I think it's a "tune up" fight; basically he's had a few tough fights in a row: Taylor, Taylor, Miranda. They probably want him to sit on those belts for a minute before taking on a big star like possibly Winky Wright, Trinidad/Jones, Felix Strum, or Arthur Abraham. Can't really blame him, he's takin some big shots over the past few fights, but still, who the fuck is Gary Lockett??!?!
Junior featherweight Gary Stark Jr. (21-2, 8 KOs) avenged a KO loss to Andres Ledemsa (14-8-1, 9 KOs) by winning a tough ten round unanimous decision over on Wednesday night at the Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center in New York City. Stark overcame a grotesquely swollen right eye and closed the bout strong to compile a 96-94, 96-94, 97-93 win.

Earlier today we received word on the full undercard for the March 15 card in Las Vegas headlined by Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez in a rematch from their 2004 draw.
World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion Steven Luevano (34-1, 15 KOs), from La Puente, CA., will be making the second defense of his championship since winning it last July by knocking out the previously undefeated Nicky Cook, (27-0, 15 KOs), in the 11th round of their fight in London. Luevano successfully defended his title in October, winning a dominant unanimous decision over Antonio Davis (24-2, 12 KOs). On March 15, he will be making a mandatory title defense against No. 1 contender Terdsak Jandaeng (29-2, 19 KOs) from Thailand. Jandaeng enters the fight having won 11 of his last 12 bouts, with over half of those victories coming by way of knockout.

Alex Arthur was given a chilling warning yesterday by Joan Guzman, who defends his WBO super-featherweight title against the Scot in Edinburgh on April 26. Guzman, from the Dominican Republic, said: "I'm going to take Arthur's head off as payment to the British for spreading rumors that I am scared of fighting him."
"[Guzman] has been frustrated by all the talking and speculation as to whether he will show up for this fight in the United Kingdom," said Jose Nuñez, Guzman's manager. "Believe me when I say that there is not a fighter that Guzman fears. I know that Frank Warren and the British have to try to make their fighter look good for the British fans, but we plan to get there and take care of business. Arthur is standing in the way of big fights for my fighter, so Guzman has to eliminate Arthur quickly."

Which is a shame. I think he had pretty bad promoters up until recently. Just compare him to Soto, since Soto became Pro at the same time as Guzman. Soto has 50 fights, Guzman 28.
I'm sure he could do fine at 135 too, but probably better for him at the lower weight. I'd like to see him KO Edwin Valero, and fight either Marquez or Pacquiao. But that seems unlikely. Pacman will probably go off to bigger paydays like against Ricky Hatton, or de la hoya (wtf). Marquez maybe would give him a shot....but if not, he'll be forced to go to 135 and try and make his name there.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – Six members of the United States Olympic Boxing Team will vie for a berth in the 2008 Olympic Games, March 12-18 at the Jean Pierre Complex in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Lightweight Sadam Ali (Brooklyn, N.Y.); light welterweight Javier Molina (Commerce, Calif.); middleweight Shawn Estrada (E. Los Angeles, Calif.); light heavyweight Christopher Downs (Fort Carson, Colo.); heavyweight Deontay Wilder (Tuscaloosa, Ala.); and super heavyweight Michael Hunter (Las Vegas, Nev.) will all compete in the event, which is the second international Olympic qualifier.
The U.S. team will travel to Port of Spain on Saturday, March 8, with competition beginning on March 12. Molina and Downs will have to place in the top three finishers at the event to qualify with Ali, Estrada and Wilder all having to advance to the final round to earn a berth at the Olympics. Hunter is the lone boxer who will have to win gold to punch his ticket for Beijing. Both the draw and the first day of boxing will take place on March 12 with preliminary action running through March 15 and a rest day of March 16. Semifinal competition will be contested on March 17 and final round action will take place on March 18.
Nineteen countries from North, Central and South America are scheduled to compete in the first continental qualifier. Cuba will send a full 11-man squad to the event after choosing not to compete in the 2007 AIBA World Championships, the first international Olympic qualifier in October. In addition, teams from Ecuador, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina, Guyana, the Dominican Republic and the Virgin Islands will all send at least six boxers to the qualifying event. Delegations from Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Jamaica, Barbados, Peru and El Salvador have all confirmed their participation as well.
The six U.S. team members will look to join their five teammates, light flyweight Luis Yanez (Duncanville, Texas); flyweight Rau’shee Warren (Cincinnati, Ohio); bantamweight Gary Russell, Jr. (Capitol Heights, Md.); featherweight Raynell Willams (Cleveland, Ohio) and welterweight Demetrius Andrade (Providence, R.I.), who qualified for the Olympic Games at the 2007 World Championships in Chicago, Ill., in October.

Holyfield Will Be Ringside For Haye vs. Macca
Enzo Maccarinelli has vowed to unify the cruiserweight division on Saturday night in front of one of his boyhood hereos, Evander Holyfield.
The Real Deal will be ringside on Saturday night at the O2 Arena to witness the WBA/WBC/WBO world title match up between Maccarinelli and David Haye.
Holyfield, 45, is arguably the greatest ever cruiserweight, holding versions of the world title between 1986 and 1988.
All five of his world title wins ended inside the distance, and he unified the division in 1988 when he beat Carlos De Leon in Las Vegas.
And he went on to repeat the feat at heavyweight.
" Holyfield was an inspiration when I was younger, and knowing that he will be ringside ahead of the biggest fight of my career is a massive boost," said 27-year-old Maccarinelli.
" He unified the cruiserweight division, and I'm aiming to do the same on Saturday night. Haye is the man to beat and that's why I took this fight."
Holyfield, currently in the UK to promote his autobiography, said: "I've heard a lot about both of these young guys, and hearing how explosive they both are, I just had to be ringside."

In the headliner of the Star Boxing promoted card from the Manhattan Center in New York, "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis (18-2-2, 9KOs) swept all twelve rounds to win a unanimous decision over Harrison Cuello (15-6-2, 11KOs). The scores were 119-109 across the board.
The bout was Arnaoutis' first since losing a twelve-round decision to Kendall Holt last April. Cuello was coming off an upset three-round knockout of East Coast favorite Edgar Santana, which took place last June.
In a battle of light heavyweights, Curtis Stevens (18-2-1, 13KOs) came off the deck after being dropped in round-two, to stop journeyman Thomas Reid (35-22-1, 13KOs) with only seconds to go in the eight and final round. Stevens wins his first since a decision loss to Andre Dirrell last June.
Vinny Maddalone (29-4, 20KOs) walked through Jeff Yeoman (21-9, 8KOs) in two heavyweight rounds. Maddalone dropped Yeoman twice on route to securing the stoppage in the second-round. Maddalone wins his second since being stopped by Evander Holyfield in three-rounds last March.

Kretschmann Goes For Vacant Title on March 11
The "International German heavyweight championship" has been declared vacant after Russian giant Alexander Ustinov relinquished the title and quit his membership in the German boxing commission.
Therefore official challenger Steffen Kretschmann will get the chance to fight for the vacant title in front of his home crowd at the upcoming ARENA-show in Halle (Saale) on March 11th against Aleksejs Kosobokovs from Latvia.
"That's fantastic!" states Kretschmann. "I'm already fired up because I'm fighting in front of my family and all my fans. The chance to fight for my first belt is the icing on the cake."
Two more titles will be on the line at Halle's Maritim hotel. "Super" Sergej Sorokin from Russia and Kanat Kartenbaev fight for the vacant WBC super lightweight championship. And WBC international cruiserweight champion Herbie Hide will defend his belt against Rüdiger May.
