the financial details, and attempted to dictate terms to Ageless Archie. Specifically, Robinson and Moore would each be guaranteed $500,000, and they would be fighting exclusively for Archie’s light heavyweight title. Archie realized he couldn’t melt down to 160 pounds, and didn’t see a problem with the bout being for his title only. However, he knew there was more behind the details with the proposed guarantee of $500,000.

Moore proved to be a better negotiating opponent than Robinson realized. Moore inquired about theater television incentives, and Ray quickly stated, “That’s included in the half million you get.”

Moore instantly replied, “I understand that. The price is right, Ray. But inasmuch as we can’t walk away with that half-million each, why don’t we work out a deal with those people where we could invest $250,000 of our purse in the theater television? This would set us up economically for life.”

Robinson was emphatic and unyielding. His reply was visceral and unequivocal. “They won’t do it!. They won’t do it!”

The negotiation ended there. Moore felt something was wrong, and detailed his thoughts in retrospect.

“Well, I was surprised that Ray could answer my question before he had even discussed it with his people. How did he know what they would or wouldn’t do? This was the first time it had been proposed to him, and he tells me flat-out that they wouldn’t go for it. Well, I didn’t like that, so I accepted an offer of $250,000 to fight a rematch with Durelle instead of waiting around on Robinson. This kind of made Ray mad, but if he would have at least talked to the theater-television people about this and given them my proposition, I would have gone for the deal even if they had refused. I just didn’t like the idea of his flat refusal to even approach them with my proposition. And so that is why I never fought Sugar Ray, and I’m sorry about that because I think that we could have made boxing history. I felt sure that I could have beaten him, and he probably felt the same way about me, and that’s the way he should have felt. If he had taken up my suggestion and the television people had gone for my idea, we both could have been rich men today. But anyway, I still like Sugar Ray Robinson. I think he’s a great guy and a great boxer.”

I hate the fact that fights aren't made for business reasons, but let's not pretend that this is new or pertains to only certain fighters. This has been happening as far back Jack Dempsey taking years off during his championship reign because his promoter only wanted him involved in "big fights".

That's why, for as retarded and lazy as Toney has been in his career, the dude flat out fought like no one at the top level has in decades. I get that dudes don't want to put wear and tear on their body, or they get tired of training, etc... but if you wipe a dude out in two rounds, you should be ready to go in 4 months. These dudes get to where they're making the most money they can make and only fight twice per year. Then some of them stay inactive over stupid business deals.

I was just thinking this right now, what if Cotto has GGG in mind? If money and the dat are an issue with Cotto, all he has to do is fight GGG! Cotto seems like he wants to retire soon anyways and what better way to cash out with GGG! GGG also sells out MSG so him and Cotto on June in NYC with no problems. Plus a cheap TR undercard with paying GGG around $1.5 mill with most ppv money going to Cotto and of course a catchweight of 158. I nailed it thank me guys later. Whe Cotto goes out it's on his terms not Canelo's and he still has HBO and TR staying loyal to Cotto and his promo company. Thank me guys later

GGG does not sell out MSG man. He sells out the theater which is like 3,000 seats at best. He's only had one fight in the main arena and I believe they sold around 10,000ish tickets. Capacity would be somewhere closer to the 17,000 range for that arena.

lol he's NOT thinking about fighting Golovkin!!! I can promise you that right now. Cotto would make a lot more money against Canelo and he would actually have a chance at winning, versus GGG it would be less money and permanent brain damage.

If anything Canelo could be thinking about GGG, but I doubt that too. We'll probably get some bullshit combination of Cotto vs Bradley and Canelo vs Maidana or possibly James Kirkland (they mentioned him as a "back-up plan" a couple weeks ago).

That's true, but obviously Cotto vs GGG would be a fucking smash hit at MSG. Golovkin sold out StubHub Center though. Wont happen though anyways. Cotto will never fight GGG, he'll lose his belt before or will vacate if/when the WBC enforces Golovkin's mandatory position on Miguel.

Only reason its a mismatch for Cotto is the size differential, if him and GGG were the same size Cotto would give GGG the fight of his life lol. I know you cant Cotto right now but thats the truth

I'm sure it would be a big fight there. Makes way more sense to have it at the Staples center though. Not enough big fights take place there. Interesting to me that GGG sold more seats at the Stub Hub than MSG, especially considering the capacity is normally only set up for about 7,000 or so at Stub Hub. There's usually extra room to add seats with that set up, but I guess they sold around 11,xxx at Stub Hub for GGG against Rubio who everyone pretty much agreed had no chance. I hope they have him on the west coast more often. I would guess there's way more Russian/former Soviet countrymen in NY, but apparently the Mexicans love GGG lol

Cotto vs GGG would be bigger than Canelo vs GGG, bottom line. This would be under Cotto's terms and for the 160 title. And I honestly believe Cotto has a legit chance of winning vs GGG! But whatevers, we'll see what happens.
